I love their exquisite, tasty, beautiful chocolates. Good prices for hand-made, premium chocolates, and a huge selection to choose from. They can be had in various places, but easiest and most pleasant was to pick them up in person and chat with the chocolatier. They come wrapped with a ribbon, just begging to be given as a gift. But don't forget to be kind to yourself as well.

In response to owner Nancy N.'s comment, here is her following message to me (5 months ago):"I just read your review of The Oakland Chocolate Company. You must have received a box that was provided as a holiday gift to some Oakland employees. We don't typically do gel dots to discern fillings - they were hard to see at the top of the acorn. Since we make each chocolate by hand, I had to say "ouch" to the reference to a Walgreen's box. I'd be happy to get you another sample of a wider variety of what we offer, if you'd be interested in the opportunity and an updated review."If you give your own employees bad chocolates then I'd resist trying your regular products.

I'm a huge chocolate fan and since I've been introduced to the Oakland Chocolate Company, I've been chocolate satiated. I've mostly focused on the chocolate bars, but also recently started trying the truffles. Everything I've had has been unbelievably rich and delicious. Some of my favorite bars are the cocoa nibs with salt and with Jamaican almonds. Almost all of the bars are vegan too! Also, the truffles are just beautiful! I think given the quality of chocolates the prices for everything are really reasonable, too. I love that the business model supports sustainable development and workers rights/living wages. And since I'm Oakland proud, I'm happy to share this Oakland-rooted business w/ friends/fam.I buy the chocolates at the downtown Oakland Farmers Market on Fridays. I'm joining the box of the month club for this next year--I have enough birthdays, get-togethers, friends who love chocolates that the box of the month makes sense. Also, the customer service has been very responsive and flexible. I highly recommend you check the chocolates out!

While on a recent business trip to Oakland, I stumbled upon The Oakland Chocolate Company farmer's market booth and bought two bars of chocolate: "One Love" pineapple bar and a Chipotle Lime bar. The lady selling them was very nice and I was happy to support a small business owner. However, my family and I tried both of the chocolate bars this evening and all but my husband, who likes everything except haggis, couldn't spit the chocolate out fast enough. While initially rather benign, the pineapple bar left a nasty aftertaste and the chipotle lime was worse. The packaging on the back said "best before Sept 14 2015." Maybe it was just a bad batch of chocolate but, since it was my first time trying it, I am sad to say that it will also be my last.

I bought a box of the Barley Malt Domes because they were made with barley malt extract. I'm a huge beer buff and when I heard of these I had to get my hands on them. They were delicious. I wish I could have eaten the whole box right then and there, but the chocolate was so rich that after two I don't think my body would have allowed myself to eat another. After a few weeks I finished the box and wish I had more.High quality, super nice lady, and great prices for the quality of chocolate ($2 per barley malt chocolate, well worth it).

We happened on this vendor at the Old Oakland Farmers' Market Friday and of course I had to try some of their wares. I bought three pieces. They are all 70% Jamaican origin chocolate w/ a variety of additions. Yesterday I tried the first piece, which was walnut, maple and something else I don't remember. The dominant flavors were the chocolate and the walnuts, which added a nice crunch. I thought it was good. They had two types of turtles. The one w/ pecans was described as sweeter than the one w/ walnuts, cashews and salt, so I opted for the latter. I tried that today and it was heavenly. It was made in a mold, so you could see an actual turtle shape, unlike the turtles of my youth, which were more abstract and generally sweeter. And it was dark chocolate. The legs and the head were cashews. I bit them off one by one. I smile just thinking about that turtle. I think it was one of the best ever. The third piece was a bar w/ mint. I haven't tasted it yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

Looked for something local, sustainable, healthy, and hand made for a gift, this ticked all of boxes. Called and spoke to the owner directly who made hand dipped dried fruit and delivered them personally on the same day. Very impressed, lovely gift idea!

A friend ordered chocolates to be delivered to me after my father passed away. The Oak Choc Co went above and beyond - calling me the day of the delivery to make sure I'd be home and hand delivering them to my home. I received a variety of chocolates - hand-dipped dried fruit and crystalized ginger (the latter are my favorites). The chocolate is amazing - dark and delicious -- and you can really sense the love - because they are all hand made. Getting these as a gift really made my day.

Omg, what exquisite chocolates! I purchased on a whim just because I had a sweet tooth when walking past this booth at the Friday morning Old Town Farmers Market, best happy accident this year! I purchased the dark chocolate-covered caramels (the ginger and the coffee infused variety), and I cannot wait to go back and get more. These are officially going to be included in my list of "favorite things about Oakland". Delicious!
