Review for @_theedengardens_ in San Jose:- Price point: $$ ($30-$50pp)- Cuisine: indian (Bengali)- Ambience: walls beautifully decorated with nostalgic Bengali arts in black and white, a little loud in the weekend evenings, afternoon ambience is great!- Food review:1. Chicken Dum Biryani- 8/10 (average)2. Luchi and goat kosha 9/10 (really good!)3. Korai shutir kochuri (pea-stuffing) 7/10 (very little stuffing)4. Fish fry - 10/10 (our favorite!!)5. Tandoori chicken - 7/10 (little dry) We are happy to have an Indian restaurant in bayarea catering to Bengalis. Prices for some of the items seemed a tad high. The ambience was great. We loved the decor.WE WILL BE BACK TO TRY THE OTHER ITEMS!Recommend for: authentic bengali cuisine

If you want to explore different type of Indian food this is your place to try. There are very few East of India cuisine places in the Bay Area (3 in total). They also have regular Indian fare. We got Luchi (fried bread), Goat kasha, Sorshe Rui (fish cooked in mustard gravy), Rice and chai, lime soda. Drinks were really good. Strong hot tea. Lime soda was perfect.Luchi was soft, crispy on the outside, hot. A must try. Mangsho kasha- It was good goat curry but definitely not kasha! Kasha mangsho has deep brown onion gravy.. So even though it wasn't kasha the goat was soft, tasty. Sorshe Rui- good quality and quantity of fish. Perfectly done (paatla jhol) thin gravy with green chillies on top. Service was good. So here are my recommendations if you want to diversify your Indian food exploration. You won't find these in most other places (total of 3 exist in the Bay Area with one being more bangladeshi food). Lots of following dishes are vegetarian/vegan (v) friendly-Appetizers- veg chop(v), enchor-er-chop (v), fish chop, chicken chop jhal muri (v). All rolls- egg, double egg, egg chicken.Phool makhana sabji, begun basanti, shukto, aloo potol, ghughni, aloo posto all of these are vegetarian friendly. Rohu kalia, sorse rui, shrimp malai curry.Accompaniments -Misti pulao, luchi, peas kochuri. All desserts. You will thank me later. Will be back to try all these dishes one by one.

I ordered takeout from this place late at night as I was craving samosas, and I'm so glad I did! After browsing the menu, I decided to also try the butter paneer with naan and rice, along with two chais. The chais were tasty but a little too milky for my preference. The samosas, however, were fantastic--crispy, flavorful, and perfectly bite-sized. They came in a portion of three, and I especially loved their mini size. My only wish was for a bit more chutney, as they only provided one small container of mint chutney. The butter paneer was delicious, though a little sweeter than I expected. I would have liked a bit more spice to balance the sweetness, but the portion size was generous and satisfying. The naan and rice paired well with the curry, rounding out the meal nicely.Overall, I really enjoyed my order and am excited to explore more dishes from their menu next time.

The food was delicious. The service was a little slow but definitely worth the wait. The ambiance was decent too. The food could have been a little more spicy even though we ordered the max spicy level, it wasn't as spicy as we expected.

The 5 stars is for their willingness to innovate on their menu. Adventuresome menu selections this visit included a bitter melon gourd mixed with something herbish which I don't know what it was, but tasted somewhat like burdock. They also still had their mustard fish, and I think lotus.Last Friday night there was so much cooking going on that there was steam coming out of the kitchen area and the windows were fogging up. That's gotta be a good sign, if they're cooking for a lot more eaters than just us.

I ordered goat biryani and peas kochuri. It was a big disappointment. The website for this restaurant talks about traditional Bengali cuisine with innovative twist. The vegetable curry that came with the kochuri was devoid of any grain of salt whatsoever. The biryani was far from being a Bengali biryani that you would relish in Kolkata. I am not sure what is the basis of their claim of the food being traditional. I am not ordering food from this place ever again.

This place is SO GOOD!Finally good vegetarian Bengali food in the Bay Area.. the owner is amazing.. she came over to our table, chatted with us in Bengali, and offered to make us some off-menu Bengali delicacies that we had been craving.. most of the "Indian Food" in the US is actually North Indian.. South Indian has also becoming more common these days (stuff like Dosa) .. but Bengali food is sadly rare. Bengali food tries out a lot of really interesting flavor combinations and ingredients that you don't see anywhere else. Bengali food has been influenced by the Mughals, the Portuguese, the British, the Chinese, and various groups from other parts of India.. it's fun! This place was authentic and delicious.Decent ambiance.. I wish they moved shop to San Francisco so I could eat here more regularly..

I ordered takeout for the first time 2 days ago and was very disappointed. The dahi puri came with just puri, chutneys, and plain yogurt - I've never received chaat like that before. I don't know who they imagined was going to enjoy that. I also got the pan fried chili paneer and rice combo, and it arrived absolutely chock-full of oil. I mean probably half the container was just grease. If I had been in the restaurant I would have sent it back. I had a little bit (mostly just the rice) but started feeling sick within minutes, and threw it out. It was inedible. The only reason it's not one star is because as far as I could tell, nothing had actually gone bad. But I would never eat here again.

I did a takeout from this place. The mustard dish was excellent. It hit all the right notes. And it was reasonably priced. One of the few places serving good eastern Indian cuisine. I also had the Hakka noodles. It was ok. But I would go again for Indian regional food.

I would give me experience 3.5 so I'm rounding up to 4 because it's a new restaurant and I hope they continue to improve! I was very excited to see another Bengali restaurant pop up in the bay, there are so few here so we went right away! The ambience is very pretty. It's a large restaurant, and clean :) The phuchka had very less water, so much that I had i eat the last two without water and was very mildly spiced (I think they can go up on the masalas a little bit!)Next was the veg chop- it didn't hit the mark, was just okay. And for 9.99$ it felt like it was a little overpriced. We ordered the luchi with Alu and peas kochuri on the side to taste. The peas kochuri came out first and the sly and luchi came about about 6-7 mins later by the time the plain peas kochuri got cold. The luchi is also atta-r luchi. The alu tasted nice and home cooked. But the portion was quite small and we requested some more and they were very kind and gave us some more. Overall it was a little bit underwhelming but I'm hoping it's because they are new and just finding their groove. Will be back to try one more time!
