Taqueria La Estrella

Background: I grew up on the Texas-Mexico border and have really high standards for Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine. I only eat takeout/delivery from this restaurant, but do so regularly.The shredded chicken tacos are some of my favorite tacos in the area. There have been some disappointing changes recently (more below...), but even with changes this place is super legit. The only disappointing thing I've ever had at La Estrella is the Chori-Queso. It's truly terrible and way too expensive, and I highly recommend skipping it.The shredded chicken (pollo guisado) is flavorful, chunky, and perfectly complimented by the generous onion and cilantro -- both of which are in a true fine chop, making it easier to eat them in the taco. The refried beans are also some of the best around.I am disappointed, though, that the tacos went from normal corn size to tiny street size, making them pretty expensive for what they are. The chicken is less saucy now too, thus less authentic. This shifts the shredded chicken tacos from epic down to excellent. Still, Taqueria La Estrella is awesome.

Not too big, which some might not understand as a complaint, but the ratio was excellent. I gobbled it up. Normally not a big fan of pico de gallo in a burrito as it's too watery, and I still would prefer a salsa roja, but it was still quite good. Would eat again soon.

Horrible service. Didn't pack soda in delivery order and only option was to either go and pick up soda or order again and receive two sodas on second order, Didn't even offer complimentary salsa like any other taqueria.

Service seemed better than I expected. Ambiance was ok. I appreciated the super super duper clean bathroom. The food -- eh -- I hit a veggie burrito and I've definitely had much better. But it wasn't bad. Missing enough beans and other fillings, but the grilled veggies were done right. The burrito wasn't excessively salty which is far too common. I felt like the ingredients were fresh and healthy and it tasted okay. My friend got a chicken salad dish. I sampled it and it tasted good. It looked healthy and fresh. -- The disappointments were the drinks. Horrible totally embarrassing aguas frescas. The wurst I ever had in my life! Totally like they dropped several Cool Aid packets in water in my cup and threw some weird looking fake fruit on top. HORRIBLE and embarrassing that any taqueria would serve this junk drink. Also the chips and salsas were poor quality. My friend and I were served about ten (10) chips spread out across a large basket. We looked at each other and wondered if they were running low on chips and needed to serve us a tiny quantity to save some for the rest of the night. It was laughable what they brought to our table. The salsas were very watered down and flavorless. Nearly the worst I ever had. Not even worth eating. The funniest part was as we were mid-meal, the server brought us three more filled little salsa plastic containers with more salsa. But we didn't have any chips for all that salsa. And it was bad salsa and we clearly weren't eating what salsa they initially gave us. We thought they were trying to get rid of it for some reason. It certainly would never spoil because it's not fresh -- just from a big bucket of I don't know what they make this stuff from. Maybe they wanted to appear generous giving us the cheap watery green and red stuff that I don't even know why I called it salsa above. It's definitely not that. Anyways, I digress. I would definitely come back if there were no more taquerias left on the planet.

My bro brought me a few burritos and steak fries from here before since he comes here so often(his gf works nearby) and I didnt think much of it. Not in a bad way but decent food that was consistent and not lacking in any departments..Today I was hanging with my bro and we happened to come grab food here. Finally I can put a face to the place. Firstly parking can be difficult as it's on 23rd street which is a main street in Richmond, and it's a 1 way street here. We lucked out today and walked inside, pretty clean and well decorated. Authentic Mexican as it gets from the food to the workers and even down to the patrons. After seeing the menu I decided to really test their skill by getting their sopes and a taco. Not everybody makes sopes the right way. I personally prefer light, soft and fluffy sope base but many places have the dry, crispy dark sopes base. This business actually has it somewhere in between but more so crunchy yet I didnt have a bite that I didn't agree with. The al pastor taco wasn't something I'd mention in my top 5 but it still holds its own amongst competitors. Pricing was adequate, maybe even cheap compared to some places. I only saw 1 worker who took our order and brought it out in a realistic wait time duration so as far as customer service I can only judge by him, which was A1. Glad they survived this far in the pandemic era and hope to have them around for a long time. Definitely in my rotation as I'll try more less conventional items on the menu.

Great food and service. Highly recommend. I got the super burrito with carnitas. Seasoning was great. Chips and salsa were great.

A hit the spot review. Post-race burrito is what I was craving. Went for value here so wasn't sure how it would turn out...turns out, it was pretty good especially for the price. Went with the super burrito which was resonantly sized and rated decent. For the price I'd try it again. Eat well and maybe cheap -ant

*they sent my meal the next day with no apology or explanation It wasn't my cheat day anymore so I couldn't enjoy it but I, thankful they at least fulfilled the order the foods great , just upset from the whole incident as a whole

Bad service. Didnt pack our drink in the delivery order and was told only option was to pick up soda or order again to receive two sodas.No point in having any add on options to orders if you guys cant read any add ons like a soda.

I found this place by accident based on Yelp reviews. What a great surprise. I ordered tacos and they were absolutely delicious. Having grown in Southern California I am very picky about Mexican food and I was really impressed. The seasoning, the presentation, thoughtful cooking. Highly recommended!
