Tango With Mirabai

Mirabai is an excellent teacher and all should consider taking her classes or better yet, private instructions. She has several attributes that make her stand out:1. Skill - Mirabai is a master of several different styles in tango from classical to performance so, whatever your interest she has the skill set and the ability to communicate to you. She also practices what she preaches and is always striving to improve her own skills. From her recent trip to Buenos Aires where she went to milongas and competed in championships, to her leadership/choreography in the USA Tango Championships, she is always learning and developing new skills. She is also excellent with musicality which is a focus of mine.2. Communications - There are many ways in which people learn and Mirabai has a knack for finding out what learning methodology is best for you. Some people like an explanation of what the body is doing for dance, some just like to do it and learn kinesthetically. Mirabai is a great teacher and finds a way of communicating so that you 'get it'.3. Passion - I don't know how she does it, but the woman's energy is boundless. She is always enthusiastic, positive and present. She listens to you and provides you what you are asking for. In summary, she has phenomenal skills, an excellent ability to teach and a passion that makes you feel good about your learning and progress.

I decided to take up Tango for many reasons. One reason was to push myself out of my comfort zone. I wanted to feel confident and decisive as a leader, and as a new beginner stumbling through group classes, I was not. I decided to try private lessons to help me bridge this gap and build my confidence as a leader. And, I am so glad that I picked Mirabai as my teacher.I chose Mirabai because I was impressed by her background and accomplishments. After working with her, I've become a loyal student because of her teaching style.Like others, I always find her to be upbeat and positive. Her teaching style is very warm and encouraging. She is really astute at identifying areas where I need more coaching. I find that her approach is very focused on refining technique without the pressure of a perfectionist. Her teaching is the right balance of patience, persistence, and a gentle push to get you out of your comfort zone so you can keep growing.Mirabai is not only accomplished as an artist. She is talented at teaching her art as well. It is rare to find someone talented in both areas. She has helped me push past my anxiety of getting outside my comfort zone. Each lesson I find myself relaxing and enjoying myself more, embracing the subtle movement, touch, and passion that is Tango. I highly recommend Mirabai!

I have had very little experience with dancing of any kind. When I wanted to surprise my wife with a Valentine's Day gift of Tango lessons, a friend recommended that I contact Mirabai. This was good advice. Mirabai is an excellent teacher. My being a complete beginner was no problem, we have been having fun from the start and can see a lot of improvement. Mirabai is very adapt at teaching how to lead. When she leads you just end up doing all the right steps even if you don't know what the right steps are. The effect is sort of magical. It is inspiring to try to emulate it. We have continued the lessons for several months, we really enjoy it.

My dance partner and I worked with Mirabai for 10 sessions to develop a routine for a Dancing with the Stars charity event. We were both nervous and inexperienced with this type of performance, but her enthusiasm and good cheer made all the difference. We chose a challenging song to choreograph, with several seemingly similar passages, but Mirabai always found what was distinct in each one, and created choreography to show that off. We think our routine was one of the best of the evening. But perhaps more importantly, Mirabai knew how to tailor the moves she gave us to fit with our gifts and capabilities. Working with Mirabai was transformative -- and fun!

We absolutely LOVE Mirabai!! We had so much fun during private lessons!! My husband and I met in a tango class in Ann Arbor. After we moved to San Jose and decided to get married, Tango dance is a must for our wedding. We thought about doing Tango private lessons for the first dance just two weeks before the wedding. It was really last minute. My husband took Tango group class from several instructors while he was interning in the south bay last year. Mirabai is the first and the only instructor he would like to have private lessons with. We contacted her directly and scheduled the first lesson that night. (Thank you Mirabai for making us fit into your tight schedule!)I'd only took Tango group classes for 3 months (my husband took 6 months) a year ago. We never had private lessons. At first, I was so stressed about all the wedding and our last-minute tango and doubted if we and Mirabai could do it. After working with Mirabai for a lesson or two, I felt more confident. My husband picked two songs and was really ambitious to have Mirabai choreograph the whole thing. 2 songs was impossible but we did like 1 and 3/5 songs throughout our 10-hour session. Without Mirabai's help, we couldn't do this... (Still, we spent a lot of time practicing after class in order to catch up.) All the guests loved the dance!Mirabai is creative (talented, no doubt), effective, and easy to work with. She carries positive energy and always passes out her passion about dancing. She has good ears and would pop with brilliant ideas and choreography that works really well with the music. Of course, if it's too hard for us, she will change it into easier steps right away. Lots of times, she will offer us with multiple choices for us to choose the one that we like. She is really flexible. She also pointed out the things we need to work on and patiently repeated them even she had told me many time already, like postures and putting feet together. She would explain in details and tell how to picture myself while I do some difficult things and those helped a lot. She explains things to me in a really plain way ( I am not a native speaker). We enjoyed her class a lot and strongly recommend her for wedding choreography!!!

Can't agree more with all the reviews that Mirabai has already received. From a female student's point view, she also added elegance, sensitivity and poise in her phenomenal teaching skills. Yes, it is very frustrating in realizing that I will never be able to dance like her, but it is also amazing that she could always find her way to help me boost my confidence. I think finding a great teacher to establish a solid foundation is so essential for every dancer, I'm truly blessed to have found Mirabai!
