i was honestly a bit scared to try this place after seeing several poor reviews, but it was actually pretty good!I got the build your own sushi burrito, and it was so yummy. i got it with shrimp tempura and crab salad, and the portion size was huge! it is a bjt soggy at the ends from the sauce, but i love how they let you include so many sauces and toppings.i ordered takeout, but the store does have a bit of seating in the back, and the employees are very helpful! it's honestly kind of an interesting location on shattuck and more of a grab and go kind of place.

I was here on Saturday evening to pick up a poke bowl on the way home. Small restaurant, very friendly staff. Unfortunately, the woman making my poke bowl could not understand english and kept asking f I wanted ingredients other than the ones I'd already listed out. One of which I was allergic to. Also, she wore fresh gloves to make my bowl but then kept holding up my receipt to read it, then touching the food. I'm not a fan of carcinogenic receipts touching my food. They need to prop up the receipt somewhere before they start making the bowl, and not fiddle with it with their clean gloves.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed my favorite sushi burrito place in the Bay Area yet! I always get the Gunki (salmon and imitation crab sushi burrito). Trust me when I say, order off their menu instead of building your own burrito. One time I built my own while thinking, "surely I know my taste in food better than they do," and I have been wrong. They know which ingredients complement each other and how to proportion it right.I have tried numerous other sushi burrito places in the Bay Area and in NYC and Sushi Secrets beats them all. Plus, their prices and portions are very agreeable! I've ordered the Gunki to go many a time and it is packaged so well that I have never made a mess, or even had concerns about making a mess, while carrying my food in a purse or in hand to eat elsewhere. There is a small dining area past the ordering counter and there is usually available seating if you'd prefer to dine in. However, this place is counter service only so you'll have to get your own water and bus your own table. If I still lived nearby I would order from here every week with no regrets. I dream that one day the owner(s) will expand beyond Berkeley so that I can continue binging on their delicious burritos.

Better than Sushiritto for suuuure. One of the better sushi burrito spots, if a little pricy. My build-your-own was around $17 total (though, I did include avocado and masago).Located on Shattuck, a block off from the Downtown Berkeley BART station. They offer rolls, poke bowls, sushi burritos, and other cooked items. Interior doesn't really have a theme, other than fish art on the wall with ukiyo-e prints, a few wood elements here and there.SUSHI BURRITO: So fresh! I love that they don't slather the fillings with too much sauce like other places tend to do. I added both poke sauce and wasabi mayo-- they were able to balance both well while not obscuring the fresh fish flavor. The veg fresh & crisp, and the rice was seasoned right (and thankfully cold!).The rolls might seem small, but they're more filling than it seems. Definitely worth a try.

Found this place by accident! The place is small but comforting and very clean. The staff is nice. Street parking only, however conveniently right next to Berkeley downtown BART station. They serve sushi burrito and bento box as well as some variety sushi roles. Many to choose from. I had the sushi burrito No.7 Berkeley Charito. It was very delicious! I would definitely be back here again soon!

Sushi Secrets is the best poke in Berkeley because it explores the full taste/texture landscape. Poke is a game of tastes and textures. With 5 basic tastes and maybe 5 big textures, there is a 25-taste-texture ingredient-space to exist in. Two bites means 25*25 = 625 mouth-possibilities. Sushi Secrets is where you go to optimize actualization of mouth-possibilities for the dollar. Within this taste-texture space, there exists a theoretical equilibrium of mush, but the point is to dance around it. Their ingredients are extremely fresh. If there was a 0-1 value for freshness, their pineapple was a 1.1, it literally broke my preconceived notions of what pineapple could be. Almost candy-like, and cut into perfect chunks for a burst of refreshing-sweet, usually after umami. It is fun to go umami-heavy. At other places, your proteins are all mushy, but here it can be crunchy too. Having fried stuff gives you a way bigger subset of the 625 outcome space. The crisp-umami/creamy-sour combo is good. Try it out... there's multiple ways to reach that. You can tell that they think about how the ingredients work together as they make the bowl, so that it forms in perfect ratio. They don't skimp -- I've never gotten that rice-only feeling with them. This poke is at the pinnacle of what poke can be. Also the sushi is good. The world needs to experience this place. It is one of the greatest human experiences. If I was CEO of the world I would get it catered for lunch every day. If I was AGI I would mobilize Sushi-Secrets factories across the world so that everyone could experience this. If I was a simulated consciousness I would calibrate myself on this.

I got food poisoning from a poke bowl here 26 hours ago. I have only been that sick once before when I was in Thailand. What a nightmare. I used to like this place a lot but now I will never be returning. Be warned!

I really did not enjoy my visit here. One pleasant thing was the service: the owner accidentally gave us the wrong item, and immediately remade it for us without question. However, I ended up throwing most of my food away. I ordered the salmon sushirito, and it was stuffed with wasabi. The sheer quantity of it was revolting, and I could eat almost none of it without feeling my sinuses burn and having my eyes well up. They mention wasabi on the menu, but I was completely unprepared for the experience. Reader be warned. Aside from the surprise attack, the quality of the salmon was unremarkable. It felt gummy and lacked the fatty taste that good salmon usually has. It was roughly on par with the salmon roll from the Safeway down the street.
