Sushi Matsu

This was probably my most visited restaurant in 2024. We loveeee this place, both for dining in and togo.My favorites are their baked rolls. I especially like the Honeybee ! The quality of their fish is great, so the chirashi / sashimi are also worth trying.It's a smaller restaurant, but we've never had issues getting a table, even with a larger party. The service is also good. The staff are attentive and we've never had any issues. Highly recommend!

The service seems to be getting worse and worse. Dont get me wrong the food is good for the most part. I recently came in with my mother for dinner on monday night, she ordered a bento which came with a miso soup. I oftenly order togo/delivery here and this time the miso soup came out white kinda like a mirky mikly color, whereas its usually has a more tan color. The taste was very much off and it came out cold. We politely asked the waiter to reheat the soup. She insisted on giving us a new one which was nice of her but I told her she could just microwave it since we already made a slight dent in the soup. She came back with the miso soup filled to the brim, the color was even more transparent than before. She had filled the bowl up with hot water..On another note the quality of the raw fish were good thats why I'm still giving them 2 stars but the bento portion does seem to be smaller now.We most likely wont be coming back for a while.

Overall, the food and service is pretty good. The inside is pretty small, so I would not recommend big parties. One down side to this place is the street parking, and its on a very busy street. But overall, I would definitely be coming back here.

I had my order delivered and the food was good! Hamachi, sake, escolar Sashimi was fresh and textured was good! We had a few rolls too and the rice was made a lot better than other places! It's cold tonight so I ordered Nabeyaki Udon! Now I've ordered this here before and it was loadedWith all the toppings and very generous with their broth! Today it was very watery and skimpy on the toppings. To the owners: Consistency is very important to me as with most people. I don't like giving out poor reviews so please... let the new employees know how important this is!

Cute El Cerrito sushi spot with nice decor, fresh fish, an extensive menu, friendly and attentive staff, and edamame on the house. Ordered the Raider Roll and Ikura with ponzu sauce on the side and it came out quickly and was fresh.

My wife and I had sushi last night. It was amazing. The delivery was quick. The presentation of the sushi in the dish was very nice. I wish they had a little more Ginger, but all in all very much enjoyable!

Sushi Matsu is one of my favorite spots in El Cerrito or Berkeley! I had gotten take out here before, and had been wanting to come back to try this place as the inside of the restaurant looked really cute and inviting.We came on a Saturday night and were greeted very promptly and told to pick anywhere we want. The restaurant had a few people dining in but was not packed for dinner time on a weekend. It also looked like there was a separate more private space for larger parties or otherwise. We ordered the green salad (which is portioned for one person), edamame, miso soup, and two rolls. The green salad was fresh and crunchy, the other appetizers were good as well. The miso soup had mushrooms in it which was really tasty. The list of rolls that they offer is extensive. The have many fresh, fried, and baked options. We went with one fresh roll (the dragon roll) and one baked (the lion king). I am very picky when it comes to sushi and I was more than satisfied with both. They both tasted fresh and not fishy or undercooked. So delicious! The service was very friendly as well and our waiter came back routinely to check on us. As I mentioned, the interior is soooo cute. Very cozy and lots of fun decor and art. Not only this, but on Saturdays a live guitarist plays who is absolutely wonderful! Great ambiance, we will definitely be coming back!!!

This is a nice small and cozy sushi restaurant. The server was nice and took care of us with our drinks very quickly. The food came out fairly quickly. The miso soup was extremely salty that it was bitter, not sure if our bowl didn't get mixed well but it was not good at all. Most of the rolls were kind of mediocre and were very sauced up in my opinion. My favorite roll that was pretty good was the baked lion king roll. The salmon skin salad was delicious as well, it came with a lot of crispy salmon skin so every bite had plenty of flavor and crunch, but again it felt very sauced up. I didn't really enjoy the seaweed salad, it didn't taste fresh so I only had a few bites.

This place is simply the best!!! Every single dish we ordered was a top treat . Lion King roll, cherry blossom roll , golden gate roll , yellow tail hamachi sashimi and, hands down, Greenie roll !!!! Service was amazing Very quick and pleasant Ambiance is very simple but lovely.Treat yourself with some great sushi.
