Have been coming here for more than a decade probably. This place hits the spot especially if you're craving comfort HK cafe food. The beef stew is okay I definitely would recommend the curry beef stew more. The green beans are good! It's ~$15 for an entire lunch set which includes soup + salad + a (basic) drink of your choice. They also sell milk / fruit tea and different types of smoothies but that would be an extra cost. There is also this special: $48 for 3 entrees of your choice from a list. It's pretty worthwhile. Enough food for 2 people though maybe not enough for 3-4. Doesn't come with rice so you have to order those as well for +$2 each. There is some paid street parking, you can also park in the parking garage closer to the Chinatown public library.

Came here during lunchtime on a weekday and this place was already pretty full. My friend recommended this place and finally I got to try a few dishes here. The STAR of the lunch was the Curry Beef Brisket with rice. I highly recommend this-- flavorful, delicious curry with plenty of pieces of brisket. They add green bell pepper to the curry. I could eat a few bowls of rice with the curry. The curry was savory and a tiny bit of sweetness. It's delicious. The popular baked pork chop with rice was good but not amazing. It wasn't my favorite. The pork chop was cut thin and clearly not that fresh. The texture of the meat was a bit dry and lacked the texture of a fresh piece of chop. We also ordered the pork chop in black pepper sauce with pasta. The flavor was ok, and same problem with the pork chop. The type of pasta wasn't the Italian ones just wanted to point out--it was less starchy and more like soft noodle. There was no texture and I could basically slurp it down without chewing. The lunch combo comes with salad, soup and a choice of drink. I would definitely come back for their other dishes. They have an extensive menu.

We always get to go when we are in Oakland Chinatown! We love their baked pork chop rice. Different restaurants have their own sauce recipe and shooting star sauce is the one I love the most!!Their milk tea is very good too. Strong tea and perfect sweetness. We have tried their egg puffs and they are very crispy and tasty as well!!

My friends and I have been coming here for the last few years for lunch. The food and service is solid. They have lots of food options for everybody. Great place to go if you have a big group. My personal favorite is the baked pork chop!

I ordered delivery via Instacart to get a $20 discount. The roast duck roll was lovely! Subtle and fresh flavors. Not oily, Wrapped in a pillowy and buttery flatbread. The crepe was huge and arrived soft, crispy, and not too sweet. I'd have preferred the peaches (canned) to have been cut smaller but at least they weren't mushy. The BLT wasn't great, though... not enough bacon, too much mayo, and a bit bready and bland. Don't know if I'll order again due to the price point but it was decent! 3.5 stars.

Got a couple lunch plate combos with rice (for dinner), short rib with black pepper sauce, and prawn with scrambled eggs. Nothing special about these dishes, but they were good enough, the short rib could have used a little more spice, and the prawn and egg plate could have used a little less rice (not gonna complain about too much rice though). Also ordered the roasted duck roll, but it never came to the table, neither did staff for a long period of time. Well, actually the dish eventually came, right around the same time we got the check (cuz we had an event to catch), but does that really count?!? I'm pretty sure they forgot to put the order in for this item, we finally got it after notifying two different staff members who weren't apologetic at all. The dish wasn't even worth the wait, the ingredients drenched in hoisin sauce, so sweet I could barely taste the duck. The wrap was also too chewy. Besides having a large menu and a clean and casual setting, I was not impressed with this place. It isn't horrible, but my recent experience here just left a bad taste in my mouth.

Cool late night spot. The Boba drink was good. I think it was brown sugar. Was recommended by the server. Food was delicious but was too hungry to take pictures. My B

One of our hangout spots with good friends late in the evening . Wait time today was longer than expected. It seems like everyone is here on a Saturday night for dinner. Service during this visit was mediocre not attentive , understandably, busy night for all the staff . Our group's favorite dish were pork ribs, bitter melon with black bean sauce cooked in clay pot. We could order another plate of their crispy tofu with black pepper & jalapeno. Follow by stirfry ong choy with fermented tofu . who would've thought fermented tofu goes so well together with the leafy vegetables. Hainan chicken dipping sauce were so delicious except I didn't like that. The chicken was refrigerator cold, I know that's how it was supposed to serve . Our two least favorite dishes were the shrimp vermicelli clay pot & the roasted duck noodle soup. MM mom NBCOf course we finish off with waffle balls with fresh fruits, light airy, a little fluff, and the Asian says not too sweet. It's a good thing.

Very clean and high class Hong Kong style food that is open late. Wildly popular and for good reason. I've got a friend from Hong Kong that brought me to many of the Hong Kong style restaurants around. I guess he was a bit homesick and would seek out these places for some comfort. The interior dining room is very comfortable. I love the set up of the dining. room being closed off from the main entry hall where people wait. Chairs are comfortable and not overly institutional. Shooting star theme a big plus. Love a place with a little character. Many people go here after some drunken night in downtown and with so few late options they stumble in here. I'm not gonna say thats what I do - don't want anything self incriminating here on the yelpusphere. Right now there is a steal of a deal with milk tea celebrating their anniversary. Now that is something to be thankful for. Such a huge variety of drinks and they advertise outside. Probably good for grab and go. Authentic and friendly. They get so busy late at night yet they can still get food out in a timely fashion. Popular even with the OPD - and more healthy than donuts. A must try if you in downtown Oakland.

Afternoon tea menu is from 3-6pm. Every item in that menu is 9.95 which includes a hot drink, cold drink needs additional $1.5. It is very affordable in the current economy. Now is having the anniversary sale, if your order is greater than $10, you can add $2 to get a wonton soup with 6 wontons, very good deal! The wonton is not authentic but it is not bad. I ordered the Satay Beef noodle, not very good, my friend ordered the deep fried chicken leg with fries, pretty good, will definitely come back and try different items in the menu.
