Seoul Gomtang is located at the corner of 38th and Telegraph and has a private parking lot with security parked in the lot. The place is a no frills restaurant specializing in hot, hot, hot noodle soups. The noodle soups are great for a cold day or night. We had:- Kkorigomtang - mixed meat noodle soup- wanggalbitang - short rib noodle soupThe soups are naturally simple with sea salt, black pepper on the table and vinegar chili pepper condiment if you want some additional taste or tanginess for your soup, noodles and meats.Overall, a good place to go for simple, non-oily meat noodle soups. Very efficient and polite service.

While passing by, the building looked like it would be some kind of fast food place but I saw the soup pictures and had to try. They have their own parking lot with security. There were TVs that's switched camera views. The restaurant itself looked "authentic" inside. Not modern but typical mom and pops. Good, service in a timely manner, and pleasant staff. We got the galbitang, the oxtail soup, and the steamed dumplings. They gave a lot of meat and all were tender. Soups were tasty. Good, fresh, and tasty banchan. I like the availability of these type of steamed dumplings, but they were just ok. I think overall everything was good and would return.

Delicious, homey, and comforting meal! A true hidden gem. We visited while my boyfriend and I were both sick and dying but this brought us back to good health - everything was so yummy! Even the haemulpajeon was really good, it's hard to find one that has that satisfying crunch and lives up to my dad's homemade one. We ordered the wanggalbitang and gamjatang! Both meats were so tender and fell off the bone, very quality. If you feel like crap and need something to cure you INSTANTLY, this is the best thing you can do for your body (source: trust me bro). Service was attentive and great too. We will be coming back!

Came here for lunch after school and it wasn't busy yet. I ordered the SEOKKEOGOMTANG (섞어곰탕) which consisted of a beef broth and cooked mixed beef. Although the dish was good there was a lot of it that I couldn't eat. There were mixed beef parts that I didn't feel comfortable eating due to lack of familiarity. This included tripe and other parts. I should have ordered the CHADOLBAEGIGOMTANG (차돌백이곰탕) which consisted of beef broth and thoroughly cooked beef brisket. I also noticed that the soup itself needed salt, so I used the salt that was provided on the table. I ordered the Jin Mandu as well but I wasn't a fan. As I was eating the restaurant slowly filled up with other customers. There was one waitress doing everything yet she was able to manage all the tables which was good. Overall, the restaurant was spacious, there is a parking lot and it was nice that there were TV's playing Korean TV shows.

I am kind of easy going ^^^.I gave them 5 stars. The food was well prepared by Ricardo, who should be given an extra credit based on the reason that he cooked almost perfect Korean food as a Latino ( nothing against Latino, rather I really enjoy and love them). It came out better than some other Korean restaurants. My daughter and grandkid had chadorbaeki gomtang and I had a hae-jang-cook , a bean paste based soup with lots of vege and meat. The soup was clear, the vege was so tender and easy to chew, that was so well prepared that is why I have a full credit to Ricardo. Rum mamma Mia^^^!

I had a hankering for soup, so I decided to come here. There were just 1-2 other parties here at around 7 pm on a Thursday. After I ordered, they gave me a bowl of rice and three banchan dishes, all of which were kimchi based. Sometimes I can eat kimchi-flavored banchan, but these were a bit too spicy for me (I generally can't handle that much spice). That being said, I did end up eating most of the cucumber one after I had my main course. I ordered the Wanggalbitang, and when it came it was very hot. I love bone broth and would definitely recommend this one. It was flavorful (right at that cusp before becoming too salty) and felt very comforting, so this would be perfect for a cold day. The meat was so tender it fell off the bone, and the noodles also had great texture. I couldn't finish the whole dish (which is pretty common for me), so I packed the remaining half as leftovers in my own glass container. The server was attentive, and I was glad they used reusables for dine-in. I will happily come again whenever I crave a good bone broth.ECO NOTES (Dine-In)Dine-In Dishware: Reusable plates and bowlsNapkins: Single-use disposable paper napkinUtensils: Reusable metal spoon and chopsticks in a wooden holder at the table Water cups: Reusable short plastic cup

This place specializes in soup, but their beef bulgogi is not bad at all. The mul naengmyeon is refreshing, on the spicier side (good), but the cucumbers are sliced thinly as opposed to julienned. I prefer the latter, but this is fine. The samgyetang is cooked to a point such that the chicken shreds easily. The rice is subtly sweet, though I wonder what a sort of sticky rice might do texture-wise. The jujubes were either on the blander side or had all of their sweetness cooked into the soup.I'd come back for the chadolbaegigomtang. Add healthy scoops of the table sea salt, though; this helps the (very) beefy broth reach its full potential.

I came here with my partner's family for a special event. We wanted a simple lunch, and were craving some soup. This place was near the top of our search bar, and I'm so grateful we came here. This is actual the most "hidden gem" restaurant I have ever been to in Oakland/Berkeley area! The outside of the restaurant is not the most pretty---the area is prone to crime, but we trusted the processed. We came inside and I was surprised to see security cameras with a direct view of our car so we can keep an eye out while we are dining in! At this time, only one waiter was working, so it took a bit of time for us to be seated. However, once we got our order, the food came out very quickly! And the portions were HUGE. Like I expected SO MUCH LESS for the price, so I was very excited to try. I had the cold noodles with bulgogi (Mul Naengmyeon Combo), and enjoyed it a lot. The noodles and broth were very refreshing, and the bulgogi was flavorful. We also got Dakdoritang, which was spicy but had a lot of chicken inside, and the Gamjatang, also a little spicy but had delicious pork short ribs. Our overall favorite, however, was the Wanggalbitang! The broth was refreshing and flavorful. The short ribs paired well with the mushrooms and egg---I would definitely go for the Wanggalbitang for a cold day.Although service was slow this day, we completely understood as only one person was handling all the tables. So much so, that we went again the next day with my family! This time, service was significantly quicker (we came right when it opened), and I had the Kkorigomtang which was so warming and creamy! I absolutely love this place and would go again many, many more times!

Another solid Korean restaurant serving comforting gomtang! The restaurant itself has a very homey feel, and service is quick and friendly. For food, we ordered the Chadolbaegigomtang and the Wanggalbitang. The Chadolbaegigomtang comes with a hefty portion of thinly sliced lean beef brisket, noodles, green onion, and an unsalted broth. The meat was a little tough, but it's the perfect thing to order when you want something light but satisfying. The Wanggalbitang had fall off the bone short rib meat that was so tender! Both soups come with a side of rice, and of course their specialty banchan. Their banchan is a hit or miss. We really liked the cucumbers and kimchi, but the radishes weren't as crunchy as we would've liked. Apparently to-go containers are an extra 50 cents? When you're done with your meal, you go up to the register to pay. Come here for the soups, and this meal definitely won't disappoint!

Cozy and quiet. Hidden gem for sure. We had the kimchi spam bibimbap and it hit the spot! The rice was crispy from the clay pot which is the best part. Also had the beef brisket broth and it was creamy and smooth. The brisket was so soft and the banchan was a generous serving. Will definitely come back!
