This was a very good museum to find in Downtown San Leandro!!I came in here while I was at the San Leandro Cherry Festival, and it was free to enter. This museum tells the history of San Leandro, with murals, exhibits, and photographs!!There's also an exhibit about redlining and housing discrimination in the city and the effects it has had on people!A small, but very informative museum!!!

I love still finding hidden gems in my hometown 18 years later and the community theater at the Museum/Auditorium right next door to the Casa Peralta is my latest find. Two years ago, I wrote a blog post comparing movie theater to live theater - http://aroundthebayandaway.blogspot.com/2016/05/live-theater-vs-movie-theater.html discovering that live theater especially community theaters can be a much better value than going to the movies. With my introduction to the SL Player's performance of Agatha Christie's Mousetrap, I cannot wait to return to see what mystery they have in store for us next season.Since this is a community theater with a limited budget, chairs are just stackable chairs put out for the performance but once you are immersed in the storyline unfolding before you, you won't even care.

Came here last night to watch the murder/mystery play, Death By Design. The show was funny, shocking and well produced. The auditorium was staged accordingly. The play takes place in Cookem, England in the 1920's. The actors dressed very stylishly. Their British/Irish accents and acting ability were done beautifully. Go treat yourself to a wonderful evening in a wonderful place in Downtown San Leandro. The tickets weren't expensive. It was under $20 per person. Go soon before the show ends.

The building is very nice inside and the architect is amazing. The lighting and sound was also spectacular. The only issue was when my husband went to use the man bathroom and he said some of the stall wouldn't lock correctly.

Open on Wednesday and Thursday from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM and the first Saturday of each month, 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM, San Leandro History Museum & Art Gallery is fairly small but I was pleasantly surprised by how much content, historical photos and artifacts were squeezed into 8 major exhibits. Free of charge, this is a place you should check out if you want to learn more about San Leandro and the surrounding neighborhoods. The museum is conveniently located in the center of downtown and right near the San Leandro BART station.

My daughter and I recently visited as part of the SL Library's Summer Reading Program (free!!!) movie series. We arrived 15 minutes early so the staff asked us to enjoy the museum. I was impressed. I've lived in San Leandro for over a decade now and appreciated learning so much more about its history. There were lots of artifacts and photos detailing the various eras in SL History. The staff was nice enough to host the movie in their auditorium.

San Leandro Players did an excellent job with Agatha Christie's play "And Then There Was None". This murder-mystery has you guessing until the very end who the murderer could be. Go and see this excellent play before it is gone!

The San Leandro History Museum is a little, local gem. I accompanied my child's field trip there and will return soon with my entire family. I don't have many details because I was assigned to a group of children, but we spent some time viewing the excellent visual exhibits and little time with the museum staff as they engaged the children in a few activities. The museum is an impressive source for local history and details and I can't wait to visit again. The exhibits are extremely detailed and have multi-media elements, including scan-able QR codes that lead you directly to related YouTube videos. We learned specifically about the history and culture of local famlies Haas (sp), Best, Peralta and Durant, as well as the Ohlone. The only disappointment at the museum was the temperament of one of the staff members. She had very little patience with the third graders who were mostly very well behaved. Her comments to them ranged from overreacting to downright nasty. She seems to be a poor fit for the job. If you can avoid her, do so. 2-Hour free street parking is available. Allow 1 - 3 hours, depending on your interest. Also, plan to visit the historical Peralta House, next door. I've been told the Peralta House hours are very limited, however. Rocky's, the hamburger place on the corner, is tasty food with delicious milkshakes.
