This place is consistently awesome for ethnic products--- the inventory and the vibe of the bodega even boasts fresh fruit and a butcher counter in the back. For me, it's always snack age central-- has been for over a decade!!Love it

Discovered Richmond Food Center on Ubereats and ordered some basic groceries from them for delivery. The milk I ordered wasn't available but I called and they gladly replaced it with another one, and were really nice about it. However, there were no Ubereats drivers in the area who were willing to pick up my order for delivery, and I received a call from Uber saying that the restaurant was willing to deliver my order pesonally themselves. I didn't really need the order and it was getting late, so I told them to cancel for now and I'll try again tomorrow, but I was just completely floored by their willingness to go above and beyond for an app delivery order when we all know that Uber takes a huge cut out of their revenue!! I was hoping they'd have a twitter account so I could message them to thank them, but I couldn't find one so I'll probably call again once they've reopened. I thought the next best thing would be to publicly thank them here on Yelp which I hope will help their business as well when other people see this. Thank you, nice people at Richmond Food Center, you rock!! I'm also thankful for Uber for introducing me to this nice market in their promos section and for calling me to let me know.

We stumbled across this gem while looking for gumbo filet inside of Safeway from a lovely beautiful amazing lady. As she walks through the aisle, she looks at me and asks what are y'all looking for? I replied in a heartbroken tone... "gumbo filet" she laughs, looks at me with this "ohh you know about gumbo look" (being that I'm Asian) and responds "you're not going to find that around here honey, but I do know a spot where you can find anything southern or soul you want to cook" she says go to down to cutting and look to the left you won't miss it. So as we rushed out of Safeway we took the drive just about 5 min down and seen this magical place called Richmond Food Center. Being from the hood of Sacramento this just felt like home from the moment we stepped on to the parking lot. The laughter, the taco truck out front smelling good as heck. As we approach the entrance we already knew at this moment this is the store to go to. The owner/cashier looks up at us and sees we are in need of something. We both yell out "gumbo filet!" The whole store looks up and he points to the first aisle. Low and behold the gold you need for your gumbo! Lol. Everyone else in the store looked up because they're all making Gumbo also. We had great conversations in their and walked out happy. The food selection 10/10 service 10/10 and the ambiance is 10/10

After all the great reviews I thought I'd give it a try. Won't be returning. If I had to describe this well stocked local supermarket in one does it would be - sketchy. They issue No receipts and if you ask for one they act like you're robbing them when in fact it's probably the other way around. At checkout the guy at the counter had things rung up before I even put my items down. When I asked what the charges were for, he cleared them out. Still didn't get a receipt even though I asked for one. The meat counter in the back is just as bad. Guy told me that the frozen catfish was $8.49 lb like all the other fish but when I pointed out the other fish wasn't frozen he said "we charge $10.49 for fresh." I asked if he meant "defrosted" and was met with a start and a curt "so do you want it?" Hell no I don't want it. Won't be back.

I'll begin by echoing the only other review from the past... 5ish years and say don't judge a book by its cover! I moved to Marina Bay a few weeks ago and have gotten off the bus near this store a few times and my thoughts ranged from "Is it in business?" and "Is it open?" to "It probably has like, nothing" and "The prices are probably even worse than the airport."Color me surprised!Despite being pretty small, this store is packed inside! It feels a little bit crowded but that's balanced out by the amount and variety of stuff to choose from. The meat counter is pretty impressive (well, if you like pork) and I was so impressed by the seafood - absolutely beautiful size 4-6 raw prawns for $25 per pound. The produce section is really, really small, but everything looked fresh and was really affordable - I got a few really green, tasty granny smith apples for only 99 cents per pound! The cashier I chatted with was really friendly, and told me the hours since I couldn't find them elsewhere - They're open at 8am everyday, and close at 11pm during the week and 8pm on Saturday and Sunday. I think it's a 50 cent charge for card transactions under $10, but with all the stuff they have here, it wouldn't be too difficult to just pick out enough stuff to get to $10.I'm really happy I stopped here the other day! It's great to have something within walking distance for groceries since I don't always want to get on the bus all the way to Safeway. I might not be able to get everything I'm always looking for, but for the basics or if I'm just needing something to cook for dinner, I know where to go now!

Wow, I have to admit, I've driven by the Richmond Food Center for years, and never went in. The outside of the place is really unappealing and in need of a major paint job. However, today I stopped in and was BLOWN AWAY by the selection, quality and friendly service there. This shop is a culinary dream. Along with meat, vegetables and bread / pasta / canned goods / icecream and liquor, their selection of speciality products including cajun and mexican foods was really deep. Being a fan of heritage beans, I'm always looking for different dried bean brands to try. They have SO many! And then, there's the service. Really friendly! What an awesome surprise.

The meat market part is great but the rest of the store is horribly over priced. Customer service was really good as well.
