I hadn't been here in years, but after going to the Farmer's Market on Grand Ave. two weeks in a row, I decided it's time to check out another. Located in Old Oakland near restaurants it's convenient to do some shopping and grab a quick bite. There were also someRestaurants featured this past Friday too, like one of my faves, Cholita Linda. Buuut, today I came for the produce. I've been looking for seeded watermelon in a half-assed way, and still no luck even at the farmer's markets. On the other hand, I can count on finding the stone fruit I need in season. I grabbed a bag of Rainer cherries, and about three pounds of apricots and nectarines. While walking towards the end of the market there was an older gentleman passing out mulberries as samples. I've never had a juicier berry. I immediately grabbed a box. 1 for $8, 2 for $15. They're in season from mid-June through August. Some listed benefits of this berry include being a good source of iron and vitamin C among other benefits. Being I've never tried em before and the farmers market was held right in the middle of the month I feel I lucked up. I didn't see these at the other farmers market the previous week, but that may be due to timing. In all I left with mulberries, apricots, nectarines, and raspberries. I have plenty of vegetables at home so there was no need to shop for them here, but in the future we will. I saw daikon and a bunch of other fresh vegetables. The goal personally is to get our nutrients directly from our food and not a capsule (vitamins) if we don't have to.Truthfully I do not know what to do with the purple bell peppers, but they were so pretty I had to flick a pic and look up recipes to know what I'm doing.

The place is big. Got here in the early morning as some stands were still in the process of setting g up. The place has a nice vibe and atmosphere. Nice architecture around and on a bright sunny day you can enjoy the shade caused by the buildings having a pleasant experience. It's around two blocks going from east to west and a block or two north to south. There was a lot of vendors with fruits, vegetables, and the alike. Not many food or unique local dishes. Yet again, I was there a bit too early. Vendors are always nice and willing to offer to try their merchandise. Need flowers, there's plenty for yourself or loved ones for a nice dinner or lunch. Easily accessible with 12th street/Oakland City Centre BART station and AC Transit 6,12,18,19,20,51A, 72, 72M, 72R, 96 come easily around then surrounding area. Always love the great deals of fresh berries, any colour or mix and match.

Always a pleasure coming to Oakland's Farmers Market. My first time this season. The newest and most interesting booth was the mulberry booth. Sweet mulberries grown in Brentwood for the first time in market. Yummmm. Always love to see what's in season. Come support local and our farmers on Fridays!

It's really a blessing that Oakland offers dozens of farmers' markets weekly, isn't it? After all, I've been to the expansive ones at Grand Lake and Jack London Square several times because they fit neatly into my otherwise mundane weekend activities. However, going to a farmers' market on a Friday morning actually requires pre-planning for me, something at which I just don't excel. I know the Old Oakland market has been around for at least a quarter century, but it has eluded me simply because Friday mornings are usually not a convenient time for me to peruse produce. It's the time I dedicate to lallygagging before the weekend. My loss because it's a good one. That might be because it felt more like a low-key street festival than a pure farmers' market. It's due to the more intense urban vibe, the appearance of live music acts, and the proximity to Swan's Market and other established eateries and stores that meld into the overall experience. The food kiosks are comparable with the other major farmers' markets, so expect a lot of diverse palates being targeted here. Including mine. BTW Chinatown is just across Broadway, so you can continue your produce shopping over there. It's just that Friday mornings don't work well as well for me as the weekends. I love Farmers' Markets-they are just the best. The Old Oakland Farmer's Market is also organized by UVFM. I enjoy going to their other locations, such as Willow Glen or Campbell. This one is open on Fridays from 8AM-2PM. We typically stop by 12PM-1PM during our lunch break. There are a lot of farmers' selling greens, vegetables, and fruits. I am never disappointed. There are also homemade healthcare items like lip balm, lotions, etc., as well as local honey. At the farther end (away from Broadway), there are stalls for ordering food. They sometimes change, but mostly are the same few shops. I enjoyed trying all of them-the baos, sandwiches, tamales, macarons. I have yet to try the Viet place because the lines are always too long and we are on limited time. I have also not tried the rotisserie chicken at the very end. I super recommend checking this out!

Love the Old Oakland Framers Market which filled with cultures and diversities. Rain or shine, not even the pandemic would stop the liveliness of the framers market; although is not as busy as the pre-covid time, but it is still business as usual with modification to meet the social distancing and masks required. The market is the home of various local vendors from organic vegetables, herbs, home grown local honey, food vendors and of course the kettle corn station. It is a must to go there early if you want to grab some fresh veggie and herbs. By 11am most goodies of fresh vegetables and fruits are almost gone. For the lunch pleasers to avoid waiting in the long line, be there before noon. My favorite vendors are the kettle corns and honey, but there are plenty of food vendors and fresh selections of greens for everyone.

Always a nice variety of vendors and great food. I appreciate how there's a small area to have lunch with tables on Washington Ave.

This is one of my favorite farmers markets. I try to come to this farmers market whenever I'm off on Fridays or I come super early in the morning. They have fresh produce for reasonable prices and many booths with a variety of fruits and vegetables to choose from. There are also baked goods, flowers, cheese, eggs, mushrooms, and a few food booths. Due of Covid, everyone must be wearing a mask and some booths have caution tape surrounding it to avoid customers touching all the produce. It looks rather empty in my photos but there were actually a lot of people grocery shopping in the morning. Definitely check it out and support your local farmers!

What a surprise! I was in town for business and decided to spend the morning exploring the area around my hotel. Immediately across the street was this delightful farmers market. Fresh produce, eggs, pastries, jewelry and bath goods line 9th street and one cross street west of Broadway. There were sitting tables, a gentleman teaching people how to make paper lanterns, macaron and Mediterranean food vendors, sugar cane, citrus nuts, and tons of greens. Everything looked amazing. Most vendors had signs showing where in the state they came from and if they were organic. I was pleased to find so many great farms from my part of the state representing. If you are in town when the market is open, bring a bag and an appetite and stop by. You won't be disappointed.
