What a cool concept to get quick, casual, but fantastic udon! I got the Miso Vegan udon, which I had zero expectations for and was so impressed at the level of flavor and perfect texture of my udon. I consider myself a bit of a connoisseur of noodles so don't get me wrong, this doesn't compare to Japan! But for San Ramon, this is 5 stars! When you first walk in, you can place a takeout order. For dine in, you keep walking into the restaurant around the corner, to place your order. They prepare your bowl for you and for an extra cost you can add fix ins, tempura etc (so I added sweet potato and zucchini), then you proceed down the line to go pay. Quick, friendly, efficient process.

It was a cold night and noodles were the best thing to warm us up! Took a drive to The Lot to Marugame Udon around 6pm on a Saturday. Surprisingly it wasn't packed. It was full but there were no long waits for tables. It was a pretty good flow in and out of the restaurant. Of course, we got udon and some tempura. We were surprised that there was a special on tempura and we got one free. I didn't see a sign anywhere for that but the register displayed "tempura special" and took the $3 off the bill. We got seating immediately and ate our dinners. We ended up sitting near the door so everytime someone came in or left l, a blast of freezing air came in. But oh well. We will be back soon! Really enjoy the food here!

My friend and I came in at 10:30am this morning right when the restaurant was open. We had trouble ordering from the kiosk. Someone had to end up taking the order for us. We weren't ask if our order was to go or dine-in. We assumed we were getting dine-in. To our disappointment, we were given to go bags with our food to go. This is the first time we experienced this.We end up still eating at the restaurant, but with our to go meal. Food is good, nice and simple. Service was so so, I think it can be better by asking customer if you want to dine-in or have the order to go. Have a sign that says kiosk is not working. I know your restaurant was just open, but you should still have everything ready to go at 10:30am right at opening time or don't open the restaurant if you are not ready at 10:30am. You should have check your kiosk if is ready to go and be ready to serve people. I had to cue someone from the kitchen for help as my friend and I were just standing there trying to figure out how to pay for the meal by the kiosk and it wasn't working.Overall, food is good, but service can be better. I never had a problem with the service here. And this is not my first time here, I have been here since the grand opening and quite a few times. Please ensure to have your server ready to assist by standing by the kiosk at 10:30am if there is a customer coming in to order food and ask if you are dining-in as chances are they are, do not assume to go unless they tell you.

The line was out the door and down quite a ways, but it moved quickly and we entered in under 30 minutes. Once in, we placed our order and there were staff to help us find a table quickly. Noodles were delicious and broth was wonderful! Don't let the lines deter you if you're looking for a comforting bowl of udon on a balmy Hawaiian night. Seating area was comfortable, but the self service drinks and condiments area was a bit chaotic.

Always wanted to try this spot but it's always popular with a long line. Not busy at 8pm on a weeknight when indulging with friend Max L! I love noodles but udon is not at the top of my list...it's just too "worm-like" for me. Hey, we all have our preferences. Still, enjoyed my bowl of: :: TONKOTSU UDON - flavorful and rich broth, with a hard boiled egg, and thin slice of pork. Added green onions and it was perfect for this cold weather. :: SHRIMP TEMPURA and ZUCCHINI TEMPURA ($2 each)Good try and probably wouldn't get it again as it had lost its crispness sitting under the heat lamp.Staff friendly and helpful. Ordering is "cafeteria-style": pick your udon bowl (pick a size) or protein bowl with your choice of toppers (crisp panko and green onions) and option of tempura. Bus your own tables. Lot parking and structure parking at the City Center Bishop Ranch, San Ramon

Marugame Udon offers a great casual dining experience with freshly made udon noodles and a variety of customizable toppings. The noodles are perfectly chewy, and the broth is flavorful. The self-serve style adds a fun, interactive element to the meal. The tempura options are crispy and well-prepared, though seating can get crowded during peak hours. Overall, it's an affordable and satisfying option for a quick, delicious meal. The staff is friendly and quick to help with any questions, and the ordering process is smooth thanks to the self-serve style. You can watch the udon being made fresh in front of you, which adds to the experience. Even during busy times, the line moves quickly, and the staff keeps things running smoothly. Overall, the service is attentive, and the food comes out fast, making it a great spot for a quick but satisfying meal.

Is 2025 the year of Udon for me? Maybe, maybe.I had Marugame for the first time late last year and loved it. For my first time, I went with the Nikutama and added on some sweet potato tempura, gyoza, and some shrimp tempura. The Nikutama was delicious - the broth was savory, it already has beef, and the noodles were the perfect texture. The tempura was good - not the best tempura I've had but also not bad. The batter is a little crispier than what I usually prefer for tempura. The gyoza was meh - I'd skip this one next time. It tastes like one of the frozen ones you'd get from costco and heat up at home. I've also enjoyed the chicken katsu curry udon. Definitely get more meat here and the curry flavor is delicious. It's not as brothy, but definitely more flavorful. As a first-timer it was a little confusing upon first walk in. They have a separate area to purchase for takeout or pick up online orders. If you plan to dine in, you can join cafeteria-like line. You'll let them know which bowl/entree you'd like to order. Then, you can add any add-ons (spices, more meat, etc). Then, right before the cashier, you can pick up any additional trays of the fried items. The restaurant itself is quite large and very busy around lunch time. They have a lot of tables inside along with quite a bit outside as well. You're in charge of bussing your own table and they have a clean up station where you can drop off your trays and bowls. When it's busy, it does get a little messy and the tables aren't really wiped down, but I'm sure that's because the staff gets busy at that time as well.Overall, I'll definitely be back. Love udon now and I'm shocked I didn't love it before!

Service was quick even there was a long line.Ambiance was casual, easy to find seating even it was crowded. The Kaki Udon was great: simple broth and udon was chewy. The tempura was good, can be less soaky yet with not too thick batter.Parking was good, can park at the parking structure, or the opposite overflow parking, since it was the weekend.

Marugame Udon is a solid choice for quick, fresh, and affordable Japanese udon. The setup is cafeteria-style, where you order at the counter, watch your meal being prepared, and pick from an array of tempura and side dishes. The udon noodles are the highlight--thick, chewy, and freshly made in-house. The broth is light yet flavorful, with options like traditional Kake Udon, rich Tonkotsu, and spicy variations. Toppings such as beef, tempura flakes, and green onions let you customize your bowl. Adam was super friendly and gave me superb customer service. It could be pretty busy at times but nonetheless a great spot to take your kids.

Went at lunchtime on a Thursday. The food was great and service was fast. No problems getting a table to sit down at. Sitting area was clean. The highlight was the tamago tempura. It was perfectly cooked and so crispy!
