They have the best Dosa so far compared to other places. I like that the dosa is perfect golden brown & cruchy. This place is a bit less busy compared to Sunnyvale location. The foods quality is the same as Sunnyvale. Highly recommend to try this place.

Was excited to find that they have a Madras Cafe in the East Bay but disappointed because it didn't taste like the Sunnyvale location. Located inside a grocery store.Pros:*easy parking *no line. Wasn't busy. Food came out fairly quickly. The menu seems to be exactly like the one in Sunnyvale. But keep in mind I went on a Tuesday evening and I'm not sure how busy they get on the weekends.Cons:*taste wasn't the same to me.I ordered the onion rava masala and kothu paratta. The masala inside the dosa tasted bland, not a lot of flavor or spice. Fairly clean tables, though the silverware didn't seem clean. Some spoons had leftover food stuck on. Overall it was just average.

Madras Cafe is our go-to spot, especially since we live nearby. Every time I visit Madras Groceries, we make it a point to order from there for a quick snack or dinner. They never disappoint! We're big fans of their sambar and the three varieties of chutney--they're always delicious. It's our regular place for a reason, and we always leave satisfied

Love the fact that I don't have to drive to Sunnyvale to have the best idly or dosa in the area. Exact same taste and today being pongal I got a sample chakkarai pongal to taste and my daughter (picky eater) loved it. It's located inside madras groceries. Again when I'm looking for good south Indian food, I'm looking for clean table and toilets, and obviously nice ppl! Ahmed Anna is the nicest shop manager for the groceries, their service is so amazing! And I'm so excited!

This place is finally open! The perfect place for your South Indian food like idli, Dosa, Vada etc. They have their soft opening now and plan to open full fledge over time. If you have visited their Sunnyvale location, the chutney, masala, sambar etc are just as good! Currently they have a limited menu that consists of Idli, Vada, Masala Dosa, Plain Dosa, Chole Bhature and Chai. The taste of the food is amazing, the service quick and place pretty clean. They have a small section within Madras Groceries to sit down and a kitchen. With I'm just a few places serving good South Indian food in the area, this is a definite winner. Will go back once they have more items added to the menu!

Location: easy access from 880. Decent parking. Service: order at the counter and food will be brought to your table. The staff at the counter doesn't repeat the orders to you to confirm. She missed on one of our items. But she is pleasant and friendly. Food was served promptly and quickly.Ambience: just tables and chairs and in the grocery shop at the back. Nothing to rave a about Food: very sad story. White coconut chutney was the only decent one. Rest all the chutneys were pathetic. Sambar was just watery dal. Vegetable uthappam was burnt and needless to say another flop. Special vegetable dosa had 1/2 kg of masala and loaded with cashews and totally tasteless. Just had the dosa part and left the rest. Bhatura was good but chAna was tasteless. Over all not a happy food experience. Never going back there

Located within the 'Madras Groceries' store, this branch of the beloved South Indian restaurant in Sunnyvale was eagerly anticipated by us, given its proximity to our home. While the ambiance is functional, offering the basics, the filter coffee hits the mark, and the dosa was satisfying. However, the mini idlis and pongal leaned towards the drier side, though the sambar remained flavorful. With time, I anticipate they'll refine their offerings to match the quality of the Sunnyvale store. Kudos to the polite and respectful server/manager, who deserves recognition for their service. Here's hoping for continued improvement and success for the restaurant in the coming months.

Food and services is what drives you here. I used to go to Madras cafe very often in Sunnyvale location. Fremont location maintained same standard. In my recent visit, I asked them to rush my dosa order. They provided complimentary medu Vada and explained that tawa takes time for getting heated up as I went 2:30(post typical lunch hours) which means dosa may take 5-10 minutes extra. Kara dosa is very spicy so take note of it. I liked vegetable dosa more in that trip.Ambience is not fancy but does provide basic comfort and cleanliness .

Absolutely love madras cafe... we've been going to the Sunnyvale restaurant for over a decade now.. it's the only place that has not gone down in quality. Everything tastes the same or better :) The only qualm I've with the Newark location is that the tables, chairs are not very clean.
