Louisiana Fish & Chips

The other day my job had me in downtown Oakland, and I decided to try the fried catfish at this small restaurant. I ordered the Catfish Combo w/ a salad instead of fries. Also, an order of onion rings. The person who took my order was nice and polite. I finally get my food after a short wait. Okay, the fried catfish was good. It was fresh, moist and the meat was flaky. However, the tartar sauce wasn't tartar sauce. It was some sort of salad dressing, maybe ranch dressing? I paid for extra tartar sauce, and both containers were some sort of salad dressing. Now, the onion rings. I like my onion rings battered and deep fried. These rings were limp, soggy, and breaded. They appeared either baked or microwaved. Not crispy at all. This place would of received 4-stars if I didn't order the onion rings.Would I return? No thanks

My son, LaTreyl, introduced me to Louisiana Fish & Chips. This is our second time here I had to wait for the traffic to go back home Lodi so this was a great find! The Red Snapper was cooked just like you would get down South. The service was great! And they have collard greens and hush puppies AND GUMBO NOW you know

A main staple for Oakland and for my family who have been going here for decades. When you have the taste for some fish or other seafood this is your spot.

I expected less, but was hoping for more from this establishment. Our meal was awful. This is so FAR from Louisiana-style or Cajun style fried fish that it's a shame. The breading is a low-end basic commercial brand that's pretty much tasteless - more flour based- without any hint of cornmeal. The fish is fried soft, placed in a paper tray that's placed inside of a brown paper bag -that is then placed in a plastic bag for carry out. Within 5 minutes your fried fish order is greasy, sweating and terribly limp and soft. I even requested frying the fish and prawns extra-crispy -and add additional seasoning, but the request was not followed. AND, no, they do NOT serve Tartar Sauce, it is some sort of sweet creamy sauce. BUSINESS OWNERS: You just can't put seafood in your supply chain, lightly bread and season it, fry it, serve it and call it Louisiana fried fish. You should't advertise as *fish & chips* either. YOU CANNOT and YOU SHOULD NOT. Although prices were very reasonable -for the amount of food received, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. My go-to cafe in Berkeley was closed yesterday, and I will continue to patronize that establishment because THEY KNOW HOW TO SEASON and FRY FISH. It costs more, but my goodness, there's no comparing to what I received yesterday - absolutely NONE.

Good food, best to call ahead. Lots of fries for the regular order. The fish we ordered was not filet size more of nugget style. No complaints from my husband.

Overpriced, small portions and my snapper wasn't fresh. Went for lunch, plus I had my phone stolen from an employee on a former visit. Wouldn't recommend.

Food was absolutely delicious and prepared without too much salt. I had oysters which were a decent size and a good portion of French fries. Staff were friendly and helpful with me being a first time customer. Can't wait to try out their other food options.

My first time in this place, and I've lived in Oakland a Long time. I got the fish sandwich and coleslaw, so good, classic toppings , and a sesame seed bun. Fast, and friendly, and delicious. I will be back. It smelled too good to wait, so I ate it in the car.

Worst fried Cajun chicken ever had went to sleep hungry sent $20 for 10 pice suck a rip off

Good fried fish with excellent service, recommended for seafood lovers. One of the few places still accepting cash!
