Los Hermanos Produce and Meat Market

The ice cream is good but expensive. I paid over nine dollars for three scoops. They have most staples. The premixed and seasoned fajita meat seems promising. I will find out for sure tomorrow because I bought 2 pounds of it. I was disappointed that they didn't have any coffee. The only coffee they had were instant varieties. That's crazy. It's a little dark inside. But overall a nice place to shop near the house.

The bright green, cavernous storefront drew me in from across the street. The produce all seemed to be ripe and in good shape, and the assortment of spices and dried ingredients was impressive. Given the amount of floorspace, I was surprised by the small amount of stock, relative to most grocery stores. (Los Hermanos has NO shelves above about 5 feet, and darn few of those.) That amount of open space felt both underutilized and, at the same time, freeing. But hey, they had 6 different varieties of flan mix! So instead of pudding this weekend, I'm making flan. Muy bien!TRIVIA: Flan, aka crème caramel or caramel custard, is identical to crème brulee except that flan has a soft caramel top while crème brulee is torched to create a crisp surface.

Came here for some Queso Fresco because the stuff they sell at Whole Foods is a tasteless rubber block of white material that I can't call cheese.

This market is very small, but even though they don't have as much space as some of the larger stores in the area, they somehow manage to provide customers with a great variety of every kind of grocery item anyone could need. If you are in the market for fresh produce; this place has you covered, they offer beautiful looking fruits and veggies at an excellent price. In addition to produce, this market has a good selection of fresh meats and cheeses available by the pound. Also, if you stop by be sure to snap a few photos of the wall art, the murals are hand painted and very well done :)

Los Hermanos is an example of how wonderful a job a small, immigrant business can transform a decayed urban space into something both useful and artistic. R.M. describes the process of how a small grocery store and fruteria evolved out of a unused building on Fruitvale Avenue. The result is a colorful facade, painted green with lots of pictures of fruits and vegetables. It adds a real splash to the vibrant but sometimes troubled Fruitvale District. I pass by Los Hermanos regularly, and often stop to buy cheese, avocados, tortillas and plantain chips sold in small baggies (delicious!). The staff are friendly and helpful. They also sometimes serve tacos out from, which I haven't tried yet...I'll save that one for the next Yelp reviewer.

been here a few times it,s a typical mexican latin american grocery store you see in my beloved fruitvale district it,s a cool store they also sell hot foods in the weekends havn,t ate there yet but it,s preatty amazing that they turned this place into a food store not to long ago this was a car repair shop .....

This place cracks me up! I watched them transforming the building last summer and today I finally had a chance to stop by here. It looked like was formerly some kind of automotive repair place-- kind of a big rectangular front with a domed roof inside and a semicircular drive-through entrance (for tire repairs?). It was beige and really grungy with soot but now the whole thing has been painted two shades of very shiney bright green with colorful images of fruits and vegetables painted across the front. In the entry-way they've got produce galore for very good prices. I got mangos 3/$1.00, satsumas for 69 cents/lb, a pineapple for $2.99, and small avocados for 50 cents apiece. Inside is more produce, several rows of wire shelves stocked with Mexican and Central American foods, a cheese case, a case of frozen tropical oddities, and a fresh meat/fish counter. There's no parking but in the front of the store where it looks like it should be a driveway it is ok to park. When I was there it looked like most of the people had walked. You can get to it by exiting 580 at Fruitvale and driving down or exiting 880 at Fruitvale and driving up. You could combine it with a trip to Farmer Joe's. I would recommend going on a weekend because probably that's when stuff moves and is freshest. It'll be interesting to see how the produce holds up when the weather gets warm... these independents don't always have the refrigeration capabilties of the bigger supermarkets so stuff might not stay as fresh. We'll see. Good selection though. I am going to try to get a photo up.

Consistently finding the best avocados I've had anywhere at Los Hermanos in Fruitvale. Love their pre-seasoned fajitas meats and veggies too.

I read the reviews and checked it out. A couple of the veggies inside must have had an off day...wilted and sorry looking. I might have tried it again earlier in the morning for fresher vegetables but the cashier had a disinterested look and did not encourage questions, maybe she had more important things to do...maybe watching the paint dry? Pity, IMO the area needs more quality grocery stores to compete with Farmer Bob's or was it Joe's up the street with nosebleed pricing.

Very good and good service best place for mexican fruit snack in fruit vale I give it a 5 and the food was good
