Never disappointed with the atmosphere, the drinks, or the live musicians at Local Edition. I have been back many times ranging from busy late night weekends to mid-week chill dinner time drinks and couldn't believe how fast the time passed each visit. Bring good company, order the Ava Gardner, and sit back and relish in the ambiance of Local Edition and you'll never want to leave.

I had such a nice time here! The vibes of this are immaculate down to all the details. The typewriters, suitcases, and newspapers provide the perfect decor and the dark lighting give everything a dreamy romantic look. The place is deceptively large but that actually works against it because some of the back seats seem like they have no view of the stage at all.Bartenders are all very friendly and knowledgeable. Tried four different drinks on the menu and each had it's own unique flavor. Some, like the under market, had weird flavor combinations that I felt didn't work well together. My favorite was the Dublin down because I'm a sucker for egg white foam in a cocktail and also the different components of the drink gave it a great depth of flavor. They had a fantastic espresso martini even if it still doesn't beat my personal favorite in SF (Persona on sutter street, btw).I made reservations based on recommendations from other reviews but they didn't seem necessary for a random Wednesday night. That being said, it seems like a reservation does get you a better seat. Finally, obviously have to talk about the live music. It's the thing that ties all the different elements of this bar together to form the perfect experience. Nothing else in the world can compare to the vibe of listening to live jazz in a low lit room while sipping on a craft cocktail. It really feels like stepping back in time.

Went here last night for a nice night out with my partner since going into the city is such a treat for us at this point . Easy to find and right off the bart if you're traveling from the east bay. It was our first time here so I was pleasantly surprised they had great cocktails & a really nice venue in general. Music was decent but not what I was expecting. However, the service was not the best. We were barely helped and often ignored. We noticed the folks around us ordered at least twice before we were even asked if we wanted anything else. Lastly, I'm not going to blame this place for what happened but I do think there was a level of unpreparedness on this business' end. There was a large party that attended on 1/18 and somehow managed to infiltrate into other people's space, grabbing chairs and moving around tables without asking. The staff seemed to notice and I initially thought they were telling them they couldn't do that but instead seemed to be accommodating all of their requests. While I understand the need to accommodate the customer, these folks were rude & one of them even shoved their belongings into me as if I didn't exist & another guest nearly sat in my lap. This party was large enough, in my opinion, to constitute a private party rental of some sort. I noticed other guests were uncomfortable by them too and physically getting up to move away from them. We were so uncomfortable and felt pretty neglected that we left after the bands first 15 minute intermission. I don't know if I'd come back for their cocktails alone but we had an okay time up until the group ruined our night.

I came during Christmas time during a happy hour after work. The decor is such a vibe!! There's a big stage for live music, and there was a beautiful Xmas tree on the side. Drinks were good; balanced and quick to come. Crowd was mostly work happy hour ppl, but they had a lot of seats so it was nice feeling good energy without having to listen in on work convos. I definitely want to come to watch a show next time!

I had an absolutely amazing time at Local Edition this weekend with a friend. We stopped by early in the night with a reservation and was immediately blown away with how nice the space was. There was plush red booths lining one side, with the full service bar on the other. And because it was December, the holiday decor just made the whole space feel so much more cozy - the wreaths on the walls and the Christmas tree by the stage. Typewriters were perched up on little shelves as decor pieces, and even our menu was in the style of a newspaper. The attention to detail was stunning.I was surprised that they did not offer any food options here (not even little snacks), and only drinks. I ordered one of their craft cocktails, the Ava Gardner, which was probably one the BEST cocktails I have ever had: it was fresh, milky but light at the same time, and I couldn't taste the alcohol at all! We were really lucky this night because we caught a little of GamperDrums FunkJazz's set, which was a total vibe and made me dance in my seat the whole time. I would say the service could be a little slow when they started to get busy (we had to ask for the bill twice), but I appreciated the constant check-ins with our host throughout the night.

This is a little gem that is accessible via Bart if you are coming from the East Bay. We got off of Bart and it was only a short walk from the Montgomery Station. If you blink while walking, you may miss it, we did. Finally, after using the GPS, we were able to find this location. The theme is old school newspaper printing and publishing, with the framed editions and manual typerwriters throughout the venue. It is such a great vibe. We heard it would be best to make a reservation, so we did for 6 people. Not a problem. We were there when we were supposed to be seated and the time slot was perfect for enjoying a few beverages. The table was in the middle of everything which made it convenient for getting up and dancing, getting a drink from the bar if you prefer that to waiting for your server and right in the line of sight of the stage. The music was hopping and there were people up on the dance floor spinning and bopping around. We each had 2 drinks and enjoyed the ambiance. The prices were not bad, but I did feel like the glasses were a tad smaller than typical size. Our server was very nice and there was not a long wait from the time we placed our drink orders to having it placed in front of you. This is a cute spot and I hope to be back soon.

Delicious drinks! I loved my martini, but I can't remember what it was called. Service was very fast. The space was nice as well, but we weren't fans of the country music. We might come back depending on who is playing that night.

We went here on a Sunday because we were looking for a Jazz Bar, that was the description on their listing online but we were already inside and we were in the mood for fun and live music. They performers where good but I wouldn't say the same for their drinks and seating area.

I'm a typewriter collecting history and film buff. This is a newspaper and Citizen Kane themed bar. Outstanding. There is a large bar, but no seating there. There are high tables near the bar, and booths all around the perimeter. There a small bandstand, and an area for dancing. I've been there when the band was the Cosmo Alleycats, and people showed up in period costumes to swing. There are several other jazz band regulars. There are typewriters everywhere, maybe a hundred. There's one by the nondescript front door, to tell you you've arrived. There are full page antique SF newspapers under glass on display as well, fascinating to look at if all the tables are occupied, and you're just wandering around. Some of the cocktails are named after the film, or you can select from a list of very good whisky's. There really is something for everyone. Blondie had TWO cocktails with me last visit, including a whisky based cocktail that tasted soo smooth. I've also been there with friends, and we ordered a pitcher of cocktails. There's usually plenty of space at the bar for you to approach and order. The whole place has a speakeasy vibe; you'd never guess from the sidewalk that anything like this exists under your feet.

The local edition is the most unique club in San Francisco in my humble opinion. The place is located at the basement of famed Hearst Newspaper Building that is now closed! The doorman was pretty cool. He told us that the club only serves liquor, cocktails and other alcoholic beverages but no food. It didn't deter us a bit since we had one of the better dining experience before we tried a nearby club. The dance floor was perfect for the two couples to dance, and the band was an old ragtag horn section with Tuba, piano and three main men for trumpet, trombone and clarinet. There was one person for Banjo. The bartenders were superb and they charged $19 each. Overall the experience was fantastic. I'm so pleased to have experienced the old style band music and got to have some of the best high quality cocktails. I strongly recommend you try it when you're in SF.
