Lazeez Kitchen opens where Layalina was with a slight modification of the menu & decor, leaving the infrastructure intact.Ordered at counter, pd, got food in 15ish minutes.Offerings (N. African?, Middle Eastern): wraps & shawarmas, plates, appetizers, drinks..Bites: lamb Shawarma plate (18.95)-small salad of romaine lettuce, tomato, onions, cucumbers & white dressing crunchy fresh. -small strips of braised boneless lamb shoulder slightly chewy, slightly juicy. Prepped with olive oil, nutmeg, garlic, salt, peppers & other spices, topped with white drizzle probably yogurt. *side of chili sauce probably North African harissa: blend of chili peppers, garlic, olive oil + other spices. Not spicy hot, has sweet, smoky, tangy & non-hot spicyness. **a contrast to Ethiopian berbere sauce which has sharp, hot spiciness. Lotsa yellow coloured flavored long grain rice. Looks like saffron, probably wasn't. Unable to finish. Took rest home for another meal. -though didn't know exact origins. It was certainly different from previous Shawarma eats.

We found this place while in the area--it popped up in a search for nearby restaurants, and with all the great reviews, we decided to give it a try. We chose it over a place with hundreds of reviews because all the reviews were great and we really love Middle Eastern food. It was close to closing time when we arrived, and it was dark outside, so we weren't quite sure where to park at first. Luckily, we found a spot just across the street. From the start, the customer service was excellent. The person who took our order was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu (especially gluten-free options), and very helpful. We decided to share a chicken shawarma plate and a hummus plate. The portions were generous--probably more than enough for the two of us!The chicken shawarma was delicious, served over a bed of yellow rice with a side of Greek salad that I actually preferred over the ones I had in Greece. The food was beautifully plated, and it was clear a lot of care went into its preparation. It took about 15 minutes for our food to arrive--not the fastest, but absolutely worth the wait for the quality and attention to detail. The hummus plate was huge, served with pita for my non-GF counterpart. The hummus itself had a distinct and almost unexpected flavor--different from traditional hummus. The more I think about it, the more intrigued I am. I'd love to hear what others think! It's definitely worth trying alongside their other dishes, but I'd say the hummus might be a bit much if it's the only thing you get. The unique flavor is somewhat distinctive and might be too different for one person to finish on their own especially if it's the only dish you get. One thing I'd love to see in the future is the option to add cut veggies with the hummus, which would be great for those who don't eat pita.Although this is a Middle Eastern restaurant, as I mentioned, some of the flavors were different from what we've had before. Having just visited Greece, we found ourselves trying to pinpoint the unique spice blend but couldn't quite figure it out. There seemed to be a hint of cloves. It was very subtle.Towards the end of our meal, our server offered us complimentary chai, which was a lovely touch and perfect for a chilly evening. We really enjoyed that. Before leaving, we chatted with our server, who turned out to be the owner. It seems to be a family-run place. When we asked about the flavor influences, he explained that while the food is Middle Eastern, they are originally from Eritrea and incorporate Eritrean spices into their dishes for a unique Middle Eastern experience. That explained the flavors we couldn't quite put our finger on!Overall, we had a very good experience and recommend this spot. I would call it a hidden gem!It absolutely deserves more recognition. They also offer catering. We thought we could try that sometime but want to go back and try other dishes first!

I was looking for something filling, not the usual and nothing commercial.I ordered the chicken shawarma plate and oh my goodness, it did not disappoint. Delicious, well-made, East-African seasoned chicken plate with fresh, great quality ingredients. Huge portion size and immensely satisfying. the prices are great and the establishment is impeccably clean. I will absolutely be back. Easy choice if you're in the area.

Great lunch spot! There are tables to set at as well as a higher seated table if you'd like to stand or sit higher. Staff are friendly as well! I ordered the chicken shawarma wrap & a 6-piece side of falafels.

This place doesn't get the recognition it deserves. I tried this place out multiple times and enjoyed every last bite. Have tried different Halal spots, but this place has a kick compared to the ones I've been to. If someone can let me know what background this food is, I would greatly appreciate it. The food is bomb, I tried both the wrap and plate for chicken shawarma, and man the spices they use is good. Super chill spot and service is solid af. I recommend this spot to anyone. Definitely my go to spot when I am in the area.

Stopped into this place to try it -- was planning to go to Oasis next door. The Flafel wrap was damn near perfect -- the falafel was crisp to perfection, the wrap was grilled and it had lots of pickles and the right balance of veggies. Not soggy at all. It was 10/10.

The shakshuka is ON POINT. The folks who own/work at the restaurant at very friendly and attentive. My husband has tried the lamb plate with rice and vegetables. It delicious, flavorful and a solid portion size. Can also confirm the lentil soup is flavorful and filling. Would definitely recommend if you're walking by or looking for good Mediterranean.
