I was looking for a local baker for a baby shower in the Berkeley area and I came across Layers By Xanthe. I sent Ericka a picture of the cake I was looking for and she was prompt to respond. She gave me all her unique cake flavor options and was open to my suggestions as well. We ordered a chocolate hazelnut cake. It was delicious! Everyone at the party enjoyed the cake very much too. The cake was super moist and filled with hazelnuts. Ericka even delivered the cake which made it less of hassle for us as well. I appreciated her professionalism, prompt service, attention to detail and of course the delicious cake! I highly recommend her if you are looking for a cake in the East Bay Area.

My sister and I worked with Ericka on a custom baby shower cake a few weeks ago and we were absolutely blown away by this cake. The design was exactly what we had requested based off a Pinterest design and Ericka went above and beyond to get it exactly to match the design. We had found it very hard to work with other bakers in the area who were either non responsive, didn't want to work with fondant or very expensive. Ericka on the other hand was super responsive and very accommodative with tweaks and requests. The cake itself was amazingly delicious , we had opted for a hazelnut cream frosting and chocolate cake - every single guest at the shower raved about the cake and several had multiple servings. We had a lot left over and savored it for multiple days. The cake was perfectly moist and not overly sweet. She also delivered the cake thankfully which was a huge relief for us and made sure to stay to confirm the cake was per the request. I would definitely recommend working with Ericka and will be definitely reaching out to her for future custom cake orders !

Everything I've tried has been a winner! Last year my cousin ordered a lemon cardamom birthday cake and it tasted as wonderful as it looked. This year my friends at work ordered afternoon tea to be delivered since I had to work on my birthday. Those savory bites were unique and phenomenal! Not a dry tea sandwich in sight. Loved the savory portion so much, especially the chanterelle mushroom eclair and tomato quail egg galette.The food comes beautifully packaged and ready to serve. Treat yourself to a delicious afternoon!

I can't resist a fancy high tea service, but the pandemic has made difficult to visit tea salons. I learned about Layers By Xanthe through Instagram, and I was excited to learn that she offers local delivery for her high tea service. The tea includes a customizable mix of savory and sweet treats, along with your choice of tea. Everything was excellent, from the pastries to the quiche. All of the treats were perfectly sized, so we were able to sample a little bit of everything. Everyone had a hard time choosing their favorite, but the fruit tarts were amazing (I would definitely order a larger version on its own). I highly recommend this tea service for a special brunch, tea party, or just to treat yourself.

I love Layers by Xanthe's cakes! I've ordered two now, and was blown away by both. Overall, not only are the flavors/designs of the cakes incredible/expertly done, the thoughtful customer service is also very much appreciated. On both occasions that I ordered cakes, Ericka reached out to me via email to ask more about design preferences. The whole experience felt very personalized. Combine that with local delivery, and it's all very much worth the price.The first cake I ordered was in 2020, a custom chocolate cake with chunky strawberry filling and chocolate strawberries on top. The cake was for my mom who prefers dark chocolate and not-too-sweet desserts overall, and Ericka fulfilled every request beautifully. The second cake I ordered was just this past weekend for my own birthday, and it was the raspberry yuzu layer cake. Another great combo of flavors, and highly recommend for anyone who likes citrus-y, tart desserts. Excited to someday try the pastry boxes and savory options. Everything she makes is incredible and you won't be disappointed. I've had everything from cakes to savory pastries and they are top notch. Pasty dough is perfectly flaky and amazing flavor. The precision and skill is unmatched. I brought my parents some madeleines and they're the best my dad has ever had (and he has a major sweet tooth). Truly cannot recommend enough!

I can not tell you how amazing these cakes and pastries are. I have ordered a valentines box which was so full and beautiful with breakfast sandwiches, cake,cookies tea cake and extras. Everything was beautiful boxed and hand delivered. I have also ordered the Saed cake and it was amazing. I can not wait for another reason to buy something for a friend or myself. Homemade, detailed and delicious.Highly recommend this local Black women run and own business.

I stumbled across this business looking for a different high tea place to go to. Then came the pandemic! As I continued to follow this business, I saw they did delivery! This past year I have ordered from them multiple times for high tea with friends in the backyard, birthday cakes to celebrate family members and holiday treats. I know food is not love, but I would swear Ericka knows how to bake love into her goods. I should also add that I am a frosting girl. Cake is there as a vehicle to administer frosting in my mouth. Ericka's skills has won me over & I can officially say I like cake! When it's moist and tastes fantastic, it's like I discovered something new!This small business felt like a life raft in a tough year. It helped me get together with friends and celebrate family during a rough year. I'm so excited to see what the future will hold for this dynamic business and will be there to continue to support & cheer them on!

I am so glad that I ordered a birthday cake from Erika, not only did it look beautiful, it was tastefully decorated with so much attention to detail, it was made perfectly, everyone said it was the yummiest. I ordered the Chocolate on Chocolate with garden decoration and it looked like a stained glass window. The cake was moist and rich and there was a thin layer of some salted caramel/cream/ganache that really elevated the entire experience. The frosting/decoration was not too much, also, Ericka used the colors I requested which were the birthday girl's favorite. It was a perfectly made cake, it was super convenient to order, it was affordable especially compared to bakeries nearby, and it was beautiful.

What a disappointment!I ordered a Lemon Meringue Tart on the web site and reached out to Erika (through Yelp messaging) and asked to please have a not-too-sweet tart. Got a pretty not-so-friendly email berating me for messaging through Yelp and not her web site, and telling me that she'll do her best with the sweetness.The photo on the order page showed a thick layer of Meringue. The tart that was delivered was dotted with tiny dots of meringue - not a layer what so ever! The tart was really sweet and not at all tasty. People left most of it on their plates and no one wanted to take the leftovers...So...Service is 1 star and flavor is even less than that...
