Food - 4.5/5, Price: $$, Drinks - 4/5, Service 5/5 We celebrated a family birthday at Piñata's on a Monday night. It was a spacious dining area with plenty of seating. I got the carnitas dinner platter which could honestly feed 2-3 people, and came with rice, beans, and jalapeños. The carnitas were super tasty. One of my dinner mates got al pastor tacos, which were good but very sweet. Another got the sopes dinner with chicken and carne asada - she asked for refried beans on top (they normally come on the side) and the sopes masa was thick and fluffy yet light. The fajitas were also generously portioned and tasty as well. For drinks we got two margaritas and two virgin piña coladas. They were good, and the waiter asked if we wanted seconds. I could see how drinks would add up to a $$$ bill. Overall, I like that the restaurant is family owned and family oriented as well. Would come again on a weeknight.

I have been coming here for decades. Last night was my very last time and I'm going to tell you what happened and you can judge if this is the kind of restaurant in which you want to spend YOUR hard earned money. We walked in and it was slow, no problem. There was some kind of party or event happening in the back room. There were many servers milling around but I figured they were just taking care of the event. Half of my party is diabetic, and this is important for later.Waitress came over and we ordered our drinks and they brought over one small basket of chips. When the drinks came the waitress told us that she forgot which were the diet and which were the regular. So after we tasted them, we discovered that she brought 3 diets and 1 regular. So we had to send her to fix the drink order (again, important for later). While we were waiting for the drinks to be corrected, we witnessed wait staff picking food off of the platters going into the kitchen and EATING THEM. I am cleared with my professional food handler license and I can tell you, this is never ok, and if the health department was ever to find out- this restaurant is looking at some pretty big fines. Just saying. We ordered and they asked if we wanted to get another basket of chips, we said yes and we were promptly ignored. Whatever. My table (but not me, I was still fine) ordered another round of drinks. SO for those keeping score- this is the first refill for my table, and I am on my original drink. We finished eating and sat. And sat. And sat. There are about 6 servers and the manager milling around. They were studiously not looking at our table and I needed a box. After waiting about 10 minutes, I asked for a refill on my soda and I was told (very rudely) that the manager has told them that we only get 2 refills (and did I get a refill? NO). I asked to speak to the manager because I am furious. I am being charged all this money...and I don't even get a refill? This is about the time all of the servers start talking about my family. And this is my PSA not to talk about people in another language because you don't know if they know that language. So it is much better to just talk about them to their face, because they know you are doing it. Finally I wave the manager over. I ask him to show me where in the menu it says 2 refills only and why am I being excluded from having ANY refills. He says it doesn't matter what the menu says it matters what HE says. Fair play. I wonder what the health department is going to say about your slop trays in the center area where you put your Sunday brunch? So in closing, my dinner made me sick, the service made me sick and tired, and next time I want some street tacos I will go wrestle them from the rats in your parking lot where I have less of a chance of getting sick, at least the service will be better.

Came here with my family for my birthday dinner. I hadn't been here in years. The spot was clean and well decorated for the holidays. The customer service started off bad. We went a while with no service to refill drinks or chips while we were figuring out what to order. But the service was excellent after that. I ordered the cheese enchilada dinner with a side order of corn tortillas. This was excellent. Flavors brought t back to my childhood when I would visit the original La Piñata in Hayward. So good. I was upset that the order of corn tortillas is now only two tortillas. When it used to be three tortillas for a long time growing up.

I have to say the food here was amazing!!!! Literally some of the best Mexican food I have ever had.... Trust me when I say that you will not go away disappointed or still hungry.... The service was top-notch.... Our waiter took our orders very quickly and we didn't have to wait long for our food to be served advertisers came out first food came out perfect time later they do have free chips and salsa and the salsa is amazing..... Our table was constantly bust so there was no dishes really hanging around either. The overall atmosphere of this place is pretty chill and laid back.... This place is quiet well maintained and definitely makes you feel right at home. I 100% highly recommend this place and anybody who gives it less than a four star is absolutely insane... I put it at five star because I couldn't see any other reason not to.

Always a good choice to go to when you want good quality Mexican food and if you like to dine in, it is a wonderful experience. From the decor to the customer service, La Piñata is in my top 5 Mexican spots to go to. I love their shrimp plates, their drinks, and their street tacos are always a hit. This is a place my friend and I always meet for good food and vibes!

La Piñata is consistent and good. I don't think it's the best Mexican place I've ever had but it's tried and true. I mostly like coming here for happy hour, or apps and drink kind of night. The restaurant is large, I like the bar area that to the left of the restaurant after entering. It's pretty cute with couches, and high tables. They have fun flavored margaritas. We like to share to share the sample platter with quesadillas, wings, nachos, etc. again I've had better food elsewhere but it goes well with their tasty margaritas and some chisme with the girlies.Recommend if you want a quick simple hour. Service is attentive!

La Pinata has has been around for ages but only visited the San Leandro location (recently) for work happy hour. No special menu or pricing just menu of appetizers, entrees, desserts (not all available) and of course, drinks. Ended up sitting in the bar area with lounge seating (2 couches and a coffee table) which made for relaxed get together...that is, for maybe an hour or 2. Since we ended up being there for 3.5 hours til closing, 9pm (as former colleague had lots to say) it can get a bit uncomfortable.Items ordered 3 - 3.5 stars: LA PINATA PLATTER - $26Quesadilla, jalapeño poppers, potato skins chicken wings, mini chimichangas, nachos with sour cream and guacamole and nachos....Great for sharing and all decent but the chicken wings were super salty! STEAK NACHOS - $16 - pinto beans, Monterey Jack with cheese, jalapeños, guacamole and sour cream - simple and satisfies the nacho craveCHURROS with ICE CREAM - fried nicely and delivered hot - perfectDrinks were good but pricey (hmmm...pina colada $16) and 5 dessert options on the menu but only 2 were available. Our server would return each time saying "we don't have it".... Service attentive and efficient which elevated rating to another star. Plenty of lot parking with outside dining available but no table service. Order inside and food brought out.

We were a table of seven. Service was spot on. Food was good. Because this was a business group, I did not take pictures but everyone appeared to enjoy their food. I ordered a Combination #13, which is an Enchilada (I got chicken), Chili Relleno, Rice & Beans. Delicious!

La Piñata was a disappointing choice for lunch on our way to the marina for our power walk. The food was bland, and the corn tortilla was inedible. Nachos would have been a better option. Unfortunately, I ordered the red snapper street tacos and regrettably cannot request a refund. But the upside of the experience, the customer service was decent. There was a beautiful rose on the table that looks to be thriving and out of the corner of my eye the bar looked a little bright and jazzy. So today we have to give them three thumbs down. My lunch companion did enjoy their burrito. But how can you really go wrong with a burrito? Don't my food look gross!!

Debating whether to stop here with my husband, he's new here from the peninsula area. I told him I had been here many years ago and it was authentic.Do not order la piñata platter, they gave my husband and I 2 .5 FROZEN wings, 2 FROZEN jalapeño poppers and a large nacho plate (they basically sold us some nachos with no meat for $25.99) The only good thing were the 3 potato skins, I believe they may have actually cooked those.I ordered the adult street tacos for my kids and it looked like old ground beef, not authentic.Better off going to Los pericos if you want authentic.
