Kimono is a family favorite for birthday celebrations. Great for large groups to sit around a teppanyaki grill and we are always paired with a fun and entertaining chef. It's like having a meal and a show!Beef Julienne and Teppan Shrimp is a must try!

S E R V I C E:Parking could be a bit troublesome, but don't forget sat the side of the restaurant there is more parking, just in the dirt. We had a reservation for 5:00, got seated by 5:30, and didn't have a cook in front of us until 7:15. We were starving. Our cook was cool, but I believe they need new "tricks" to show us since I remember seeing the same ones back in 2014. F O O D:I ordered a sushi boat for two, and I was surprised it was meant to be shared - I could have eaten it all by myself! My family enjoyed their meal from the hibachi grill, and the garlic butter they use to cook with everything smells and tasted delicious! O V E R A L L:I honestly don't see myself coming back - the wait was too long for the amount of food.

I went to Kimono last night for the first time with a small group and had a terrible experience. The parking lot is small and difficult to access. When you walk through the door, you're in the bar which forms a relatively narrow walkway to get to the seating host, thus it was crowded and hard to pass by other patrons. Once we were finally seated for teppanyaki, we were able to order after a reasonable period of time. When the first course arrived (onion soup), we were shorted one bowl of soup. Then the salad came and we were shorted one salad (and still one soup). The excuse we were given was "Oh, sorry, we ran out of bowls." I'm unclear how a restaurant of that size can be "out of bowls" for such a long period of time when a commercial dishwasher completes its cycle in minutes. Our teppanyaki chef seemed to either be shy or having an off day. All the other chefs in the room were very engaging. We had two 10-year olds with us and they were far more engaged in watching the other chefs than ours. The only bright side was that the food was good. It wasn't as flavorful as other teppanyaki restaurants I've been to, but it wasn't bad and was sufficient in quantity. At the end of the meal, we were presented with the check which reflected inflated charges we were not expecting. They charged us $4 for a club soda (which costs them pennies as it comes from the soda machine). The server offered us the option of fried rice instead of steamed rice but did not explain that it would not be an "up charge" but a completely separate charge of $7.75 each. Only 3 of the 7 meals came with ice cream, but since the two kids didn't order directly from the kids menu, they were not offered what I consider a half scoop of ice cream. The server tried to insist that we would be charged $5.75 each for the tiny amount of "gourmet ice cream" for each of the two kids. This place is so not worth the astronomical amount of money they extracted from us. The food was good, not great, but you pay for the teppanyaki "show," which I feel we didn't really get. Expect to be nickeled and dimed if you go there.Truthfully, the only reason we ended up at Kimono was because both Benihana in Concord and Kobe in Pleasant Hill were fully booked. Next time we will plan better so that we can go to Kobe which is a FAR SUPERIOR experience than Kimono.

The food at Kimono is WAY better than what you would order at Benihana! The food is 10/10!!!Now the service is ALWAYS friendly. Only thing they need to work on is having faster service. And getting water out. When I managed a restaurant in OR, I trained ALL my servers to bring the table water before their actual drink that they ordered. I see at a lot of restaurants, servers don't do that. It makes it a bit difficult to come back when the service is slow, but the food is absolutely delicious

Had the pleasure of checking out Kimono Japanese Restaurant. Typical Hibachi style cooking with sushi you can order as well. Parking wasn't hard but it wasn't easy, the lot is small. Once in we had to wait for a bit once we were seated but it wasn't too bad. The food was good and the ambiance was up and fun. Def a good place for a group if you haven't tried hibachi.

Came in to celebrate a birthday with a large family group but were informed that we called and canceled.Which we obviously did not so they tried to accommodate us in the same room. Unfortunately besides that and our tables amazing hibachi chef Jorge nothing else was worth the price they charge. A few items never came out then our waitress was missing for a while so we couldn't ask about the missing food until we were almost done eating. The sushi orders came out very late parts that weren't supposed to be crunchy were kind of soggy or had no flavor. My chicken katsu don the rice to meat ratio was way off, could've used a few more decent sized pieces and sat on top of the rice because it was not crispy at all. Come for the hibachi if you can afford it.

Kimono is a family friendly restaurant. The food was delicious and the servers was great! It was my first time at a Benihana style restaurant and it was a great experience! We had a six course meal. It starts with a soup, then salad, then there's cooked vegetables, fried rice (or you can order steam rice) your choice of protein, then dessert! The only downside was that we had a reservation at 8 and they seated us at 8:20. They started cooking on the griddle an hour later. Besides that, it was a fun experience!

Been here a couple times before and after a few years coming back they were still able to make the Bloody Mary meal I've had years ago.I would say if you would like to try it's, you can definitely request it even with it off the menu.We came by for an event close by and I wanted to revisit this location because of the food and service. The prices have gone up since the last time I had been here but the amount of food still seemed reasonable for what we ordered.I highly suggest the lunch menu but after 3 when lunch is over I would say take the tables where they cook for you to enjoy a little entertainment while you dine.
