Gopi and his wife are very friendly and attentive and the food is filling, healthy and flavorful. A nice orderly and clean space. And they make the naan fresh just for you. Big fan. Great addition to the neighborhood.

It is harder and harder to find simple and affordable food in the Rockridge area. Jot Mahal has a homemade taste, prepared earnestly and with great care, in an area where unreasonable rent rates have caused food prices to explode. California needs good food prepared by real people who deserve to be in business and deserve to be part of your community. This is good food, the entrees are about $13, and the restaurant is clean with funky red walls and a TV playing Bollywood stuff-- which is perfect. Come to Jot Mahal and enjoy a decent meal that doesn't cost every limb on your body and support a local business run by nice people.Please put a couple more cubes of paneer in the palak. Much appreciated.

Authentic, the owner show a true passion in his cooking. It is not the Westernized dishes which we all come to know over there years. It feels like someone's home cooking with some real hits of spice and flavors. He is not shy with his katori (Indian spice box).It has the same feel of the Berkeley location but without the trek, a bonus!

So we didn't walk away raving, but solid food and felt satisfied. Hopefully the variety increases over time and they are able to up the ambiance game. It must be tough to start a restaurant in the area. Lunch buffet for $15 which is an amazing deal. If you love tikka masala you'll be so happy here. They had two types of tikka masala-one with paneer and one with chicken. Chicken tandoori, a dish with potatoes and cauliflower, rice, fresh made garlic or plain naan made to order, lentils, chutneys, a couple dessert items, and vegetarian pakora. Food tasted fresh and they checked regularly on the items and refilled. The service was good. I wish they had a station to put your dirty dish into if you go to grab a new dish to fill up again. They have things to sort out for sure, but that'll happen in time as long as they don't get complacent.

Jot Mahal's lunch buffet on Shattuck in North Berkeley has been a long time favorite, so it was great to see them opening closer to Oakland! Same great food, same great people. Boldly spiced dishes, nice family run business.The no-frills lunch buffet format is fast, practical, and tasty. While you make your plate, they make you fresh bread: the garlic naan stands up well against the flavorful dishes. There will always be something for everyone with a variety of classic chicken and vegetable curries, crowd-pleasing tikka masalas, with tandoori and veg pakora to round things out before desserts.

Came here for the lunch buffet and everything was amazing. I saw they had sugarcane in the kitchen and asked if they serve cane juice and they did! Got mine with some ginger and lime in it.
