Hidden gem of a restaurant in the Montclair neighborhood. They have a 20% off happy hour from 7-9pm which is perfect for picking up takeout after work. However, like most Indian restaurants, it's best eaten in. I ordered butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, and lamb vindaloo, with garlic naan. While the amount of meat was good in my order, I feel like the amount of sauce wasn't as plentiful compared to eating in. The chicken tikka was scrumptious, the lamb vindaloo was good (a bit sour for my taste), but the butter chicken was standout. Something notable is that all the entrees come with basmati rice!Restaurant is pretty small, but they work with what they have.Service is good, no complaints. The cashier also let me have the happy hour special at 6:57pm, so I didn't have to wait till it started at 7pm. (:Highly recommend trying this yummy local establishment!

"How about Indian?" I asked my daughter as we were wandering Montclair on a cold Saturday night. She gave me an enthusiastic yes and we set off to Himalayan Curry House. They do a brisk take out business here but we decided to eat in. Staff was very kind and the chicken tikka masala, rice, and naan (especially the naan) made my seven-year-old very happy. I might've liked a bit more spice in my curry but given my dining companion it was just right.

Hidden jewel in the East Bay. This place is one of our family's top pick, especially when we crave something more 'authentic' Indian- Northern Indian cuisine. Serving portion is pretty good too.

I came back here for takeout again and this time ordered and ate their spinach samosas, palak paneer, malai kofta, plain naan, and garlic naan. The palak paneer was quite salty. I did enjoy the samosas though and the malai kofta was satisfyingly rich and creamy. They didn't label the takeout containers/dishes so it was hard to tell from outside which one was malai kofta vs. lamb tikka masala, so I had to wait for the meat eaters in the group to try first to confirm which was which, so it'd be great for the future if the dishes could be labeled.

(Ordered thru Door Dash and cross-posted) ...Nothing in this order tasted like it should have. No care AT ALL taken in how it was prepared.Aloo Cauli looked like the gravy entombment pictured.Garlic Naan burntThe chicken in Chicken Tikka Masala was bland and chewyVegetable Samosa mostly just potatoes (also bland), and rice had no flavor (seemingly steamed out from over-cooking) ... it was like they created this order for Seniors on a restricted diet ... Horrible and equally so because my Hungry turned into Hangry ... NEVAH again!

Never order tandoori Roti from here you can hurt yourself with that roti. It's as sharp as a knife. My favorite used to be Malik Kota after their Malai kofta I don't like that anymore. The taste of everything was just very ordinary nothing like wow factor.

Himalayan Curry House is an Indian and Nepalese Restaurant in Oakland's Montclair Neighborhood.I order takeout from there periodically because they do a good job for a reasonable price. Their portions are pretty good and their entrees usually come with basmati rice.My wife an I typically order their:- Papadam- Garlic Naan- Vegetable Pekora - Fried veggie appetizer- Aloo Gobi - Potato and Cauliflower curry- Fish Vindaloo - which they do with SalmonTheir Mango Lassi is pretty good.Their medium spice level has a kick but isn't too strong.

Our favorite Indian take out in neighborhood. Their tikka chicken masala is wonderful and they'll make it mild - not spicy at all - for kids upon request. We've ordered over 20 times - delicious everything!

Not impressed. First time in, spent $ 40.00 on 2 dishes. Chicken Kabob was just sliced chicken (nothing else) !!!Second dish Chicken Masala was just a few pieces of chicken floating in a so so sauce. Total Bummer
