Half Moon Bay Wine & Cheese Company

I was wandering along Main Street when I came across this wine and cheese store. Their collection of wines, liquors, and gadgets was extremely fascinating but more importantly, they did tastings!!! The thing I loved about their tastings was the fact that each wine on the menu was priced for a 2 oz, 3 oz, 4 oz, and 6 oz pour. So you could really customize what you were drinking and how much. Our server, Pedro, was a lot of fun and we got the truffle chips to soak up some of the wine. These chips are addicting (sooo good!!)If I am ever in the area again I will be sure to go back!

I popped into this shop and looks like a GEM!! Picking up some cheese for a picnic, getting some beer/mini wine bottles, this place has it all. I wish I lived closed to do a tasting, but the place was packed on a Friday night, which you love to see. With all that said... the best thing about this place was the AMAZING wine selection on the wall to purchase. Unsure about the prices, but they had all the favorites (Sine Qua Non!!!!, Saxon Brown, Jax, Kosta Brown, Quintessa, DuMol, Williams Selyem) WOW. Take a peak next time your in the hood.

I stopped by after our group walked around looking at all of the neat shops nearby. Seems like they have a great variety of wines, cheese and even scotch whiskeys. The gentleman was really nice and shared what line up they had, along with a wine list. Unfortunately, I didn't have the time to get a glass as we had a lunch date for everyone. Really calm and quaint environment, with a wine cellar feeling. I'd definitely come back when im back in town.

Completely ignored! Stood by counter approx 5 min.. never acknowledged, never asked if wanted tasting, nada, nothing. What was especially odd about this is this occurred Thursday evening , there were two other parties at the counter seated and being helped. I stood less than 2 feet from bartender and nothing. Very disappointing...Hard pass!!

Always a must visit when shopping Downtown Half Moon Bay! This is a great shop with a wide variety of cheese, wine, charcuterie board accompaniments, and other fun drinking and snacking knickknacks. Usually when we come in it's just for a few minutes to peruse the cold cases as well as the fun gift items. On a recent visit we decided to stop in a little longer and enjoy the selection of wine and cheese plates they serve up at the wine bar.Glasses of wine were offered in 3 different sizes - a 2oz taste, 3oz half glass, and 6oz full glass. We ended up each getting a half glass of white wine and the classic cheese plate to go along with it. They had a large selections of wine by the glass and allowed us to each sample a wine before deciding on the one we wanted. Food menu was fairly small, but the cheese plate was the perfect nibble while we sipped. Excited to come back both just for the shopping and to come wine a little bit again.

This $19 champagne is delicious but def not 3oz. lol this biz needs to be more ethical.

Had a wonderful Saturday afternoon sampling wines with friends. Great service. Great selection.

Tried the red flight and the 2017 Mythic cab is delightful. Also like the deli choice with the duck liver mousse and truffle mousse. The outdoor seating is a bit limited and small as it's just on the side walk, not easy for a party bigger than 2.

We had high hopes for this cute little wine and cheese shop in downtown Half Moon Bay. We stopped in on a weekend midday. When we entered, it was not yet busy, but filled up pretty quickly once we sat.My husband and I ordered two red wine flights. The pours were generous, but our server really did not tell us anything about any of the wines. Wines are subjective and we can all get different aromas/tastes, but it would have been nice to have some explanation as to where the grapes came from, if a blend what varietals were used, etc. Once it got busier, we weren't really asked if we cared for anything else. Servers were friendly, but just not able to be very attentive. Since we were planning to visit Vinoteca as well, we decided to leave.They did have a nice selection of wines including some from pretty small producers I haven't seen outside a winery visit...for example Sans Liege from Paso Robles. I would stop in again and give them another chance.

HMB Wine & Cheese Company CA Sat 7/10/2021Went out for drinks at Half Moon Bay Wine & Cheese Company on a warm Saturday night in July 2021, after heat subsided and cool air breezed in. Absolutely love this place & frequented here pre-pandemic quite often, last visit just days before we all went into lockdown on March 19 in 2020.Always encountered the most amazing staff, and this visit was no exception - got to meet Kenny the bartender who made everyone warmly welcomed & he knows his wines!I love one Champagne here that is a Brut & although it's dry, it has slightly sweet notes. Kenny picked up right away on which bottle I had in mind, even before I could name the label - Richard Grant Cuvée Rosé Brut bubbles!I'll include below a bit of info/history about the name behind the label, it's quiet interesting, please read along.Turns out HMB Wine & Cheese never fully closed during Covid, they sold cheeses & bottled wines as before, if not even more.This Saturday night there was a couple from Wisconsin, celebrating her 30th birthday, and two locals. Emily used to work the bar here before moving on to a sales job in high tech. Chatted about past, present, and future throughout the night.Here's the coolest thing that happened and we all got into talking. You want a shot of vodka? I hear that and my senses sharpen, I'm laughing as I'm writing this. Who would say no to that?! Right?!The night went flawlessly from there, Shots for everyone!We stayed long after closing hours, encouraged by Kenny to enjoy for however long we desired. Just close the check, so he could do his cashier register magic. All the while catching up on life! As it should be at the bar:)Now about the wine, Richard Grant Pinot Noir Cuvée Rosé Brut. It's a dry sparkling with flavors of berries and pink grapefruit. Richard Grant Peterson, or simply Dick Peterson is quite influential in the California wine industry, who's name you probably never heard of. A scientist & inventor, he started in the late 1950s by bringing dry wines and bubbly to Gallo; then took over Beaulieu Vineyards from the legendary André Tchelistcheff. His Paterson Pallet invention is used all over the world - and he never obtained a patent or any compensation for it. He also created the first wine cooler. Shocked?!His two daughters are also well known in the industry, one, Holly was Chef & instructor at the Culinary Institute of America Greystone in St. Helena. Another, Heidi Barrett of La Sirena is the original winemaker who made cult labels like Screaming Eagle, Dalla Valle & Grace Family.And oh, the bells would start to ringWords came to my head and I would start to singWith the moon as the spotlightThat shines on meAnd the stars were the lighters in the airAnd the wind screaming loud sounded just like a crowdAnd I swore I was already thereI'd howl at the moonI'd howl at the moonRichard Grant Cuvée Rosé Brut bubbles!
