This is my favorite place to eat lunch or dinner. The food is always good, but pricey! I had the lunch special honey walnut prawns that came with soup, salad, egg roll and choice of rice. I was too hungry but took a picture halfway through my meal lol We also shared another lunch special kung pow chicken.Had to order to go for dinner as well got white rice and my favorite the salt and pepper fish when you bite into it its meaty. Not greasy. And that cost $30. It's not on the menu, but they will make it for you!The service is always great. Keep in mind if you have six or more people best to make reservations or you will have to wait a while. The place is clean. The bathrooms are clean. Can't go wrong with dining at this place.

Great China, where to begin. It's been so long since I've last had a meal here but last night for my dad's birthday, we knew just the place for a bit more elevated Chinese food in cool digs and of course, spacious enough to be baby friendly. We ordered pot stickers (fyi they have a note on the menu to allow 20 minutes to cook, they're super plump/juicy and I would say worth the wait), minced chicken with lettuce cups, Chinese string beans with beef & mushrooms, egg flower soup, walnut prawns, pork fried rice, and pork chow mein. I know, quite a feast, but already can't wait for cozy leftovers this afternoon.Having the baby in a high chair is new(er) for us, but he did just fine enjoying his chop (or drum) sticks, and the first tastes of tofu, broth, and other yummies. Everything we ordered was great ~ if you're into walnut prawns this dish is lightly breaded and fried and not in that typical mayonnaise sauce, rather almost an orange glaze. Loved the crisp string beans, buttery texture of the thinly sliced beef, and the shiitake mushroom flavor. The fried rice and chow mein are solid, and the minced chicken lettuce cups are my favorite around the East Bay. They don't skimp ya there! To note, they do have wine and spirits. Because we were a party less than 6, we couldn't make reservations. I suggest heading here upon opening ~ we arrived a little after 5:30p and they were already almost fully packed on a cold Wednesday evening. Worthy of a trip, leave time to find parking or drop someone off to put a name on the waitlist .

Great china is a more modern style of the traditional chinese banquet restaurant and does it well- the quality of ingredients is great and clean. Highlights are the pecking duck, walnut shrimp and zhen jiang spareribs! Duck is juicy, no fat with crispy skin accompanied by the thin crepe style wrap. Walnut shrimp is plump and perfect sweetness of sauce. Zhen jiang spareribs were crispy with sweet and sour sauce.

My friends have been telling me about this place for years so I thought I'd try it tonight...Yum! I ordered shrimp fried rice which was filled with giant prawns. I ordered potstickers and they were huge as well and quite tasty! I also ordered seafood dumplings which were good as well! For dessert I ordered some ube ice cream because I couldn't resist. This place is a little pricey even for delivery and my order arrive 30 minutes sooner than projected on the DoorDash map. Parking is always a little difficult in that area, which is why I got it for delivery well worth it if you don't feel like getting out there and asking with the traffic and parking most definitely I do over place delicious!

Had a family gathering at Great China and it was amazing! Everything from the food to service was great. The family ordered a number of dishes ranging from the Double Skin, Pork Pot Stickers, Mandarin Chicken Wings, Tang Soo Yook, Peking Duck, Walnut Prawns, Chow Mein, Fried Rice, Sauteed Crab Meat with Steamed Buns, and a few others. Everything was delicious, my recommendations would be the Chicken Wings, Peking Duck, Walnut Prawns, and the Sauteed Crab Meat with Steamed Buns! Only complaint I have is that some of the dishes came out in odd orders, such as the chicken wings coming out last; staff said the kitchen was backed up.Highly recommend checking them out for a more upscale Northern Chinese food experience. Definitely make reservations if you have a large party, as there was a line even before opening.

I came back to Great China after 8 years and had an amazing meal here, so wanted to bump my rating up to 5 stars.I really appreciated the ease of making a reservation. We had a party of 10 people, and it was a breeze to reserve a table. They're very used to large groups and even state on their Yelp reservations page that a table can seat up to 14 people. We tried a bunch of dishes since there were 10 of us. I've listed them below and marked my favorites with a *, and you can see there are a lot of them!* Double skin ($48.95 for large)Peking roast duck ($72.95) - make sure you ask for the bones to take home for soup/congee!* Ginger scallion crab with noodles ($88.95)* Ant climbed the tree ($25.95)* Kung pao chicken ($24.95)Mapo tofu - no pork ($20.95)* Garlic fried rice ($16.95)Zha jiang mian ($20.95) - my least favorite dish. It was super sweet. Wouldn't recommend unless you really like sweet noodlesThey actually ended up giving me a bunch of extra duck bones at the end, since I guess the other tables didn't want theirs. I came home with like 6-7 of them :D

Excellent experience. Peking duck was delicious and the skin was so crispy. Walnut prawns were light and crisp with a wonderful sauce. The hot and sour soup was one of the best I've had. Put this place on repeat!! FYI, it is a lively and happening spot, so not the best for quiet or romantic dinner conversation , but if you are here to grub, you've picked the right place.

Haven't returned here since the pandemic. Everything is pretty much the same. Service is pretty good, but it can be a little difficult to get the waiters' attention. Overall staff is very friendly and we were able to be seated right away. Food dishes are family style shareable and allow for a variety of different proteins and veggies. I recommend the Peking duck, salt and pepper shrimp, and surf clam.

I guess I'm old because I remember coming here before the renovation over a decade ago. I remember wondering if Great China would retain its fame for good food over the years, and it seems that it definitely has. If you want to impress your Chinese relatives, definitely bring them here. The interior still feels very modern and classy, but it's spacious and a welcoming space for small children as well. We really enjoyed all the food, especially the Peking duck that may need to be pre ordered.

Delicious dishes and the best walnut prawn I've ever had! I came here with a party of 8 which was perfect so we could try many dishes. Family style is the way to go here. Finding parking was a bit challenging but that is expected in Berkeley. The ambiance is perfect for a dinner with friends or a date night. We had reservations and we were seated about 15 minutes after we arrived. We got a drink at the bar while we waited. For the food we ordered various dishes:-Walnut Prawns 5/5! The best dish I had here. The prawns were big and juicy. The sauce had a sweet and tangy taste. It was perfection! -Peking Duck 4/5: This was very good, and the flavor was just right. I wish the pieces were a bit bigger, though. There were a lot of shredded pieces. -Chinese String Beans 5/5: This was another favorite. It had a great flavor and was perfectly cooked! It was everything I expected. -Spicy Calamari 5/5: delicious calamari! It was cooked and seasoned to perfection! -Black Bean Fish Fillet 4/5: this dish had a good flavor. We were not completely sold on the sauce though. I wouldn't order it again but for a personal preference. The dish is not bad. -Combination Fried Rice 5/5: This is a great dish and well-balanced! It's a must-order! -Mongolian Beef 3.5/5: Surprisingly, this was an okay dish. The beef's flavor and texture were okay, but not my favorite compared to other dishes.Overall, I 100% recommend this restaurant. Most of the dishes were delicious! This is the perfect place to come with a large group so you can taste various dishes. The portions are large and perfect for sharing.
