Pound for pound, one of the best bodegas in Oakland.Located in between the two Hopscotch spaces, on the same block as Belly, this market serves a mix of people living in Uptown, West Oakland, and interesting characters coming from the Greyhound station.Offering a large liquor, wine, and beer selection given the space; a deal of non-alcoholic drinks; an impressive amount of ice cream and confectioneries; suitable snacks for any tastes; standard groceries from sandwich meats and cheeses, frozen meals, bread, condiments, and hidden above cases and in the corners are other pantry items as well.I generally swing by when waiting for take out from Belly or Plenty, check out their collection of Kumbuchas, some Rap Snacks/Kettle Chips/or the 2 for $1 chip backs, maybe an ice cream, and try not to buy beer when I already have a bunch. What I also like about this place is the owner/manager/man behind the Plexiglas is great to talk to. Super chill, knows everyone in the neighborhood so he has news about what's going on.

This is my favorite bodega and has come in handy so many times where I've run out of something like baking soda, can of black beans, or even when I need to grab a snack and something to drink. The owner is always so friendly, warm and accommodating and he always recognizes a familiar face.

In Robert Frost's seminal poem "Mending Wall," we see two sides of the human spirit emerge as two neighbors attempt to repair a wall that divides their respective properties. The repetition of the proverb "good fences make good neighbors" by one of the men indicates one side; then we have the side of the narrator, constantly questioning the need for a wall at all. François Alexandre and his neighborhood convenience store, Fleuret's Market & Spirits, exist as a reminder that "good fences" cause poverty, war, hunger, ignorance, and intolerance. Through hard work, attention to others' needs, and genuine kindness, he has created a vibrant hub of neighborly activity in a neighborhood that otherwise would be severely divided along economic lines. For people that have limited mobility - either mechanically or personally - the area is a bit of a food desert and Alexandre goes out of his way to provide some healthy alternatives to the junk you find in other stores. Likewise, if you ever need something he does not have on hand, just let him know; he's more than happy to make sure he has it the next time you come in! But I'd be surprised, actually, if he doesn't already have it stocked."Good neighbors" are made by listening to someone else's story, telling yours, and respecting differences rather than fearing them. I'm truly proud to respond to Alexandre's *always* enthusiastic and inviting, "My Brother! How are you today?" by replying, "Very good! Thank you, Brother!"Pro-tip: get some Ben & Jerry's while you're there; it's going to be a hot summer!

This is a well stocked store they have beer, wine and spirits. They also have frozen items. I went in looking for a bottle of wine. Dave took his time and located several different bottles of Chardonnay. I walked out with 3 bottles of wine and 1 of tequila. Great customer service!

Since I live right across the street from this market, I had to finally walk in here. This place is alright. It reminds me of any old convenience store in the hood. Everything is expensive and overpriced, but you're paying for the convenience. With a bunch of prior planning, you can easily get everything here at BevMo, Trader Joes, Safeway, Luckys, etc. There really isn't any need to come in here. Do I really want a bag of cheetos that badly to need to walk over here? Do I need to buy singles of beer? I'd rather have my case of drank that I got from Costco. My guess is plenty of folks living around here feel the same way. With the revitalization of the uptown, this store seems out of place. I feel bad for them, maybe they'll change and adapt to accommodate the more yuppie clientele that is gentrifying the area. With that said, Good luck to you, Mr. Alexandre. I hope you find your niche and success.

If you're anything like me, you're the type that always roots for the underdog; the unappreciated, hardworking victor. After living in this neighborhood for just 3 months, my several interactions with Francois Alexandre have proved that his humble but well-stocked convenience store is the crème de la crème. Whether I need wine, beer, ice cream, toilet paper, hot pockets, lady items, I know Francois Alexandre's got me covered. So much so that he even gave me his business card explaining: "if you ever need anything I don't have, just call me and make a request." 7-11's never provided this kind of service. Be nice to this dude and his family. They're honest, hard-working people who cater to the most mundane and everyday interests with a genuine smile. Shopping experiences like this remind me this is the kind of service Yelp was built to acknowledge.

The kindest, loveliest people own this place. I came in one evening to get a snack and a good beer and the owner unlocked the door for me with a smile after I was too dumb to find the doorbell (it's on the door, not on the adjacent wall). I told them that I had only heard good things about the place and that just made them even kinder. They gave me their card and a free candy bar - best corner store in Oakland.

I moved into the neighborhood recently and am pleased to live so close to a great little market. Yes, prices are higher than a grocery store but let's be real, you're paying for the convenience. Pretty good selection and variety for a small space. If you're missing an ingredient, need to pick up something in a pinch, or need a late night snack or soda off hours (open until midnight!) they likely have you covered. Alexandre and his fam are super friendly and hospitable.
