There aren't many five-star places in my universe; El Charro Super Mercado is one of those amazing places because it delivers the highest-quality #keto chicharron con carne (think Mexican fried pork belly) at a price-point that makes it available to those who want to get healthy.Don't let its humble façade fool you: behind the shelves of import products and the new, large vegetables room in the back there lies a source of freshly-cooked meats to cheer carnivores. From the huge outdoor grill, on which you'll get the tastiest chicken, beef, and pork slabs, to the slightly-smaller bowl fryer in which the pork is double-cooked, the cooked meats from El Charro is superb. Trust me, I've eaten a lot of it.There's a store-length butchery counter with Mexican steaks, seafood, sausages, and more. Atop the counter you'll find take-away containers with crumbled pork rinds (from the most recent cook) which are a keto breading alternative; not to be missed.Parking lot along one side of the store, street parking, and only a few minutes walk from the Fruitvale BART station. Enjoy this Bay Area gem. It's in traveling far and wide that I've become aware of how special El Charro is, and how grateful I am for Hector and his staff. Gracias!

El Charro Super Mercado has only been here a few years. it's not "super" like other like named businesses: little produce, no alcohol, no house made pastries, just fresh meats, mex. groceries, spices, dairy products.the missing items can be sourced nearby.small parking lot. 2 food trucks in front.buys: a few "bimbo" pastries: concha...-has the usual bad fats, sugar, salts....not as good as house made.

Honestly I just came here just for the Chicharrones! They were pretty good. The service was also great. I was in and out in!

Stop in for high quality, affordable produce. Papaya's, avocados and dozens of other vegetables. This tiny gem feeds locals and passers by alike. 5 star quality, location and price. Community staple. 100% must go. Been going for 8 years.
