They cancelled the event in the last minute. I tried reaching out the owner to coordinate a visit and he was very unresponsive and made us anxious and nervous. Towards the end he cancelled the venue location as his staffs had Covid and they couldn't quarantine elsewhere. We totally understand what Covid can do but better communications would have helped us.Do not book this place

This is an unusual little wine tasting bar set inside the beautiful loft home of the owner and winemaker, Monty P. The two story space is in the artist housing colony out by the I-880 bypass in west Oakland, at the foot of Pine Street, called Pacific Cannery Lofts. The beautiful modern unit had been cleared for a special event, an intimate wine drinking party of about 2 -3 dozen people, starting with an intro art class upstairs led by Art a la Cart. http://www.yelp.com/biz/art-a-la-cart-oaklandEarly attendees (about a dozen) didn't do paint by the numbers, but a steep above that, learning to draw a scene, mix basic paints, and finish a small 8 x 11 canvas. Later everyone came downstairs to enjoy the delicious nibbles provided by the middle eastern caterer Faz. They were great, with hummus, olives, chicken satay skewers, and other delights.http://www.yelp.com/biz/faz-restaurant-and-bar-oakland The variety of wines were very good, both white and red from Paulson wineries, and the hosts were very engaging and seasoned entertainers. There was a live acoustic band trio called Melodious Monk ( I get confusedly the actual name because I think of the Jazz pioneer pianist, Thelonius Monk, which their name is a play off of).Good times had by all at this nice special wine tasting get together, an intimate event where art, conversation and wine were shared. The event was organized by the beautiful and effervescent event coordinator, Dominique.

Came to EBGB for a recent CMYE . . . That's "Yelp-ese for Community Manager Yelp Event" for those newbies to Yelp who may still be learning the Yelp-Lingo. Not sure what "EBGB" is short for . . . or what this business acronym stands for. However, one thing I can say is that "EBGB" did NOT give me the "hee-bee-gee-bies" . . . Quite the contrary, EBGB was a very friendly place indeed.Click here for a link to the CMYE:http://www.yelp.com/events/oakland-cmye-ebgb-the-underground-wine-barAnd here for some photos:http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.437018579665084.102856.205638892803055&type=1Our hosts were fun, upbeat, and welcoming! The Underground Wine Bar served up some very nice glasses of . . . ahem . . . Fine Wines!!! EBGB is decorated in a very modern and stylish decor, with some cool art that gives it an artsy feel . . . Also, a great place to come to nourish your right brain by participating in an art class by "Art a la Cart".EBGB is located in a two story loft townhouse within one of the newer buildings which has been constructed in Far West Oakland. I would not walk from BART to get here (for personal safety reasons), but it is easily reachable by car, or via a short taxi ride from BART(either West Oakland or 12th Street).

CMYE at an "underground?" wine bar? OK, I'm interested.EBGB The Underground Wine Bar isn't literally underground, of course. For me, the word "underground" when connected to a bar (even a wine bar) conjures up images of a Prohibition era themed establishment. It's not that, either.EBGB is just in a place you'd never imagine finding a wine bar. It's inside a live/ work corner unit in the Pacific Cannery Lofts. That's West Oakland, & yes, to get there you go through some rough neighborhoods.Once you find EBGB & go inside, it's really quite lovely with clean, modern decor throughout. For an example of the strange sort of observations I'm apt to make, I noticed this place has the absolute coolest restroom of any business I've ever been to. Really, it's worth checking out.As for the wine part of this wine bar, EBGB is the tasting room for Pat Paulsen wines & we were given a pretty decent selection of varietals to choose from. I stuck with reds & enjoyed everything I tried. For the CMYE, there was also an intro to painting class, a light snack table & live music. Thanks Nique F. for putting together yet another cool little event. Also, thanks to EBGB for being friendly & gracious hosts to us Yelpers. Good vibe, good wines, good times, EBGB The Underground Wine Bar is a cool little spot for all that.

Classy. That's the only word I could think of when I visited EBGB during a CMYE. Thanks to Nique, I have discovered yet another gem in the East Bay. The owners are super friendly, enthusiastic and nice.I loved learning to paint and brought home my very own canvas. I didn't think I did well but now that I've had time to sit and look at my artwork, I did a pretty decent job considering it was my first art lesson. It was well worth the $10!!!I loved the space chair and the modern decor of this place. I can easily see lots of artists and classy people hanging out here. It's intimate and tucked away so if you happen to be in the 'hood, definitely stop by sometime.

EBGB and it's owner Monty are a ton of fun. They've both gone from our local source for fantastic wines to a favorite hangout and a good friend. I can't recommend EBGB highly enough.

This place is completely whimsical and delightful. a sparkly trip to candyland. tucked away and completely discrete I would have never guessed this place contained so much awesomeness!the wines are FANTASTIC. sampled the pinot grigio, pinot noir, franc, chardonay and sauvingnon. (yes i hearts booze)all of them were beyond amazing. not only did they have a beautiful bouquet, but they all hit my pallet in interesting ways. kinda warped my mind. (which i loves)made me think of the pinot family in a whole new way. (thems me faves)also, they got me to try a sauv. (which in normally HATE. sorry pops.) but this one was awesome. and i would do it again. they had a generous spread of tasties to pair all the wines with. i tried them all. they were all amazeballs. i went back for seconds. (and thirds)hummous, cheese, na'an ...o! and they have painting classes!!!!! it was my first time. turns out, i have no talent. but they were all gracious and i have a neat lil memento of the night. in addition to buttons! the owners are precious. completely welcoming and inviting. got to talk wine and be silly and smile. the back patio is total zen. will be going here again. fer sheez.

Totally love this place. It's small. It's cute. It's intimate. It's friendly.... It's like a little secret that only a very few know about! haha No wonder they dubbed it the "Underground" wine bar! It's a cool place to hang out and chill with some friends. The owners are very friendly, enthusiastic and very funny!! Their music comes from a band who practices there - not that bad from what I heard!I prooobably wouldn't take Bart and walk here alone at night since the surrounding neighborhoods are not the greatest and it's like a 15 minute walk from the West Oakland bart station ... but there's plenty of parking right outside so driving is probably a good option.

tucked away deep in west oakland is a blossoming flower.EBGB -the underground wine bar is a great space to live in and to hold your events. the owners have have opened their home to create a social space for people to do some wine tasting, a place for bands to practice their music, or just gather and have a good ol time. which was exactly what we did.the night i went we were treated to an art lesson by -a la art. oil and canvas which brought the water color kid out of me. the art lesson was followed by a wonderful feast presented by FAZ a mediterranean restaurant that can be found in the heart of oakland as well as multiple other locations throughout the bay. they served a generous spread to try among which the chicken skewers and homemade giant potato chips were my favoritethere was also a local loft band that usually practices at EBGB playing live tunes which only added to the charm of the place.the decor of the modern stylish loft was accented with a hanging spherical seat straight from the furturistic 60's much to everyone's delight. until next time, cheers
