The vibes are perfect and the food is legit. My friends and I gathered here for our semi-regular "Eat Out Club," and had I not been looking for something new to eat in the Richmond area, I wouldn't have known there was a Mongolian spot without looking at the photos and menu - what a pleasant surprise! Would have thought this was one of many bay area restaurants with Dumpling in the name, lol. My vegetarian friend enjoyed the veggie momos, stir fried noodles and Borsht (usually contains meat but they made it veggie upon request). The rest of our party also got beef Khuushuur (like a big fried wonton with spiced meat inside) and lamb momos. My friends really enjoyed the unlimited salty milk tea as it was cold outside. The portions are super generous. The food is what I would describe as simple and nourishing - not overly spiced, soft, served hot. Loved every minute and I will definitely be back for big plate chicken!

Easy to overlook, tucked between other small businesses. The parking spots are limited but don't let it steer you away from trying some good food. Very small establishment with a roughly seven tables . I had the SHAPTA PLATE : consist of four elements . 1. A regular salad with a dressing similar profile to ranch. This salad is not Mongolian . 2. Standard steam rice 3. This is a fusion between a steamed bun and a butter biscuit. The main start 4. Spicy beef with Szechuan peppers. Interesting fact : Szechuan peppers, originate from Tibet and of Bhutan. Overall : Dumpling house is closer to a fusion style, Mongolian restaurant not directly traditional:) still, very good flavor.

Always our go to spot for good food, service and price . If you have not yet tried this location please go. Parking is hard to find and they don't serve alcohol beverages. But who needs it.

After a meeting today, I had a hankering for dumplings and ordered the lamb manti. These football-shaped buuz (large Mongolian dumplings, as opposed to the smaller bansh) are succulent lamb meatballs tucked cosily inside an al dente wrapper. They and the round beef momo, which I got last autumn, go great with hot sauce and come with a side of cabbage salad. Devote up to 20 minutes for these -- they are worth it! I always take half of my order home, because 1) they're filling as they should be, and 2) free meal in my fridge next day!:-) The owners are wonderful people. I am grateful to have met Maya and her aunt Erika, who works hard to make hearty dishes that call me back for more!

I quickly bookmarked this place after reading a KQED article that there was an authentic Mongolian restaurant in the Bay Area. I had also recently watched YouTube videos of Sonny - Best Ever Food Review Show channel and fame on a recent series of videos where he indulged in the fascinating, traditional and everyday food of Mongolians. I murmured to myself that I would never get to experience these flavors. Lo and behold, the article pops-up in my feed as if Big Brother has been monitoring all my social media activities. Located on San Pablo Ave. between Macdonald Ave. and Barret Ave. in an unassuming mini strip mall tucked in a corner next to a Vietnamese restaurant. It's not a place where one would normally gravitate towards, but it's inviting, nonetheless. After convincing the wifey to dine here, I felt a positive energy as we entered, and a good sign when all of the people dining there at that time were all speaking their native tongue of Mongolia. There are pictures of the food displayed on the top of the dining walls for visual reference, and it was definitely helpful. Just don't ask me how to pronounce some of 'em as I will certainly butcher it. There was a wonderful aroma wafting in the air that I was unfamiliar with, but it was definitely intriguing. Of course, I asked for recommendations and the server suggested the Beef Khuushuur ($12.99) for starters. She didn't have to tell me twice, and we also ordered the 'Lamb Dumpling' (small 20 pieces $12.99) and 'Momo Soup' (beef clear soup with dumplings $12.99) to share. I noticed that the diners were also sipping what I initially thought was tea. I asked the server and replied that it was hot milk. I asked for one and she said that they were complimentary, and I was more than welcome to get them at the self-serve station. One sip of the hot milk was definitely unexpected as it had a salty flavor similar to yogurt. It was a welcome drink on a cold day and it will certainly warm you up. The 'Beef Khuushuur' arrived first and it had a doughy and crispy exterior texture filled with assorted vegetables and minced/ground beef that was certainly a delight to eat. I wouldn't compare it to an empanada, but more like Hot Pockets but a million times better. The 'Lamb Dumplings' were still hot and filled with juicy goodness that will burn your tongue if you don't wait to cool 'em off before popping them in your mouth. The flavor of the lamb just hits right, and the texture of the skin was well-balanced consistency and ratio. And last but not least, the 'Momo Soup' was just utterly delicious as the clear broth was full of flavor without being overly salty, and it was a perfect dish to warm us up on a cold day. Heck, I'd even slurp that broth on a hot day, rainy day, morning, afternoon, night or any day whatsoever. The beef dumplings inside the soup were in perfect harmony with the whole dish as we enjoyed every bite and sip of the soup. But let's talk about the chili sauce. I would highly recommend adding the chili sauce to all the dishes to give it that extra kick and oomph. If you're not a fan of spicy dishes, just add a little dab. But this thing was like crack and I wanted to take a whole bottle home with me. Next time we're coming here, I'm bringing my friends and order the 'Lamb Khorkhog' as you gotta order that at least one hour in advance so they can prep it.

The food is 3 stars but the service/misleading menu brings it down to 2 stars. The dumpling section does not distinguish between pan-fried or deep fried. I really wanted pan-fried bansh (chicken dumplings). Both Kkhuushuur chicken dumplings and bansh can be fried but Khuushuur is only deep-fried. I asked the waitress for stir-fried dumplings and got the deep fried Khuushuur. The dumplings were bland but fresh. It needed sauce but it only came with chili oil which was quite bitter. Adding bitter oil to a bland fried chicken dumpling just gets you a bitter dumpling. Khuushuur which looks like an Empanada has about a quarter of the filling so it's basically an empty pocket of fried dough. The dough is very light so it's not satisfying. They raised the prices from the menu. It used to be 11.99 for five but now it's 14 dollars for five. When you add all the filling up, you're getting one empanada's worth of meat for 14 dollars but the problem gets worse, there's no sauce so there's no flavor either.I tried my friend's lamb dumpling and it was a bit rubbery and not very flavorful and the dough was flimsy and broke apart easily leaving you a chunk of rubbery lamb. There's no accompanying sauce either so you use a bit of generic soy sauce to flavor the dumplings. They should offer you chopsticks since forks break the dumpling skin apart and the juices leak out leaving a dry piece of meat behind. Also, there's no service whatsoever. When you come into the restaurant, it's completely empty. You have to go to the kitchen in the back and call someone. This is how we got any service from the beginning till the end of our stay because they don't check on you.We were never offered water. After ordering my food, I waited for water but it never came. We were not told to help ourselves to two heated dispensers in the back that held salty milk. The liquid tasted like powdered milk mixed with lots of salt. There was no description of the drink in front of the dispenser. Being thirsty and unable to find anyone inside the dining room, I helped myself to a glass of salty milk water which made me more thirsty. My friend bought herself a huge cup of Boba tea for five dollars. The food is fresh and the cabbage slaw (side dish) was good but the flavors and value is simply lacking. Service was very poor, communication poor and the menu is not clear. Both my friend and I are not coming back again.

This restaurant is our regular favorite to go out dine in. Best Traditional Mongolian food, our orders are always buuz, bug buuz, tsuivan and baadmiin huushuur. Recommend you ask to try all their dishes and milk tea (do not mix it up with boba milk tea). To go orders are prepared fresh very quickly with friendly services.

Mglian tsuiwan yummy with traditional tea. I like to eat over there. Very friendly service and nice ambiance. Better than any other dumpling house. I'ld say just TRY ONE TIME.
