First time here and happy we tried it! Loved the ambiance! Great service ! TIP: don't compare it to "typical" chinese food. Prepared with high-quality ingredients, no MSG, and you don't leave feeling greasy or puffy from sodium.Appetizers:Dumplings with chili sauce - hubby and I enjoyed them. I was not a fan of the sauce. It wasn't too spicy but it had a flavor I didn't love. I might ask again without or with a different sauce.Egg drop soup: fresh, light, and warming. my tastebuds wanted a little more salt. added a little soy sauce and it was delicious.Honey Walnut Prawns: probably the best I've ever had! The light crispy coating, perfectly cooked prawns, just enough sauce drizzled on. Yum!Wagyu Beef & Broccoli: hubby ordered this and loved it! I tasted the beef and it melted in your mouth, as other reviewers have said.Garlic String Beans: these were awesome too! Cook just right!portions aren't huge. Price is a bit more expensive than a place like panda express, but that is comparing apples to oranges. If you want Chinese food prepared in a lighter, less greasy, healthier with high quality ingredients, highly recommend this place!

On this rainy evening, we decided to try Donhao Modern Cuisine. We ordered spicy wontons, mom's pan-fried dumplings, wagyu beef with broccoli, a combination chow mein, jasmine white rice, and brown sugar panna cotta. We were pleasantly surprised by every dish containing animal protein. The meat was tender and succulent, a remarkable feat because it is easy to overcook the meat, which would have made it harder to chew and less enjoyable. The service was friendly, and the restaurant was clean. Ample parking on this night.

This place has the best Chinese food around - I love the orange chicken, broccoli beef, and tofu dish. The downside is the portions are so small! I wish they could put takeout in normal Chinese food takeout containers. It's also very expensive. We spent a hundred dollars and barely fed 3 people that don't eat a lot. I hope they will consider increasing portions size - everything else is great!

Wow, the universe was really listening with this one. For months I have been asking my friends and family "where can I find some really good Chinese food"? And boom Donhao delivered. We were celebrating a birthday so we damn near ordered everything on the menu ( we didn't but it felt like it ). The service was super on point thanks to our host/waiter Christian. He was super cool and patient with us. Ambience is cool, there's a little music playing in the background but nothing outrageous. I really like this place. It is a little pricey in comparison to your average Chinese food spot, but it's worth it. Maybe not ALL the time but every now and then. The waygu beef and broccoli, chow mein ( prob one of the better ones I've had in a very long time), salt and pepper fish , veggie spring rolls, salt and pepper prawns just to name a few items. All in all the food doesn't feel greasy or leave you with that heavy feeling after eating. It was fresh and well made. I will definitely be coming back.

Attentive waitstaff and healthy Chinese food just like the reviews espouse. No brown rice available. "Spicy" wontons are flavored lightly with peppercorn but hardly spicy at all. We had the breaded salt and pepper fish which tasted healthy. We also had a chef's special medley of eggplant, green beans, onions and red peppers that was fresh, green beans were crispy, and not oily. The Wagyu Mongolian beef won the approval from my husband and son. The chicken fried rice was light and hardly oily. High vaulted ceiling give the feeling of a huge crowd as conversations are amplified and loud. Probably not the best place to bring our hearing impaired grandpa. Vegetarian options available. Oh and four stars because despite all the healthiness we went there for, it left me craving for the comforting oil saturated MSG laden Americanized fried food from our favorite local Chinese restaurant. :D

Donhao is a modern-looking Chinese restaurant replacing the previous, upscale Japanese place Kaori in the Danville Livery. I took my wife here for a lunch date and of course, she's extremely picky when it comes to Chinese food. Chinese food can surprisingly be cheap yet delicious, and some of our best meals are from hole-in-wall establishments or places. Her initial skepticism was whether this will be a Panda Express or PF Chang with inflated prices for the ambiance and location. To justify the prices, Donhao uses Mary's Organic Chicken and American Wagyu as ingredients. Service was a bit slow when we visited - we had to help ourselves to the menus. Surprisingly we got our food quickly, while the elderly couple next to us was waiting over 45 minutes! The food is decent. Chili Oil Wontons were excellent - super smooth skins, juicy fillings, and they nailed the oily sauce with a balance of chili pepper spiciness, sweetness, and mouth-numbing Sichuan peppercorns. (5 stars). The other appetizer we got were the pork baos, like a mini-sandwich, analogous to how Peking Duck is frequently served at banquets. Their lunch specials are in the form of Bento Boxes. I liked my Organic Orange Chicken, although to be frank I can't really distinguish organic from non-organic chicken tastewise. My wife had Beef and Broccoli which was decent. Their side dishes were good, especially the egg-flower soup loaded with scallion flavor. Overall a decent showing, and I can tell they really tried to elevate Chinese food while having pleasant outdoor ambiance. They also have a dessert menu and probably an alcohol menu too.

A group of us went to Donhao for lunch and decided to eat family style. We ordered 6 dishes and thought that was going to be too much food for four people. It ended up being just the right amount. The servings were about medium sized. We ordered pan fried dumplings, won ton soup, the fried fish with almonds with a light sauce with a slight hint of heat, beef with string beans, chow mein and orange chicken. Our favorite was the won ton soup which was very flavorful and refreshing, the fish had a excellent crunch, light, flakey and not doused in sauce, dumpling were pan fried perfectly with that nice brown, chow mein had great noodles, not too fat and had a very fresh flavor, beef was okay, unique flavor and the orange chicken was very healthy with a fluffy coating. The service was quick and good. They checked on us and kept our water full.We will definitely go back and bring friends too. For very fresh ingredients and flavors, stop by Donhao and treat yourself. I'm looking forward to trying the walnut prawns next time.

The food here is really delicious and you can taste the freshness. However, I took a star off because it didn't live up to the hype in the newspaper article I read on this new restaurant and in some of the Yelp reviews. Yes, the food is done very nicely but it really is a Chinese restaurant geared towards Western tastes and expectations, rather than authentic Chinese. There were no Asians there for dinner either as patrons or even on the staff! That's OK, maybe that will change. The dishes were slightly salty also.On the plus side, it really is a very health conscious place, the food is so fresh with healthy ingredients and the fried items were not greasy at all. The Wagyu beef was so tender and melted in your mouth. Service was great also!

The food and service inside was wonderful. Our server, Rex, was an absolute gem. He was friendly, attentive, polite, and constantly checked in to see if we were enjoying or needed anything. Rex actually saved the whole experience because it started off on a sour note because of the host at the podium at the front of the restaurant. The food was delicious as usual, although I will say that they are not consistent with portioning. We get a different amount of proteins every time we go and when I see pictures other people have posted. We got much less protein (wagyu beef and shrimp) than we have gotten in the past. The one thing I want to address is the treatment by the gentleman at the host podium. I don't know it was a lack of training, him being ageist because we are younger, or just outright racism. We were there at 4:50pm before they opened at 5:00pm. We stood politely in front of the podium (but not right next to it), and waited for it to turn 5pm because we didn't want to bother anyone before they actually open. He ignored us, but when a group of 4 of much older looking people came much later than us, he addressed them immediately and asked them if they had a reservation. They said they did at 5pm. He said they open in a couple minutes. I finally just had to speak and say we have a reservation at 5pm as well even though we had been standing there the whole time. Who did he seat first? Of course, the older white group of 4. Again, I don't know if it's because he assumed they'll tip better, or that they were white, or that they're a bigger party than our party of 2, or that they were much older than us, but it is definitely a lack of manners. I do have to comment, our little party of two ordered much more than that party of four (we ordered 7 entree dishes dine in and then 6 additional entree dishes for a to-go order) and we tipped almost 25%. The host shouldn't treat people differently based on appearance or the amount of people in the group.
