Great selection of homemade desserts, I tried the chocolate cookie and the baklava so far and it's honestly 10/10. The cookie alone is perfect, not too sweet. They also have coffee.

Dessert & Spice opened where The Butcher's Son once was. Sparse decor. Seating limited to 2 tables, chairs next to windows. Service quick & cordial as friendly associate gave a quick tour of what was available: french type pastries, pie/cake slices, cookie, cupcake, croffles, samosas, turkish cake slices, drinks. No prices posted. Took it to go. Traveled reasonable well. Pie shifted slightly.Bites: key lime pie (7.99?)-looked the usual. Flavors the same just in different locations. Graham crust buttery & flaky, filling tart with custardness. -whipped cream firm not soft-had lime flavorHoney cake (7) bigger than Yemen version. Turkish-alternating layers of buttercream & subtle honey flavors embedded in chiffon like layer cake. Yum!*Russian version is more well known.Baklava (comped) turkish version-top has many thin layers of baked crunchy phylloLayers of pistachio embedded phyllo in middle. Bottom is same as top. Entirety is drenched with honey. Deliz but messy re: excess honey4.5 stars preference for Turkish cakes. Unknown if milk cake travels well. Others didn't re milk content.

I had a sweet tooth after an event and found this dessert place on yelp. I drove over to this place and when I entered I was greeted by staff. The staff were very friendly and polite. I selected 2 chocolate chip cookies, 1 red velvet cookie and snickerdoodle cookie. The chocolate chip cookie was the start of the show. The cookie was moist, gooey in the middle and very flavorful. The red velvet cookie was also moist and flavorful. The snickerdoodle cookie had too much sugar on the cookie for me. The ambiance was very customer friendly and a nice place to go grab a good tasty dessert.

I was intrigued by the new business and the name, but was hoping for more unusual/experimental pastries. Most of the offerings were pretty expensive French style pastries that looked "ok". When I am in the mood for a dessert, I want a thick cookie or an non-French flavored concoction like cardamom and rose. You'd think with spice in the name the options would have spices beyond sugar and chocolate? I ordered a small upside down pineapple cake for $6, and while it was tasty, nothing else enticed me enough to want to come back. Lastly, it's situated in a gorgeous historical brick building but I wish the business would lean into that decor with like art deco or old Hollywood or Moroccan vibe - the current bare pastry cases is giving ghost kitchen. Logistics:- indoor seating only - limited street parking nearby; a few paid public garages nearby; plenty of public transit options - did not see any GF options

Love their desserts especially the honey cake! They also have savory pastries which are rare in most bakeries around here.

Sorry, whether CAL is on Spring Break or not, your pastries should be fresh. If it's slow, bake less. This is a location that has a lot of turnovers. For some reason, businesses don't last here. However, a bakery is NOT going to make it here with cases and cases of pastries that are not fresh. The place was empty for a while. I was sitting across the street conducting other business before I decided to check it out. I took my time and looked around because there was so much to offer. I purchased two cookies, and both were hard as rocks. Not a good sign, folks. Being a baker, I certainly know when a pastry has gone way past its expiration date. What gives with places like this; they treat us as if we don't know the difference between fresh and stale. All the good reviews must have happened on a day the pastries were made fresh that day or before the bakeries "sell by date."Dissapointed.

THIS PLACE IS GOING UNDEROverpriced. Quality: meh quality. Paid $4 for a chocolate chip cookie. It didn't even have nuts, and it was kind of doughy, i.e., too much flour and improperly baked. It wasn't awful or anything, and there were some other things that looked OK, but everything was WAAY OVERPRICED. The people who ran the place seemed unenthusiastic. Place was poorly laid out, and it looked like they had scant business. No coffee or bevs, which you'd think would be a no-brainer for a place like this. The only other bakery I know that charges this level of prices is the Feelgood Bakery in Alameda, but IT IS TOTALLY WORTH IT. Actually, Feelgood doesn't even charge as much as Dessert & Spice. D&S has slices of cheesecake and creme brulee and whatnot for, like, $8. Macarons are $2.50, I believe, for a dinky little cookie. This is even more than Whole Foods charges. You know you got problems if your prices are higher than Whole Foods. I didn't try any of this. Maybe it's fantastic, but I will never know. This place is going under. Soon. Guaranteed.

Omg desserts were AMAZING! We randomly walked by this place and they said they just opened. Server was sweet and friendly. There was seating inside with not only desserts but they had coffee drinks! Ambiance was peaceful and quiet. Definitely would come back!

First time here. I was craving Dubai chocolate and decided to give it a try. The chocolate itself is a pretty small size for the price, $10. It looks good but unfortunately it does not have the same taste as a Dubai chocolate bar. The pistachio butter flavor is nonexistent and the kadayif isn't as crunchy as I believed it should be. The chocolate itself is pretty average taste but the presentation is good. Satisfies the craving of chocolate but not of Dubai chocolate.

OMG, my husband surprised me with some slices from Dessert & Spice-they were so good! I think he got the Chocolate Mousse Cake and Chocolate Torte (as well as some veggie samosas). Everything was delicious. Sorry, I didn't take a photo because we devoured them. He works close by, so I'm hoping he goes back.
