D & K is medium sized chinese supermarket in Oakland Chinatown. It carries a variety of fresh produce, fresh meat, dry goods and packaged foods. There's not very much candy, snacks or dairy here. It seems to be common items your everyday Chinatown shopper would want to buy. This store is easy to spot as it has a large outdoor display of fresh fruits and veggies. Everything has a price marker, with the label in chinese. I don't read chinese, so I learned to ID favorite vegetables like Gai Lan and Bok Choy. I mainly come to this store for it's produce and dry goods. The produce is usually a little cheaper than the regular supermarket. I have never purchased any fresh meat here. Today, I came here looking for a jar of pickled ginger. But they didn't have any, so I just grabbed some pre-packaged chinese broccoli (Gai Lan). I had to go look elsewhere for my pickled ginger. What's it for? I eat hardboiled eggs with pickled ginger. If you're from an old school Chinese family, then you attended a Red Egg and Ginger party. It's the ancient custom of celebrating the 1 month birthday of a newborn child. Details: https://www.redeggandgingerparty.com/etiquette/Anyway, D & K Market doesn't carry pickled ginger. But it does have a variety of asian goods for cooking such as sauce and dry ingredients. The staff mainly speak chinese. On April 2022, mask wear preferred inside store. Street parking.

D & K Market is one amongst a dozen or so shops in chinatown that carry a variety of fresh pork, fresh chinese veggies/fruits, canned spices, noodles.a distinguishing sign is the produce cartons protruding onto the sidewalk. veggie/fruit selection is greater here. prices seem a bi higher. higher quality?snacks are not heavily stocked here. eats: fresh dan dan mein (1.79) 3 pack-not expecting much, just backup eats.notes"-store is really cramped.-no lines midafternoon.
