I've been meaning to write this review for a while now! I usually order through DoorDash delivery, but I picked up my food in person about a week ago. A friendly woman greeted me (I didn't catch her name), but I told her how much I loved their food when she returned with my order. She thanked me a ton, but I thanked her for the service and the amazing food, and I'm always happy to support small businesses! There aren't too many Caribbean places in the Bay Area, but this one has quickly become my favorite. I always get the spicy jerk chicken with rice and plantains, and it's delicious every time. The chicken is well seasoned, with just enough sauce and spice. The rice is always cooked perfectly, and the plantains are sweet and tasty. The portion sizes are generous, so it's a filling meal.I highly recommend checking this place out if you're in the area. The food is savory and flavorful, and the staff is friendly.

I want to start this review by saying my standards for Trini food may be somewhat high considering I've had it in Trinidad, NY, and home cooked. I love Trini food and I really wanted to love this place. On the positive, it's a cute counter service restaurant with some outdoor seating. The staff is incredibly welcoming and friendly. Food wise, I was sorely disappointed. The bara was cold and too thick/cakey for traditional bara. The chana wasn't very flavorful and a bit watery, not enough pepper sauce. The goat was cooked very nicely, but hardly any curry and the roti was more bready like naan than roti. The beef patty was nicely seasoned, but pretty dry and thin. All that being said they also do juices and I think that might be their sweet spot. The sorrel was spot on.

9/20/2024-Where do I begin... First off- the owner is very nice and everything is authentic..My oldest had visited here a few weeks ago at the Vegan Festival..I have never had oxtail in a Caribbean restaurant..Omg-... so tender and very flavorful-..the cost of $22 was well worth every oxtail!I couldn't even finish.. with three o tails remaining.Red beans and rice was good along with the plantains..Curry chicken and curry chicken was very good!We also got the sour sop and the calm-are..really yummy!Definitely would come back, even from Reno!

Trinidadian food in the bay? Yes! My husband is trini so this was a must go. It's hard to compare this to the cooking of my mother in law who still lives in Trinidad but this is the only restaurant to have doubles, roti, etc. if you've never had trini food I recommend to try it! I've always been one to try anything once. The owner is friendly and goes back to Trinidad often and comes back to it lots of spices, etc for the menu.

I came across this restaurant in the Too Good To Go app, and happened to be looking for a lunch place with friends a week later. Since one of my friends is vegan, and this place had a lot of vegan options, I suggested it. It turned out it was on her list to try, so we decided to try it out. We were able to make reservations for our large group of 9, but did not realize that seating was outdoor only. It seems like they are better equipped for take out. It was pretty sunny that day, but also a bit windy, so the umbrellas that they had to provide shade blew over. Plates and utensils used were all the nicer disposable kind. The staff were friendly, and the owner (I think) even gave each mom an island straw hat for Mother's Day. As for the food, I ordered the goat roti. I thought the flavor was good, but not amazing. The roti was a bit too dense for my taste. Maybe it's different from others, but I thought it would be more layered vs doughy. They had a few juice options and don't have any sodas on the menu, which I thought was a nice healthy touch, but didn't work well for my kid who was looking forward to the rare instance where she was allowed to have a soda. The portions were generous, and feedback from my friends who ordered other things was positive. Service did take a long time even for our drinks to arrive at the table. Overall, this place is a good place for Caribbean food, but I would recommend coming here for take out vs dine in.

Coco breeze has been on my bucket list for some time. I was nearby in Berkeley today, and decided to stop by for lunch. The outside and inside of the restaurant is very colorful! I walked into some reggae jams booming through the speakers. Street par-tay!!! Let's get it!!:)There's no space to eat in. They do offer some table space outside to eat, if you want to enjoy your food while you're there. The young man at the window was pleasant and helpful. He honored the Yelp discount to get $5 off ($20 order minimum).I ordered the braised oxtails, served with red beans and rice, and a side salad; Acra saltfish fritters (entree). The food was all packaged up to go. But, I was able to smell everything through the bag. I had to take my food outside and enjoy it at a table with an umbrella. The food had a hold on me, y'all!! I couldn't wait!Braided oxtails- AbSOULutely delicious!! The meat was juicy, tender and was falling off those bones. Ooohhhhh wee!! It did not disappoint!Red beans & rice- Very generous portion that I did not expect, but, definitely appreciated!! It was flavorful. It came with sliced plantains and a pretty flower for some decor. :)Saltfish fritters- I got in trouble with those. I cannot lie :) They were packed in 2 paper bags. They were round, fried well seasoned balls of fish. None of them were salty, the fish was flavorful and flaky, and those cute balls were fluffy!!! I honestly ate them all up before going back to my car. Everything else, I was saving as leftovers. They are delicious in their own..dipping them in sauce just takes them to a whole other dimension of deliciousness. Whew! Where have these been all my life?!?!?I more than enjoyed my experience at Coco breeze. The staff was awesome (forgot to mention, that one of the staff let me know that my food will be coming out next while I was waiting), food was divine (they certainly poured a lot of love and soul in making my meal and it showed and tasted like it!). I will certainly be back!! I'm already figuring out my order for my next trip. :)See ya soon!!

We came by again the other night for jerk chicken with pelau rice, curry chicken with pelau rice, fried plantains, pholourie, and curry tofu. Hearty stuff with an exceptionally friendly FOH; I hope that this place will be able to expand in the near future. The pelau and plantains are solid. The curry chicken is good. The jerk chicken might test spice novices, but only towards the end; the initial bites are of a nice darkness which I wish I had another serving of rice to pair with. But these we've had before; the new bits were the curry tofu of interesting texture (very much like fish cakes). I don't know what they do to this. I want more. And then there's pholourie--split pea fritters masquerading as donut holes paired with a zingy, mildly spicy tamarind sauce. (The sauce also goes well with the plantains.) That sauce also has cilantro, for those cursed with that soap gene. Great balance, good cuts of the heavier fried bit; nice and soft inside, but not falling into the soggy doughy trap (thank the peas and the food made to order).

Food: Everything was good. The curry chicken was tender. Be careful of the broken bones though. The rice was a pleasant surprise. I've never had rice with jalapeños. It gave the rice a nice kick and flavor. Although I'm not a fan of peas and carrots the veggie Patty was soft, flaky and yummy. This order was placed through the TooGoodToGo app. I feel I got more than my monies worth even with it being a surprise meal I was content. Service: The staff are very friendly. Greeted immediately and kept informed on my order status. Ambiance: It's a very cozy spot. Indoor seating is limited for one table of two. There are a couple high tables outside in front. There's also culture appropriate music playing via a large speaker outside. I'm interested in exploring other items on the menu. Check them out if you are in the area.

So glad we finally got the chance to try this spot! When we went, the music was on and the vibes were nice! They had some tables set up outside with decorative flags and a speaker outside with the jams. The people working the counter were patient and pleasant as we had questions about ingredients due to allergens. I got an oxtail combo with peas and rice and my husband got oxtail and curry goat with veggie rice. We also got a chicken and a beef patty, a sorrel drink, and a piña colada cupcake. The beef and chicken patties were the star of the show. The outside was flaky and soft, while the inside was so flavorful! The sorrel drink was also so good! It had a slightly spiced taste with hints of vanilla and sweet fruit. I would definitely get that again. I accidentally grabbed a vegan cupcake, which I didn't have a problem with except that the icing tasted a bit chemically. I find that happens sometimes with vegan substitutes and it could be that I am just not used to it. The cupcake itself had a good crumbly texture and was moist and definitely tasted like piña colada. Overall the food was flavorful and I appreciated the portion size for the price. They didn't skimp on the oxtails at all. We had enough food for one of us to have a second meal the next day.
