I ordered yellow curry chicken, the waiter brought the dish, with very little chicken and a lot of curry. He took the dish back to the kitchen, the chef advised him, they were trying something different by measuring this portion.Being a long time customer to be happy to make him happy, I would have hoped more chicken would have been added. My food as usual was great. The waiter was great and understood.

A friend recommended this restaurant and we finally had a chance to try it. My husband and I went to squeeze in a date night into our kid chauffering duties. We've been to many Thai restaurants in the area, and Chai Thai was exceptional. They had a good knowledge of gluten free items which is important for me to give it a good review. Additionally, the service, food and ambience were excellent. We got extra food at the end to take home to our kids and they really enjoyed it too!

Picked up two dishes from Chai Thai today - a red curry with rice and a pad see ew. A few things to note... everything was piping hot - love that my takeout was so fresh, even upon getting home! Also, everything was full of flavor and a good size portion - hooray!! There are a lot of Thai options in Berkeley and Oakland - I'd put this one high up there! Yum yum. I've never sat down to eat here but the atmosphere looked nice - will make it a priority to dine in soon!

Called in to make an order for pick up and the process was easy. Upon arriving there is no parking/very very limited street parking right in front so be aware of that if you do come. Luckily we came on a Tuesday evening to just pick up so we got lucky. Items we ordered: - Crispy Shrimp & Calamari: This was very tasty and savory! Even for pick up the items were still very crispy. This was a great starter.- Panang Curry w/ crispy duck: This was so delicious!! The curry of course had a nice touch of heat, but not overbearing at all, and of course nutty and sweet from the coconut base. I love how they put the crispy duck on the side/in a separate container to keep the duck crispy which we appreciated. This dish also came with a box of rice as well. -Pad See Ew w/ Beef: This was also a great choice. The noodles had a great texture and flavor and the meat was tender as well. - BBQ Pork: This was so yummy! The meat was very tender and flavorful! Overall, this was a hit, especially for being take-out too! We ended up having leftovers which is great because when we first picked up our order it didn't look like a lot of food but it was filling. Definitely will be back.

Interior is beautiful. Best looking thai restaurant I've been to. Service is quick and friendly.Doesn't fare well when it comes to food. Tom kha soup - great flavor, too salty.Pad kee mao - flavor was ok, it didn't have the much-needed wok-hei. But the problem is, it was too oily. Oil was dripping on the plate and spoons.Pad thai - again, decent flavor, but very very oily. Noodles should be coated in the sauce, not in oil. There should be more protein/veggies in the noodles dishes. There were only 4 pieces of tofu and a few carrots.I looked closely at other review photos and the dishes look non-oily in some photos. I guess it's a hit or miss then.

We were excited to try this place out - had seen it in the neighborhood. We ordered a fresh roll with shrimp and avocado and a pumpkin curry. The food was fine - the curry sauce was nice, but the kabocha squash was too undercooked to enjoy. If it had only been that, I wouldn't have bothered to write a review, although I probably wouldn't have gone again, since there are so many other great Thai restaurants around. We got the bill and paid, but as we were waiting for them to run the credit card, I noticed that the charge for the curry was $20.95, and felt sure that it had said $17.95 on the menu. On the way out the door, I double checked the menu, and lo and behold, they had charged us $3 more for the curry than the menu had advertised. I didn't cross check the fresh rolls, but brought it to the server's attention. She casually told me that yes - their prices had gone up and they hadn't yet updated the menu.I don't begrudge restaurants raising their prices - things are expensive. But it's super shifty and in fact illegal to charge a higher amount on the bill than on the menu. We definitely won't be going back, and will be keeping an eye on the credit card bill just in case.
