I went here for a piano concert put on by a family friend, and although the venue is a little hidden, it has a quaint feel about it. I can't imagine coming back often, but I did enjoy the vibes, the small and intimate community feel, and the obscure music listings.

At last a venue dedicate to music outside the other musics! This nonprofit offers a lot of promise as a spot to check out innovative, contemporary stuff. I saw NYC's susperstar upright bass player William Parker there, and I look forward to countless future shows. Their structure as a home for arts nonprofits by day, and a venue where the whole cover charge goes to the musicians at night, is a fabulous idea.HURRAY!

I went to this group after being referred from the San Francisco Arts Commission who said they were looking for visual artists in the Tenderloin/Market area, where I applied to submit to a few galleries for an opening or group show, should they know of opportunities for artist's living in the neighborhood. At this time I lived in the Tenderloin neighborhood. When I spoke to Adam at the center, they said they would love to have me and actually had an upcoming show they could include me in within a month or so. The downside was that it was a 1-night show and would be combined with someone else's performance, no lighting or anything for artwork and very loose like volunteer-style parameters. I was cool with this and down to do whatever as I wanted to support and be part of the community with this non-profit. When it came down to the final day for the decision before launching the setup, Adam came to me and told me that the rental fee would run $500 for just the one night (3 hours) and I would need to install and take down the art myself, basically within a 2-3 hour window based around someone else's performance. At that point I sort of felt tricked, because this was a referral from the arts commission to another non-profit. So, I didn't understand why they wanted to charge $500 and said that we could not even do drinks or refreshments or really even invite our own people. On top of it all, it was strange that I had responded to a SF arts commission poster to get sent here. I was like, what's the point. Just a tip for any artist working with this group, they are going to come for your wallet.

An excellent place to both see shows and be a part of a community. I don't know of any other major cities that have locations precisely like this one, and I'm proud to be a member! I highly encourage folks to see performances and check out the calendar.
