Chicken Tikka Kebab meal and some yummy bolani to go. Wow with free parking--this is a place you have to go to. Food is so fresh. Love the cilantro sauce and family owned vibe connecting with each customer as they walk in. This is not heated up food. All fresh!

If you would like to try authentic Afghani dishes especially crispy, homemade bolani, you definitely need try this family owned restaurant/ market. They are by far one of my new favorite Afghani restaurants in the Bay. Loved their crispy potatoe and leek boloni for appetizer. If you crave delicious mantu, you should try their mantu dish. You can definitely tell that they cook every meal with love. They have delicious kabobs, but I love their flavorful shami kabob. I would definitely recommend it if you want delicious Afghani food. Bon appetite!

*** 3 - 3.5 stars ***Caravan Restaurant & Grocery Market is just that. Restaurant for dining or order ahead to go with a meat counter, limited frozen items, and Middle Eastern groceries including rice, nuts and dried fruit. Place is very dark and not inviting (seriously, they don't turn on the lights during the day) but the gentleman working there warms it up a bit. Placed an order to go: :: Bolani - 4/5 stars - Afghan stuffed flatbread. Caravan only offers potato with the option of spicy by adding chili flakes. Was expecting leek and potato (looking at other posts) but leek was absent in mine. Fortunately, the potato was nicely spiced, exterior was nicely crisp and accompanied with their vinegar-based cilantro chutney and yogurt :: Chapli Kebab - 2.5/5 stars - flavor was delicious but was not a fan of the texture. I'm used the meat having a coarse grind but their chapli kebab was overworked or overground meat into a thin 5" patty . Visually (to me), it was odd as it reminded me of a 1/8" thin sausage patty in a McMuffin!) and not much of a crust :: Quabili Pallow - 2.5/5 Afghan Rice With Lamb, Carrots, and Raisins. One of my fave Afghan dishes. The rice was delicious with 6 cubed pieces of lamb..and random bone. First, second, third bites were good but the other pieces were extremely gamey....to be honest it tasted on the border of rancid. I've had gamey and this was the most gamey lamb I've ever had! Not pleasant. Overall, a good try and average pricing ($14-$16/item). I will definitely return for the bolani and try their chicken and beef kebabs. I probably won't be eating lamb for awhile. :| Plenty of tables for dine-in with free street parking along busy Mission Blvd.

I called ahead of time for food to go. When I got there, nothing was ready. They started cooking when I got there. They didn't even apologize. Poor Service.

My first visit was to the grocery section -- though let me tell you about my second, first. The Restaurant Delicious. Call me bias, as I'm Afghan, yet when food isn't delicious, I won't say that it is. Perhaps the best Chicken Kabob I've ever had, (I mean that sincerely). My Pashtu isn't what it used to be, and had to ask the gentleman how to say "juicy". Can a restaurant/market, also be a place to further expand/redeem my failing Pashtu? Yes. The rice is genuinely made with care. Subtle, though you'll see it was mixed and twice seasoned. Would it have tasted the same if it wasn't? When a place takes this much time to prepare food and with this level of detail, you can be more assured the rest of the meal is as well. The salad and chutney, though staple at all Afghan restaurants, was fresh and in-balanced proportion. As I was ready to pay for my meal, the thought occurred to get some bread. I really didn't need anything else from the market, though when fresh bread is on the rack, you buy fresh bread. We Afghans cut it up, freeze it, and (though not limited to) throw it in the toaster to mop up breakfast eggs. What a great place to eat and experience a bit of home. Go there -- you'll be treated as family
