"One of the things I unearthed in the freezer was a pound of beef liver from El Cerrito Natural Grocery. I put it in the refrigerator to defrost and today I decided to make chopped liver. I hard boiled two eggs, but needed to buy onions to cook in chicken schmaltz and grind up w/ the liver and the eggs, using my mother's old cast iron hand grinder. I decided to drive north to Giovanni's rather than to my other choices, parking right in front. A woman was leaving as I walked in and we chatted briefly. The nice man working there gave me her shopping cart to use, which I appreciated. Of course I left w/ more than onions, including a package of 4 vegetarian tamales, a bottle of Côtes du Rhone that sounded tasty from the description on the card, and a pint of organic sun gold tomatoes. The chopped liver is made and chilling in the refrigerator. I have offered some to Nina, who loves it. I enjoy wandering around Giovanni's and seeing what interesting products they have, and they have a wide range. It's an old school independent market. They had bottles of a $2 or $3 wine that was described as cooking wine. I loved that."
"The Union City Farmers Market is located in a nice park. They are open year round every Saturday from 9am to 1pm rain or shine. The day we visited, there was about a dozen vegetable and fruit stands. Also, a couple of other vendors selling other stuff such as baked goods, kettle corn, Filipino food, and health products.Overall, it was alright. Would be a regular if we lived in the area. As a visitor to the Bay area, I doubt we will return very often to this specific farmers market."
"You can find super super greens at the pinole farmers market saterdays. Oliver is owner and operator of this business. He is super passionate about growing microgreens. It shines through in his product. His sprouts are super flavorful, freshly harvested, and pack a super nutritional punch. I look forward to going to the hercules market when I have a free saterday to pick up some fresh local sprouts at Oliver's stand."
"So glad I've stumbled upon Earth Grown Drinks, but can't recall how. This corner shop has you covered for all your fresh juice needs. They have a lot of promotions, menus, specials, and too much signage, I'll admit all that info overwhelmed me. (Consider consolidating all the signage and choose a few instead of posting all)The special that caught my attention was the Detox Series, and I ordered the "Fresh Detox" during my first visit. This juice included lemon, apple, ginger, cucumber, spinach, and celery. The drink was green, which was expected with those types of veggies. This refreshing drink was priced fairly at $8.50 for 16oz.Another time, I got the fresh squeezed orange juice. $2 for 16oz. I'm not sure if the whole drink is pure orange juice, but it was refreshing and tasty.Customer service has been great, all the ladies have been really nice during each of my visits. They also sell homemade herbal jelly in jars, $5.50 each. There's a open refrigerator with their perishable items. I tried their grass jelly and it was really good. The lady suggested to add honey for sweetness. I'll be back again soon, Earth Grown.#34/2023"
"rancho market is on the corner of foothill and fruitvale i remember for many years this was a drug store back in the 80s and early 90s now it,s rancho market it,s a cool market the only thing is it,s always crowded because the bus stop is right in front also it,s very hard to find parking they also have a cool carneceria in the back..."
"Wonderful small farmer's market! Some current stalls include Feel Good Bakery, Crepe A Moi, produce, flowers, and organic strawberries.I come here every week! My favorite stall is the bakery (go figure)!. The seeded cheese sticks are divine ($2), as are the pumpkin chocolate muffins and rosemary scones. They also sell a variety of artisan breads.Crepes, a close second. The man who makes the crepes obviously considers it an art and they are delish. Sweet and savory available. The savory are made with buckwheat flower. Flowers are reasonably priced at $6 or $10 a bunch. There's a stall that sells nuts and dried fruit for a good work/desk snack. The organic strawberries are $4 a container (pint?) Or 3 for $10. They also have raspberries. You can tadte before you buy and they are genuinely delicious. There's a tamale stand 2 for $5. I will vouch for their tastiness too.10am to 2pm, Wednesdays. Seasonally. Stop by if you are in the area, it's a nice way to spend some time and support local merchants!* Edit 9/5/2017- this year I highly recommend the pluots, they are divine! The market has expanded with a pasta sauce stall, Filipino food, Mexican food, dumplings (Momo's), granola, strawberries, produce, coffee cart, Indian food, baked goods and crepes! The Indian food stall is cash only."
""Aw man, da San Franceesco Giants are keekeeng ASS! Ese Bonds si sabe jugar!! Aye man, you like da Giants?"The guy who owns this place talks to EVERYONE who walks into the store all the while he's ringing people up, bagging the groceries and watching either football or soccer on the tv hanging from the ceiling. Multi-tasker extraodinaire! When I turn on the Mexi-chef button I buy all my Mexi-groceries here. Even if I have to drive from SF to this store, I will. I've been coming here for my whole entire wide life. 5lbs. of carne asada, 5 avocados, 5 tomatoes, cilantro, onion, 10 jalapenos, rice, three dozen corn tortillas. $30...total. $20 buck for the meat alone.AND they have Mexican bread!!! The only pastries that I will never feel guilty eating. No matter how fat I get eating them. I don't care."
"the Rico Tamales food cart is parked in front of a check cashing station as well as a laundromat. the commercial strip building has been totally renovated. all the old tenants are goneofferings: fruit cups, tamales (corn, pork, chicken) with salsa. food to go only. no seating area.eats: pork and chicken tamale @2.50-tamales are wrapped in a square shape in aluminum. it looks like a brick of something but is isn't. '-'----left side has braised pork, with smooth tasty masa. tastes like lard mixed in.. -right side is square shaped, has pieces of chicken meat within.. green sauce given in a small pounch has a slight heat 4,5 stars great value, big portions. wrapped in aluminum not leaf, square shape not rectanglar.note:-address shown on cart is their commisary location. not where the cart is at."
"Thanks Berkeley Bowl - from now on I will walk through any Whole Foods in disgust - thats how spoiled you made me.For years my lawyer neighbors told me to go here. It took till today - because I was just across the street to get Girlfriends Accord an oil change. For years I went to Oakand Honda - but I don't like the changes since Cardinal took it over. So yes, I drive past 3 Honda dealers to get to the one I like - and I would do the same and drive past 3 cities for this grocery store also.Never been to an Erewhon but I imagine this to be the same - although less stuffy. Erewhon is the benchmark grocery store but other than being stuffy and probably a bit more expensive I don't think they could offer more. I like all the people working here. I didn't notice any crazy uniforms or goofy unnecessary nonsense. Overall the people working here were energetic and happy looking. I liked that. Spoiled isn't the word for what this place will make you become. Endless variety in the produce section or anywhere else for that matter. I was shocked to see Josey Baker bread - I love that place but don't have it often since its across the bay on Divis. I believe that is the most flavorful bread around - its Tartine quality but lesser known. They are one of the very very few that use fresh milled local organic grains. The bakery is another section you will be impressed with. The most beautiful fruit tarts I've ever seen and I grabbed the last mango mousse cake. Haven't tried it yet but look forward to my 'Hand Crafted Cakes by Karl.' I personally am so tired of that 'signature' butter cream utilized at WF. Its so uninteresting and sold everywhere - somehow I've told myself that it tastes like Amazon. I picked up what I could in a short amount of time and noticed at 5:55 that I needed to be across the street to scoop up GF Accord before the Honda dealer closed at 6pm. I raced to the front - noticed one cashier with a big sign 'in training' - i'm sure that person was ok - but wasn't going to take any chances. Shopped around for more seasoned looking cashiers that could check me out quick. Was out in another couple minutes and my purchases were neatly placed in a beautiful box that my Mr Moose made his new home the minute he saw it. Probably the biggest (not Amazon big but by options and floor space) and best grocery store around. And thankfully they don't do things The CardinaleWay."
"Great sandwiches! Love having this neighborhood grocery store that carries all the essentials, a huge plus is they also have many gluten free items which is great when you're in a pinch!"
"Halva, canned hummus, and vegan ice cream. I didn't know this store had all this inside, even some kind of vegan burger patty I've never heard of. Really enjoyed coming here, glad i could get my hands on some marbled halva again!"
"LOVE this place! Very nice, friendly couple who own it. They have fresh fruit and veggies all the time. They carry basically everything you need from a bigger store. Lots of choices for condiments too. Their prices are a little higher than a chain store but I prefer going here bcuz it's usually not crowded, fresh good quality produce and friendly service. Not to mention supporting a small local business. Oh, their avocados are always ripe! They have a lot of vegan friendly items and milk alternatives. Just a little side note: they do take EBT"

I was a little over whelmed! the fresh pastas frozen pastas packaged and boxed pastas! The sauces the colorful veg! The friendly staff! Whaaaat vvvvrrpp! I backed up passing the pasta sauces, Butternut squash??? Hmmmm sounds interesting. Spied pitted fresh dates, I knew we had sage and walnuts. What pasta tho??? I spied like 4 varieties of farfedelle. I chose the Italian one. On to veggies. What to accompany? Well even tho it's the first day of spring, I was intrigued by the rainbow bundles of Swiss chard, and mammoth leeks and oh so fresh basil bunch. I can hook that up fo sho. I had sweet peppers, garlic sautéed in buttah then simmered in chicken stock. A rather autumn like meal on the first day of spring. But as I write this... it was among the best meals I've ever made.

Very decent Farmer's market. Location: Old Alvarado Park, only on Saturdays. Fresh produces and fruits available. Food and fish stalls are also there. Small compared to the other Farmer's markets around. Reasonably priced I would say. Fruits were really good, especially the berries I bought that day. People are friendly as well. What I liked the best about this is the location. It's in the Old Alvarado Park; shades all around. Comfortable walking around and picking up fruits/veggies without the troubles of sun in the Summer weather. There's play area near by where kids can have fun as well.Disadvantages: Small farmer's market, options are less. Parking is a big headache. Public parking spots near by, but always full. Street parking in the best option, but hard to find.

Hands down the best selection of microgreens. The owner, Oliver, equips himself with a big smile and journals of health benefits from the varieties. If you eat microgreens like me, ask him about bigger bags.

They make a coconut smoothie that is pure coconut. It tastes exactly like a French coconut blended into a tasty beverage.

Super cheap for produce but you really gotta dig to find the stuff that's not overly ripe. It's a great place if you're shopping on a budget but remember, you get what you pay for. Don't go here at night and there's a small ass selection. But it's good enough.

"LOVE this place! What a lovely neighborhood gem. I adopted two guinea pigs during shelter-in-place lol they are so cute. They eat A LOT - they eat fresh veggies like lettuce everyday so that's the main reason I found House of Produce (HOP). I needed a good go-to place for fresh produce near home. Due to shelter-in-place... I've also been frequenting the Ace Hardware next door to HOP, but that's another story! This spot is small but packs a punch! They have most grocery items you might need: eggs, milk, dairy + alternatives. Obviously, they have produce - they have your standard stuff and also some bok choy and few other Asian produce items. They also have some household items you might need in a pinch, things like dishwasher soap or other cleaning supplies. My biggest shoutout goes to their supply of some Asian grocery items! They have a decent variety of different instant noodles (when you just need that cheap comfort food), and they have all sorts of spices and sauces. I am 1/2 Filipino and cook sinigang sometimes - they have the Tamarind Soup Mix by Knorr which is used as the base of the sinigang soup by many including myself haha. If you haven't tried sinigang, trust me, you need it in your life! Soooo good. Also, the ladies who work here always say hi and how are you, they are friendly and you feel good about supporting them :)Prices are also very reasonable and competitive. Pro tip, avoid paying for street parking and go one street above (north of) MacArthur around the corner from HOP. Park somewhere in front of someone's home in the neighborhood and just walk!"
"This is my second visit and BY FAR better than the first, which was a couple of years ago. I dont know who the gentleman at the register was, but what an awesome guy! They didnt have any basil up front, he went to the back and got some for me! These prices for the stuff I got was INSANELY AWESOME! I got kale, beets, greens, squash, zucchini, basil, garlic, carrots, celery, potatoes, lemons and cilantro for $10!! Holy Toledo Batman! It was totally worth it and these prices are crazy good! If you spend $10 or more, there is no fee to use your card. If you spend less than $10, it's a 50 cent fee. Dont forget to bring your bags! The greens are incredibly affordable and the healthiest for you! I made enough caldo de pollo (chicken soup) with veggies for like 6 people, and it ended up costing me $9 total to make! Tip: I purchased a whole rotisserie chicken from Costco for $5 (deboned it to make chicken soup with it), and spent $4 on the veggies that went into that soup, spending $9 total. And now I can feed an army! Hahaha. I totally recommend this place! ESPECIALLY if you love healthy greens for juicing, sauteeing, etc for next to nothing! I will def be returning!"
"Alex Market is a minature Trader Joe's/Whole Foods.lots of gourmet food items, fresh fruit, chips, cereals, home supplies, beers. wines, cookies, baked goods, canned goods, frozen prepped food, etc.unfortunately few large bottle craft beers, just 6/4 packs. no premade ready to eat foodnot a lot of parking in front.buys: kombucha(3.99)-trying something to clean up my sensitive stomachtoo many bad meals lately?quick, courteous check out when i was ready..."
"If you have not tried Mystical Mixes you need to get there NOW! The food is always fresh and hot! The Drinks are truly revitalizing and great for your health overall because they are infused with sea moss. Everything is made from naturally grown plants and made in house, if you are looking for Vegan Food that will blow your mind look no further. It's a one man show so please be patient, Mystix is so kind and polite, and he gets those orders out quick. The place isn't large but they do have a nice seating area right in the window where the sun always seems to shine, not to mention the mural behind you on the wall is a perfect backdrop. I can't rant and rave enough about Mystical Mixes this shop is a great addition to the community that is here to stay! Don't forget to come to the re-Grand opening (IYKYK) 11/11/2023"
"Every Wednesday during the summer, there is a Farmer's Market on Parrott Street right next to Pelton Plaza!!Usually, there's live music, lots of booths offering a variety of fruits and vegetables, and other food options. It's small, has a local feel, actually makes you forget it's Wednesday, makes a Wednesday feel like a Friday!!It's a great way to break up the week, at least for a few hours anyway. Always enjoy coming here."
"This little corner market is small, but mighty. Their fruits and vegetables are reasonably priced and very fresh, with lots of organic options. On my most recent visit, I tried their fresh squeezed OJ, and let me tell you it's delicious! During my previous visit, I saw one of the staff members working hard using this machine to package OJ pints, 1/2 gallons, and full gallons. They have a small rack of discounted items that are extremely ripe or nearing their expiration dates, which is a hit or miss. One time I got really awesome discounted veggies and fruits. Another time, I had to pass on everything as most of the items were way past ripe or almost ready for compost. They partner with couple of local shops for ready-to-eat items. I've seen Burmese Tea Leaf Salads, hummus wraps, and etc. The veggie hummus wrap was delicious. Staff members are friendly. This little market takes cash or card. Small parking lot in the front of the shop or street parking available. I'll be back again soon for fresh squeezed OJ and organic produce.#16/2021"

"This Farmer's Market is nicely located along North Shattuck and offers you the convenient chance to hang out in the Gourmet Ghetto area before, during, and after. And the Thursday timing fits my schedule and commute just right. As Toni mentions, this place is a bit on the small side, but the selection is good enough for me, and I enjoy the variety and the friendly neighbourhood vibe. Parking is also fairly straightforward if you know where to look."
"Sangrams Palace is an indian grocery with neatly arranged produce, indian videos, indian snacks & groceries, newspapers, etc.place is small but all the essentials are present. .eats: zeefoods "Kulfibar" original indian ice cream (pistachio, 1.25) bar-2.5 ounces, tasty, vegetarian, gelatin/egg free-not too sweet, some preservatives in this.3.5 starsdrips:-friendly, respectful servicethey called me "Sir". sounds Brit. eh?-didn't look at the pricing of groceries,4 stars for the available selection."
"An excellent spot to grab local produce and snacks! The prices are really reasonable and they stock good quality fruits and veggies. They often have sales on their produce and will advertise them by placing their sale items out in front of the store. They also carry a nice variety of nuts and local snacks. I like coming in and perusing their snack section because I usually always find something new to try. They carry organic, gluten free, and dairy free items too. I've purchased a variety of different fruits and vegetables here and for the most part, their items are fresh. There have been a few occasions where I've received bad and/or spoiled fruit. The good thing is, it's really easy to go back and exchange or return the items. This has only happened a couple of times, but I would advise you to double check your items before you leave (especially the fruit).I've never had to wait in a ridiculously long line and they're produce is far more superior to the hellhole across the street (*cough*SAFEWAY*cough*). The people working here are super friendly and helpful. I haven't been coming here as often as I used to, but it's nice to know that this market is around when I need it."
"I moved from Oakland to Berkeley a few weeks ago. Berkeley Bowl gets a lot more hype, but I was encouraged to check out Monterey Market for produce. What a gem!I've been super impressed with the discount section. Everything there is still in fine shape (and very much edible), even if past its prime. On my first visit, I bought cucumbers, apples, and mangoes. This time, I went big: three mangoes, four peppers, five tomatoes, a dozen sweet potatoes and a dozen or so pears -- all from the discount shelf. The pears are a little bruised and the mangoes are pretty soft, but that is no big deal.I paid just a little over $10 for this entire haul. (See photo.) I may never get produce at Safeway again."
"This is my first time going to this supermarket and my god, I loved everything about it, they were careful with who's going on and coming out, clean, went in there to grab this specific hot link and came out with a lot of vegetables because they have to he freshest vegetables, especially the greens and they got variety of seasonings and everything just looked so good. Couldn't resist coming out with just hot link. Definitely highly recommended. Wish we lived closer. Had to drive from sf to come here but will definitely be back to shop more"
"Valley produce is a great family owned produce and a carniceria/butcher shop. The people working here are friendly and the store is clean. Another plus is they have a parking lot; there is no street parking on San Pablo Avenue. I think the prices are compatible with other nearby supermarkets and Latin food stores. On the other hand S thinks they are too expensive.I'd rather pickup a few things here than go to a supermarket. They have a nice selection of fresh vegetables and fruit. They have a lot of Latin spices and cheese. The marinated meats in the carniceria make great fajitas. The other meat is hand-cut to order it doesn't sit all day in a package. They also sell their own delicious fresh salsas and guacamole. What some pan dulce, or different chips? You'll find it at this small market.Yes, they deserve 5 stars!"
"Fresh fish and some dead in the water. I asked for halibut filets and got filets of tails. First time I went their the files were beautiful.I'm not knowledgeable enough, and I don't speak Hispanic. So it's particularly my fault."
"Fortunate to have this farmer's market in Alameda. Located on the west end, off of Webster, on Haight, this farmers market operates on Tuesdays and Saturdays, 9am-1pm. It's on the smaller side, but definitely worth exploring. Offerings include produce, flowers, and other items including mushrooms, honey, pickles, etc, from local producers. Lovely bouquets of flowers, very reasonably priced, unlike at the grocery store. I was disappointed that there was not more organic produce; from what I saw, only one of the vendors offered organic vegetables. Was hoping to see primarily organics across the board. Perhaps in the Spring, there will be more of a bounty of organic fruits and vegetables to choose from. The berry vendor (organic berries, yay!) was completely sold out by the time we got there around 11am. As the other reviews reflect, the berries are very popular at this market, so you'll want to get there earlier than we did to snag some of this nature's dessert. Pleased to see they accept EBT; everyone deserves access to fresh, healthy food. We will make a habit of frequenting this market regularly. Support local farmers, support your local farmer's market!"
"It's a small one compared to most Farmer's Markets I have been to, but the variety is impressive: plenty of vendors offering different products: fruits, veggies, eggs, seafood, fresh baked bread, household items like soap, even. There are a few vendors selling the same exact items as others, but the pricing is pretty much exact. It'll have to come down to the quality and appearance should choices need to be made. There's a duo providing the music which added to the overall vibe. There's also a Filipino pop-up eatery which was popular - there was never less than a line of three customers waiting for their turn for some made to order grubbies!Hubbers and I were able to purchase some veggies for the week. They are pricier than what you will find in the grocery store, but the quality is unquestionably far more superior. The only let down was that dogs aren't allowed... :( But we understand. There are rules and protocols to be followed. Otherwise, it was a good run. Definitely something to do on a Saturday morning."
"DATE: 08/28/2022Back in my hometown, it is super hard to find really fresh Moringa leaves and vegetable and Jute leaves and other fresh vegetables. I was really craving these vegetables since I miss my grandma's cooking so I searched up on Yelp and Google for the nearest farmer's market and it lead me to this location.Since my hometown farmer's market always disappointed me as well as other farmer's markets, I was quite surprised by my experience here. I did not expected to find the freshest vegetables ever! Especially rare vegetables like Jute Leaves and Moringa. They are only open from 9AM-2PM and I arrived around 11AM and by then, I expected them to be running low on produce, but they weren't! Everything was also really cheap and way better than vegetables in the supermarket. The Jute Leaves came in a large bundle and was only $3! Moringa vegetable was $7/pound, which I think is pretty average. I only saw one stall selling Moringa leaves and I may have bought the last one only for $8 for a large bundle! I was really satisfied with my purchases and since I bought a lot, I now have no idea how to finish all of them, but it's okay, I now know a place where I can buy these rare produce to bring to my grandma."
"Aloha Market has a non Chinese cashier. so unusual.meat market not busy so didn't look. canned foods/condiments pricey.veggies stacked on the sidewalks and inside the store.buys: name brand bananaes (J) @.35 lb.-cheapest seen in awhile.-lots of people browsing/shopping here.probably some bargains somewhere."

"This spot is a hidden gem; it's open later than Vitality Bowl and Jamba Juice on top of having a superior taste. A must try!!"
"I love this little marketplace. Every time I'm in Alameda, I somehow end up here. This time, I stopped in to look for Odd Bagels Gluten Free Bagels. They're made locally and can be found in the bread aisle. They were fantastic! Nice and soft and chewy just like a bagel should be! Since I had a few minutes, I walked around and discovered other great finds like Far West Funghi wild mushrooms in the produce section. I'm definitely coming back."
