Gerald R. "POST-GAME AND PRE-GAME CAL FOOTBALL MEALSI'll admit the first time I heard about this place is what tragically happened to the owner. Due to that I wanted to come here to support Oakland businesses. Customers who ate here rave about the G Fire wings. The first time I came here was on a Sunday the day after Cal beat Auburn. Also that day was my birthday so I had two things to celebrate. I ordered the G Fire Wings along with two scoops of rice. I also ordered the XL lumpia as that is another item that customers rave. The G Fire Wings hype is real. They're worth ordering. These wings have a texture similar to the Korean chicken wings I ate at two Chinese restaurants in San Francisco. The XL lumpia is long and the pork filling is flavorful. After eating here I noticed the "Special of the Day" consisted of coconut chicken adobo with rice and G-Fire beef short ribs with rice. I knew I had to come back to Lucky Three Seven. The second time I came here was on Saturday October 5. Earlier that day I was at Berkeley (arrived around 3:50 AM) for ESPN College GameDay. I was hoping to order the coconut chicken adobo, but it wasn't available that day. I ordered one of the daily specials that day - pork belly adobo. I have a love-hate relationship with adobo as either it is a hit or miss with me at Filipino parties or restaurants. There are some reasons. I have had some adobos with the broth too soupy or oily. Other times the meat (pork or chicken) is dry and stringy. The adobo I ate at Lucky Three Seven was the pork belly adobo. The broth had that vinegar taste that associates with adobo. Also the broth wasn't too soupy. Most importantly the pork belly was moist. The fat was rendered well enough to eat. The pork belly adobo was one of the few times I've enjoyed eating adobo at a restaurant. The third time I came here was the following Saturday prior to the Cal-Pitt game. I was elated to see that the chicken coconut adobo was one of the specials of the day. The parts for the chicken adobo I had were the chicken wings. Regarding the broth the coconut milk cuts the sharpness of the vinegar. Yet there is still that adobo flavor from that dish. The use of the chicken wings results in a moist meat for this adobo dish. The chicken coconut adobo is the most unique adobo dish I've ever ate. The fourth time I came here was Saturday after the North Carolina State-Cal game. I came here close to 6:00 PM. One of the "Specials of the Day" was the G Fire short ribs with rice. The G Fire short ribs had a different flavor than the G Fire wings - the flavor similar to the short ribs on a Hawaiian lunch plate. The short ribs at Lucky Three Seven are meatier than most of the beef short ribs I've ate from other Hawaiian eateries.Whether before or after Cal sporting events if I am hungry I'll go to Lucky Three Seven."

John G. "I've known about this place for a while as they've been featured on social media, newsprints, articles, word-of-mouth, TV shows, YouTube and etc... A few months ago (more like last summer), I took wifey here on a dinner date and didn't tell here where we were going. Funny thing was that as soon as I stepped inside, the bartender was already buttering me up...and it worked. So, I had to order some Red Horse (Philippine malt beer made by San Miguel) to get me started. The chef and owner, Janice Dulce, was busy working and greeting guests from behind and in front of the kitchen. The placed used to be a taqueria as she paid homage by keeping the original sign outside while adding her F.O.B. Kitchen logo. The exterior of the place is vibrant, full of colors and greeneries with vines crawling up the wall. The interior is warm, homey with touches of Philippine artwork. It feels comfortable, and the staff was surely very welcoming. We had the following: Starters/Pulutan - Sticky Wings ($15) coated with Patis (Fish Sauce) Caramel, pickles & cilantro. It was a delightful fried chicken that was well-balanced with tanginess and sweetness. The patis flavor wasn't too overpowering and pleasantly not too salty. It was crispy on the outside and tender inside. Lechon Kawali ($13) thriced cooked pork belly with pickled red onion, Thai chili, soy sauce & lemon. They were crispy but not greasy. The pickled red onion gave it a nice contrast, dipping it in the sauce gave it an umami punch. Of course, the Bartender reminded me to get the "Mang Tomas" sauce as it wouldn't be complete without it.Side Dish/Gulay-Tortang Talong ($13.00 - eggplant omelet, tomato, scallions, soy & banana ketchup dipping sauce (before the ban). Solid dish that was evenly coated with egg that provided a crispy exterior layer mixed with the soft eggplant to give it a nice contrast of texture and flavor.Entrees/Ulam - Sinigang Baboy ($25) tamarind & ginger soup, pork, daikon, bok choy, eggplant, green beans & Thai chili. If you like it sour, this was very sour....in a good way. The sourness comes the tamarind, which is very traditional and definitely did not come in a powder form. It was definitely a strong kick that would clear out your sinuses. The fresh veggies just sapped in all the flavors, and I couldn't stop eating them.Pork Adobo ($20) palm vinegar, soy, garlic, annatto, coconut milk & Thai chili. I have to give this a mix review since the pork was not consistent. There were parts that were dry and parts that were tender. However, their version of adobo was unique as I literally slurping the sauce. It was savory, but it also had sweet notes that reminded me of caramel. I just wished they made a Chicken Adobo version as well as chicken can be easily cooked evenly compared to pork. Dessert/Panghimagas -Turon with Ube Ice Cream (forgot the cost) a nice ending to the dish as the Turon was goldenly fried and the Ube was made with real Ube. It wasn't too sweet, and the ice cream had a great texture of real Ube mixed in. I don't know if they made it inhouse or from a vendor, but I appreciate a good and real Ube when I taste it. Not the fake, purple-colored desserts being appropriated by Trader Joe's. Cold Brew Pandan Coffee ($6). I know, it's not really a dessert, but this was addictively so good that I ordered another and another to go. Now, my only bone to pick with was the side of garlic rice that we ordered. The garlic was nice, but the rice was just way too clumpy. It could've been mixed together more evenly as opposed to getting clumps and chunks that it was almost a cop out. Just my opinion, but they could pay more attention on this one. Don't want to end on a negative note as we truly enjoyed our meal and time here. The service was friendly and professional, especially the Bartender. These were truly some of the best-tasting Filipino dishes we'd have to date, and I know there are other dishes that we wanted to try, but we only have two mouths. They also pay homage to its Oakland roots as evident from the names of the cocktails such as The Town, Blow the Whistle, Feelin' Myself, and Golden State of Mind. Oakland has been getting a bad rap, especially with what happened to their mayor, but it doesn't represent everything about The Town. It's very rich in the diversity in its people and culinary cuisines. There are good people here trying to make it better. Janice Dulce is one of those people. She's a proud Filipina American offering her culture and providing a safe space for people of color with different ethnicities, background and orientation. We must uphold them during these bleak times, and it is what America should be about."

Justin T. "One of the greatest, , tiny, fried bites of food you will ever have is lumpia. What is lumpia? Glad you asked. It is basically a Filipino spring roll or egg roll. I work in the medical field where many of my peers are from the Philippines. It is a common dish brought to potlucks and it's one of my go to pick ups when I need to bring something to a gathering. It's a great finger food and a crowd favorite. When visiting San Francisco, I knew there was a strong Filipino community out there. Little did I know that I would see a whole concession stand at Oracle Park featuring delicious lumpia. I try and skip the usual baseball game foods and seek out local foods. This was as local as it gets. They had lumpia and a few dessert items. That's it. Their stand alone restaurants have more items on the menu. I got an order of the chicken lumpia and a strawberry calamansi lemonade. The lumpia came out hot and fresh and was a generous serving. It came with a sweet and sour sauce that was really an afterthought for me. It was delicious on it's own. It was a tad bit greasier than I'm used to though. We tore those suckers up in no time. Calamansi anything was new to me, but it was explained to me as a lime like fruit from Southeast Asia. The lemonade concoction was very good. It was refreshing while watching summer baseball!Overall, we really enjoyed our food here. I have their brick and mortar bookmarked for the next time I'm in the Bay Area."

I almost want to keep this a secret selfishly lol but I also want this restaurant to thrive and spread the good word! Gotta support my Filipino peeps- cuz I'm half Filipino lol. They had a delicious buffet spread. Most everything was super tasty but the standouts for me were the beef kare-kare- which is a beef stew with peanut butter sauce (sounds weird but is so good), menudo, and bistek (Filipino beef steak and onions). We loved the variety and being able to try a bit of everything. They had lots of options but I'll attempt to mention a few! Lechon crispy pork belly, shrimp tempura, pork sisig, ginitaang manok (coconut chicken), pancit, palabok, and pinakbet. Service was very friendly. Someone came around to collect plates to clear up your table as you get multiple rounds of food! Utensils and water available on the side to help yourself. There's also a desert table with coffee. For some reason, arroz caldo was also on that table which is like a chicken and rice porridge with ginger. We got lucky and walked in on a Sunday around 11:50am. You can also reserve on Google/Yelp in advance. They have booth tables and normal tables, a fair amount of seating. I liked the Christmas parol decorations, which are Filipino Christmas lanterns. They had some authentic Filipino feel paintings on the wall of like Mount Mayon lol which is a volcano in the Philippines. Overall highly recommend a visit. I want to come back and try their other food that wasn't available on the buffet."

They also offer 2 sauces to have with the empanadas and they enhanced it even more. If you're an empanada fan, I recommend checking this spot out! Alvin M. "Craving and looking for some comfort & sit-down Filipino cuisine in Union City that's just off the Nimitz?! Don't trek too far from the exit, as this location is as convenient as it can be - with ample parking & an ambient/spacious dining atmosphere that awaits you & your loved ones!Order the crispy pata ($19.99) -- deep-fried pig foreleg -- and you'll be greeted with a platter of bones, one that resembles a ham hock and another curious set that my friends and I reasoned must form a porcine heel (which our waiter confirmed). It's not for the squeamish. But the meat clinging to the bones is delicious, the cartilage delightfully chewy. A soy-vinegar-garlic dipping sauce heightens the meaty flavor without taking over.Typical of Filipino cuisine, the restaurant is a carnivore's delight: Meat, poultry or seafood makes an appearance in every item on the menu except the rice and desserts. You have to have a feast every time that you must dine here!A glorious way to kick off the meat parade is with the pork sisig appetizer ($12.99), pig face that's been roasted, grilled, then chopped fine. The cartilage lends a great al dente texture, and the lemon wedge that accompanies it cuts the fat. Eat it quickly, though: It congeals as it cools.Lumpiang Shanghai ($8.99), finger-size egg rolls, are crisp and full of flavor from the shrimp-pork-onion filling, though the sweet chili dipping sauce was a little too sweet.Sinigang ($12.99 - Pork / $17.00 - Bangus) is a comforting potage of meat, eggplant, tomatoes, radish and green beans in a clear broth soured with tamarind. The Filipino palate favors sour, so medium-sour was quite tart, but the beef is tender, the vegetables nicely cooked.Tribu's Adobo ($12.99) is a relatively dry version of the Philippines' national dish, with luscious chunks of pork and chicken coated with well-balanced vinegar, soy and pepper. Inihaw na Bangus ($18.99) arrives grilled & well-done, & well-cooked fillet of milkfish -- considered the Philippines' national fish -- in a soy-lemon marinade.Dinner is balanced by a few vegetable stews and salads, including pinakbet ($13.99), a lightly sauced, pleasant melange of kabocha squash, eggplant, green beans and bitter melon. For a meal-in-a-bowl, try binagoongan fried rice ($11.99 - small, $18.99 - large), rice mixed with fermented shrimp paste and topped with scrambled egg, fried pork, fresh tomatoes and mangoes. The sweet mango, salty rice and crispy pork work together well. The muskiness of the shrimp paste caught me off guard, but by the end of the bowl I was loving it.Desserts at Tribu Grill stay the course. Its Filipino sundae, or halo-halo ($7.49), is a fun jumble of textures and flavors from crunchy shaved ice, creamy ube (purple yam) ice cream, toothsome sweet beans, sticky caramel and firm gelatin cubes.Unlike many restaurants serving lesser-known cuisines, Tribu Grill makes itself accessible to outsiders. Its decor is welcoming, with huge windows overlooking the hustle & bustle of Union Landing, cheery orange and yellow walls, and an open kitchen. The menu describes the dishes well, and servers are friendly and patient about answering questions from non-Filipinos. Sometimes, however, they're a bit too laid-back. Once our plates of different entrees sat on our table until after dessert arrived; on another night, we had to flag down a waitress to receive our bill, and get checked out. While Tribu Grill, to its credit, doesn't let U.S. influences water down its cuisine, there is one way the restaurant is quintessentially American: It offers huge portions. Nearly every party leaves their table with a few meals' worth of fine Filipino fare. Come hangry & leave happy!"

Andrew S. "I love coming to lechon manila simply for one of their offerings: roast lechon. Growing up eating roast lechon at parties, I always hit a bit of a craving for the crispy skin that kawali just doesn't hit the spot for--and lechon manila is one of the only spots I know of that will sell roast lechon by the pound. For just 2 people, buying a whole roast pig just isn't a financially sound investment, so coming here is a great choice. Lechon Manila is located directly next to SK donut in the Alvarado Place strip mall. (I always find myself ordering a dozen cronut holes as a reward for making the trip out here). Its very easy to find parking, since the shared parking lot is huge and usually not packed. Upon entering, you'll find a pretty traditional cafeteria-style restaurant, as most surrounding Filipino restaurants are organized. Lines vary by time of day, usually around 10-11AM the line will be out the door, later in the day -- when most of the dishes are beginning to run low the lines are shorter. You'll want to come early if you want really crispy and juicy roast lechon. Be sure to eat it quickly, because lechon does tend to get a bit hard and chewy if it gets cold/steams up. Roast Lechon: This is my favorite dish here, and one of the sole reasons I come to the restaurant. Most of the time, when I order 3-4LB trays of lechon I'd say 85% of the skin is crispy like a potato chip, and the rest is really crunchy, like chicharon. If you come later in the day, you may get a bit of the harder crunchy skin -- just be sure to come early!Sisig: This is one of those dishes that thrives really great at lechon restaurants. I love sisig when its super crispy and packed with tangy/spicy flavors. Definitely a dish you won't want to miss from here."

Ordered the lechon belly ($21.99/lb). We asked for 1lb and they weighted it at 1.2lb and asked if it's ok. Also, ordered a small rice and a xs pancit ($4.50).
