The food, service and ambience were all excellent! We both had fried fish combos and it was cooked perfectly. The wait staff were very professional and on top of it. I did note that they closed at 9 and we did not get there until after 8 so, we were still eating after they were trying to close. They were gracious and patient and never said anything that made us feel rushed, although, they did start putting chairs up on vacated tables while guests still ate. That made me try to hurry up. I left my sweater in the restaurant and the hostess ran after me (I was a block away) to give it to me. The great attitudes and service were exceptional!"

Danny, the owner and cook, is hella friendly. He came out and talked to us and since my bf is from NOLA, Danny shared his excitement for NOLA and the memories he made living there. The bf gave his stamp of approval and said it's the closest thing to home! They have daily specials. We came on a Tuesday, and the daily special was pork chops with mac n cheese and it was amazing! I got the shrimp po' boy and it tasted like we were in NOLA! I can't wait to go back on Thursday for the cajun chicken pot pie everyone is raving about. The little decor they have and the background jazz music make you think you're somewhere else than Benicia. I think we found our new favorite cajun spot! Thanks, Danny!"

Michael C. "Jusla Eats is maybe the new pop-up, definitely a catering spot, located in the classic Flora spot that closed last year and then became Palmetto, which also closed. Offering Cajun/southern-influenced cuisine, and a rotating menu, it adds some much needed life into a spot that has been hurt over Covid, but also may hurt some locals as well.I had just dropped off my bike to get fixed on 19th and walking past the closed and being updated Duende, I saw new signs outside what I still thought was Flora until a helpful woman popped out and gave me the run down: the chef, Lala Harrison is making some new Cajun and Southern food, which was evident by the menu. It was interesting as it isn't split between lunch and dinner yet, with Steak Frites and Crab Boil listed on the menu above a fried catfish poboy and a fried chicken sandwich.I had been craving Masabaga, which is still figuring out if they want to be open for lunch or not, and their loss was Jusla's gain. I asked the others in line what they had ordered before and it sounds like we all just showed up. I ended up going with the very affordable and big cornbread and fried chicken sandwich. Now fried chicken is in overabundance in Uptown Oakland. In less than a mile radius you have World Famous Hotboys, Gus's World Famous Chicken, Catered 2 U, Krispy Krunchy Chicken, Popeyes, The Organic Coup, Quick Bite, Aburaya, Hopscotch, Sam's Crispy Chicken, Miss Ollie's, & Brown Sugar Kitchen, and that doesn't include spots that have fried chicken like Bhugay's, Belly, Taiwan Bento, Ike's and even Luka's has a fried chicken sandwich. That's a lot of competition, so you need to stand out. The chicken sandwich was good, but wouldn't say it is the best in the area. But her other items help. A Taco Tuesday night featuring burritos, enchiladas, and southern fusion tacos sounds interesting and I'm going to assume better than Xolo. The crab and garlic noodles look great, the lobster and pineapple fried rice dishes seem to give Trap Kitchen a run for their money (and seriously, what schmuck is ordering a $40 pineapple fried rice bowl?), so I feel they can carve themselves out a niche, but may be ahead of the curve when it comes to Uptown reopening. I can see Jusla innovating and evolving to stay in the area, and will support the changes. Hopefully they are the first of the new area and hopefully drive more support to the other spots in the area too."

Last time we hit up chef smells and yesterday it was bag I crab. Ordered the bag combo of mussels, shrimp both at one pound. They also included 2 corns and several slices of sausage with potato. $40.I was iffy as there were a LOT of bad reviews both online and from coworkers about this chain. I'm glad I was proven wrong! I went with Louisiana medium spice and it was perfect. All the shrimp and mussels were delicious. I ate the whole bag by myself with extras for work the next day. I cooked my own white rice to eat with it. Also it smelled so good that I didn't take a picture of food before eating just the fancy blue bag it came in. Added this to my DoorDash favorites!"

Anne C. "I came here around 2 AM on New Year's Day after an event in downtown San Jose. Surprisingly, there wasn't much of a wait--we only waited about 10 minutes for a table of four. I ordered the 3-pound seafood boil combo with 2 pounds of crawfish and 1 pound of clams. When the server let me know they were out of clams, I swapped them for mussels, and he even gave me 2 pounds of mussels to make up for it, which was awesome. I went with the original Louisiana sauce at a spicy level, and honestly, this was the best seafood boil I've ever had! The sauce was perfectly sweet and spicy, and the seafood tasted super fresh. Some of my crawfish even had eggs, which was a nice surprise! I don't usually get mussels in my boils since they're hit or miss, but these were so meaty, flavorful, and just perfect. Even better, none of the crawfish had that muddy taste you sometimes get at other spots.I love how this place is open til 4am, I sometimes be craving seafood boils at the most ungodly hours of the night. If the exterior painting and design don't grab your attention, just wait until you get inside. With all of the tables away due to shelter in place, you have a better view of the walls (pictures attached) that show celebrities from Oakland. In addition to the cool vibe, the food was delicious and hit the spot. I had the chicken and shrimp combo, which is just enough for two people when you take into account the sides. Make sure to add their lemon and hot sauces to the chicken; it's basically a palette waiting for these sauces to bring it to life. I'm sure you'll find a combination that you enjoy.I recommend eating it fresh, because some of the sides (like the fries) can get a bit cold if you don't eat them right away. Overall it was a very satisfactory meal at a reasonable price (around $25), so I'll definitely return.Bonus: if you're nice you might get some Kool-Aid on the house!"

Steve D. "1708 Webster St Alameda, CA 94501"Southern Comfort Kitchen" offers fast-casual Cajun food at fair prices. This new restaurant takes over the location of Kowloon Station, next door to Subway Sandwiches. They call it "fast-casual" food, but it's not fast food. I've been there twice, and wait times are about 10-15 mins. Of course it depends on how busy they are. I have seen customers leaving with 2-3 big bags of food. So this restaurant chain probably has a lot of fans already. Okay, my first visit was Friday night, Oct 4, around 9pm. I had to wait while a customer placed a huge order. I ordered the "50/50 Shrimp and Catfish w/ Cajun Fries." I took my order home and discovered they forgot the Cajun Fries. I drove back to the restaurant and asked for my fries. The young man at the counter said my order doesn't include Cajun Fries. He said there's a glitch in their new computer system that makes that mistake. I told him the menu says "with fries," my receipt says "with fries," and the order taker asked me how I wanted my fries (hard or soft). Then a voice from the back said "give him the fries." Folks, check your order before you leave. But how was the food? "50/50 Shrimp and Catfish w/ Cajun Fries" was very good! The Shrimp and Catfish were fresh and tasty. No fishy smell. The catfish meat was flaky and firm. The cornmeal batter had just the right seasoning. It's not salty. Those Cajun fries were excellent. They were worth going back for. Grade (5/5) for the food, Grade (2/5) for the service. My second visit was on a very warm Sunday. It was 12-noon, and temps were near 90*F. I met up with another Yelp Elite for lunch. I wanted to share opinions and observations about this place. Brett, the owner, was taking orders and thanking us for coming. The kitchen looked very busy. I ordered: "Crab Cajun Fries," Carrot Cake, and Unsweetened Ice Tea. The crab was fresh, moist, and not fishy. The Cajun Fries gave the dish a mildly salty taste. The carrot cake was moist, fresh, and the taste was perfect. The unsweetened tea needs to be a bit stronger to stand up to the ice. Food (4/5), Service (4/5), Decor (4/5). If you Dine-in, you might be served with real plates and silverware. MISC Tips:- Small shared parking in back. - The main entrance has steps. If that's a problem, use the parking lot entrance in back.- Small outdoor enclosed patio- Large screen TV in dining room- restrooms in rear of dining room. - has a drive thruOverall, a good experience, and I will return. It's a bit pricier than say, Cajun Crackin' in Milpitas, but the flavors are pretty good.We ordered mildly spicy SS House Special sauce *cajun, garlic butter, lemon pepper. Not hot, the hot link sausages were spicier. Go medium & beyond if spice is your life. Sauce is thicker here, like at Ray's Crab Shack.*Combo #1: 2 fresh crawfish +$4 & 1 shrimp (choose 3 lbs from shrimp, crawfish, clams, mussels) includes corn, potatoes, sausage*Combo #3: Dungeness crab + crawfish, shrimp, clams plain boil (choose either crab, snow crab legs, or lobster & 3 lbs from combo 1 options)*Dungeness crab plain boil: they give the option of cut/clean but without the main shell*Garlic Noodles: happy with this because of all the delectable garlic!I was a tad upset I found 3 inedible fresh crawfish (rubbery/easily crumbled with a sandy taste) but the rest of the 3lbs was fine. Shrimp was cooked well. The house special sauce had a slightly sweet taste that I'm not accustomed to with seafood boil.No wait at 5pm on a Saturday. Nautical interior with spacious seating. Staff is nice too. Waters were refilled, they checked on us, and also offer hot water to drink. I really enjoyed whoever's music playlist was playing on 5/20/23 around 5pm! I was able to make a reservation one day in advance for 7 people during peak dinner hours, and even called the same day to change our time with no issues whatsoever. They accommodated us right away and sat us even without my whole party present. Someone had called out, but we never even felt like service was slow or anything. This is a family owned and operated business, and we really felt like we were a part of that. Granted, we had quite a few shots, so alcohol tends to loosen up people but even without that, the whole staff were cool as heck. The food was delicious. Calamari (forgot to take a pic) was light and crunchy, served with cocktail and tartar sauces. The garlic noodles were super flavorful and stayed buttery. Some places tend to dry out and clump up, but not these! The seafood boils also had tons of flavor and spice. Medium was about as much as I could handle. Lol I think my absolute favorite dish was the Player's Plate. It comes with garlic noodles, 5 Tony's wings, 5 prawns and a huge catfish filet. Best bang for your buck, in my opinion. I would get that next time we go. And a special surprise was Tony's Style (Berkeley) was in the building. They were temporarily operating out of the space, so we had to get the shrimp and crab baguette. All that cheesy seafood goodness went perfect with our shots. Theresa B. "Since moving to the South Bay from New Orleans, I've been on the hunt for the seafood boil spot that reminds me the most of NOLA (my fave out there is Big EZ), and this is the place!! Like most seafood boil spots in CA, claw shack does Asian/cajun fusion style seafood, which is exactly what I was looking for. My go-to order is a pound of crawfish with the shambalang sauce, corn, and a side of garlic fries with extra garlic. - crawfish - usually frozen during the times I've ordered which is fine. The crawfish are a good size and don't taste overly frozen. Not mushy and have a nice bounce/chew while also not being too dry. - shambalang sauce - sooooo good. Perfect mix of savory and tangy with a hint of acidity. This sauce is what reminds me of Big EZ back in NOLA. So flavorful! - garlic fries - also soooo good, and another South Bay dupe for my fave seafood boil garlic fries in NOLA haha. The fries are so crispy yet also so perfectly seasoned. I like to save the sauce after I finish up my crawfish and dip my fries in them--this elevates the garlic fry experience so much. The restaurant itself is a bit small, but wait times usually aren't bad. A lot of times I'll skip that too and just order to-go online or through their app. Still tastes the same even after the drive home!"

However, the last two times we've ordered, the crab has been inedible. It had a strange smell and an unpleasant taste that made it impossible to eat. We initially gave them the benefit of the doubt, thinking it might have been because we ordered close to closing time, but that still doesn't justify serving old crab.Tonight, we decided to give them another chance, but unfortunately, the king crab was once again bad. You can see in the picture that it wasn't fresh, with an off texture. Additionally, the clam chowder tasted watered down, as if they had stretched it to make it last longer. We were really disappointed and ended up having to throw everything out except the shrimp. They changed owners a couple years ago and now have an interesting blend of traditional Cajun broil and Mexican food. The interior was also redone into more of a broil theme and there are plenty of TVs to watch the game. You still get to dump the bag on the table and make a big mess and every orders comes with a bib and gloves. The thing I love is they are ultra ultra consistent, the broils are always made to order so your seafood is freshly prepared. There are other Cajun broils where the crawfish or shrimp are cooked to mush from sitting in a giant pot a long time.Fried catfish and fries: We always get this and our little hack is not getting potatoes with our seafood and using dipping the french fries in the cajun sauce instead. The fish comes super super hot so be careful, we break it in half to let them cool down faster. Just writing this making me hungry for them. Shrimp + Snow Crab with Corn and Sausage: We'll get this medium or mild depending on our mood, it's always satisfying and hits the spot. If they forget utensils for the crab you can ask for scissors and a crab shell cracker, if you are advanced you can use parts of the crab to pick out meats from other parts. They have a rare taco here made of beef intestine I haven't seen anywhere else, these are prepared well and tender and look great with the distinct mini rings from slicing the intestines. First impression ... you walk in and immediately see the half circle bar and a wall lined with couches. A cute and vibey area to wait before being seated - they also had a DJ the Friday night we went. Despite having a reservation we had to wait a good 15-20 minutes to get seated. Once seated at the table, I was surprised that the menus looked like a school craft project ... scalloped edges made by those craft scissors ... laminated ... and strangely small. It looked like a dessert menu or an after thought. Service was surprisingly reasonable - food didn't take long at all. But looking at other pictures on yelp, their portions and plating are WILDLY inconsistent. We ordered the steak, Brussel sprouts, surf n turf Mac n cheese, 2 glasses of wine and cheesecake dessert. There wasn't anything to really brag about. Not the best, but definitely not the worst either. Steak was perfectly cooked, my boyfriend really liked the Mac. I wish the Brussel sprouts were on a plate and not a bowl because they eventually lost their crispy fry and became soggy. If I were to come back I'd likely go to the bar with my girls or come after work for a night cap. I say check them out at least once. Show this local business some love. It was fresh, moist and the meat was flaky. However, the tartar sauce wasn't tartar sauce. It was some sort of salad dressing, maybe ranch dressing? I paid for extra tartar sauce, and both containers were some sort of salad dressing. Now, the onion rings. I like my onion rings battered and deep fried. These rings were limp, soggy, and breaded.
