B & W's micro brew 5 pak pricing on par with whole foods. selection average. big bottles pricey and very little selection. store space is efficient, tightly configured.pour: boone anderson hopottin" ipa(22oz, 7%, 3.99+)-some bite, semismooth, easy buzzon draught:-rumored black & white is the liquor store open after 10 p.m. thus 3 stars.-during daytime hours, B &W kind of pricey.

So what is the deal with this store? Only a quarter of the building is the actual store space. What is going on in the rest of the building?

My friend stopped here to get smokes and water. It was clean, the cashier was nice. There's the usual bunch of presumably diabetic one legged guys in wheelchairs buying smokes and a 40. It's a bit of gritty life across the street from a shiny shopping complex and right by the expensive stores on Bay and Shellmound. Way to go, B&W for keeping it real in the 'hood.

This is another Oakland corner market but it is at a busy location and its a fairly large place located at the corner of 40th St. & San Pablo at the Oakland/Emeryville border. If you have read some of my other reviews about cona licka stos then you will know it like the other ones. One thing about Black & White is that it is pretty eye catching from the out side and they alway have some really cool mini building posters plastered on one of the sides of the building. Yesterday I noticed that the current posters are of Adam Lamberts new CD & several other very nice posters of Ms. call her "Janet" Jackson and of course a poster advertising some type of liquor. Now all you wanna be hood rats if you looking for yo "G" wear and you can't find it in Mt. View, you fo sho can find it in this sto:tshirts/hats/fake ass jewry, cd's by local smoklin rappers. Oh yeah, of course they have all the usual high priced groceries, an abundance of beer, liquor, cigarettes, swisher, and cRAzEee ass customers. And yep, someone is always askin fo a dollah.

As far as I know, Black & White Liquor is the only late-night alcoholic's option in Emeryville, as the rest of the town is usually asleep by 10PM. While I'd prefer to buy the same booze for 10-30% less across the street at Pak 'n Save, I don't always plan ahead and end up coming to the area too late. If I'm not mistaken, Black & White is open at least until 1AM while Pak 'n Save closes at midnight. Newbies shouldn't be deterred by the clerks' menacing expressions; in this neighbourhood, you've gotta have your "battle face" on all of the time. Also, don't be afraid of the spangers outside; though they would appreciate a contribution, they won't take it personally if you can't afford it now. Black & White offers a surprisingly vast selection of wine, though I am wary of certain inexpensive varieties collecting dust on the shelves. Many of these cheap wines aren't supposed to sit on the shelf for more than 3-5 years so always check the year and never get anything too old. Otherwise, this is your typical Oakland/Berkeley/Emeryville liquor store, stocking Frito-Lay snacks, Coca-Cola beverages, white tees, and other odd attire.
