Big Daddy’s Hawaiian BBQ

I recently ordered from Big Daddy's Hawaiian BBQ through GrubHub, and while the food was tasty, I can't help but feel disappointed with the value. What I received was about half the portion size shown in the pictures, which was a huge letdown. For $23 a plate, I expected much more--especially when it comes to Hawaiian BBQ, which is usually known for generous servings.The flavors were on point, so I can't fault the taste. But the portion size makes it hard to justify the price. If you're rich and don't care about getting your money's worth, this place might work for you. Otherwise, I'd suggest looking elsewhere for better value.

We were at Adeline's food hall (ghost kitchen) on a Saturday at noon and our 2 friends wanted to try Big Daddy's Hawaiian BBQ. So they ordered a large mixed plate using the QR Code. It took about 10-15 minutes before the food was ready. We didn't have to get it from a locker, because they called out names instead. That made it easy!LARGE MIXED PLATE ~ A choice of (2) proteins, sauce & side. We opted for BBQ steak, crispy fried chicken, Hawaiian BBQ sauce, and mac salad. This also came with Japanese rice. We got a good portion of food and it was made fresh and tasty. 4/5Too bad you can't sit down and enjoy this hot off the grill! So we stood with forks in hand and took a few bites before jumping back into the car and driving off to the public market, where there are nice spots to chow down and find more good food!

Their menu offers plate meals, sides, desserts, and drinks. As a commercial kitchen (aka "ghost kitchen"), they have no dining room. Everything is either takeout or delivery. On a Saturday, I happen to notice Big Daddy Hawaiian BBQ in San Mateo on Yelp. I did some research and discovered they had a location at the Adeline Food Hall. Doordash was offering a promo to try this new place, so I placed an order. I ordered: the Large Mixed Plate, which included two proteins, a side of rice, and a side of mac salad. The Large Mixed Plate is $19.00. I asked for BBQ Chicken and Fried Chicken. Anything else, you have to pay extra. I also selected Hawaiian BBQ Sauce. How's the food? This food tastes really good. The bbq chicken is moist and easy to eat. The fried chicken is moist and crisp. The rice is fresh and soft. The mac salad doesn't taste pre-made. Very good food. My chicken was served on a bed of rice. So when you pour the sauce over the chicken, it soaks into the rice. However, this food is pricey. The last time I was at Ono Hawaiian BBQ (Oakland) a BBQ Chicken meal cost around $13-14, and the servings were much larger. Big Daddy's Hawaiian BBQ does offer a smaller $15 plate. But they also charge 25 cents for fork/spoon and a napkin. Overall, the food is good, and the Adeline Food Hall has a nice location.

I ordered a Large Hawaiian BBQ plate. The description says double the scoop and I was left with small portion of chicken. Their pictures are super misleading and of course the delivery won't help me since they control the portion to say what the double portion is. I ended up eating bunch of rice for my dinner instead of chicken.

The food is exceptionally flavorful. The BBQ chicken is tender and easy to enjoy, while the fried chicken is both juicy and crispy. The rice is fresh and fluffy, and the mac salad tastes homemade rather than pre-packaged. Overall, the meal is quite impressive. My chicken was served atop a bed of rice, allowing the sauce to seep in beautifully when poured over. I chose BBQ Chicken and Fried Chicken, with any additional items incurring extra charges. I also opted for Hawaiian BBQ Sauce. In summary, the food is delightful. The Adeline Food Hall is situated in an appealing location. Service was good.

Ordered 2 mixed plates on uber; one w/ all chicken and one w/ steak and fried chicken . Food was overall average. It wasn't bad, just nothing to brag about. Seasoning was a bit boring and on the bland side. Everything felt dry besides the average sauces on the side. And the rice was very undercooked.
