Chef AC Boral works this spot and I've been a huge fan of his work in the past. Great to see what flavors what he brings in the Bay AreaAMBIANCE:Parking: Downtown Oakland was all mainly street parking. If you can, rideshare.Seating: Inside and patio seating. Good for small groups, room for maybe about 30 people total.Vibes: You're in Downtown Oakland. A grit and grind area that's partially getting gentrified but still maintaining a good amount of cultural roots. The spot itself is pretty cool. Eclectic with a lot of Asian culture from the anime playing in the background to its trinkets. FOOD:Pork Lumpia (Recommend)Served fresh and crunchy. The wrap was crunchy, portion was fulfilling, and the meat was pretty good. For something and comforting, this is your best bet.Chicken Kilawin (chopped meat) (Recommend)Delicious! Juicy chicken with a good balance such as red onion and chillies for a good kick, and dashed with soy sauce for a good savory kick.CUSTOMER SERVICE:AC and Dora were great! Friendly and personable people.TL; DR OVERALL:4.5 Stars. Admirable cause, delicious food, and a neat vibes. Community kitchens are hard to maintain from the eclectic surroundings. Props to the good work that AC and team does for the community. If you're in the area, this is a place worth checking out. #FilipinoFoodMovementTIPS:* Follow their IG for updates on the menu.

BHK was actually pretty good. I never really knew what it was when I would pass it by for a while. One night I decided to give BHK a try through TooGoodTooGo app. Here's what I learned. This is a pay what you can spot. It appears they feed the homeless, and that is commendable. I'm not sure of another place that does that but considering the high amount of homeless in the area, it warmed my heart to see that. The night I went in I picked up a beef stew. I hadn't had one in a while and it hit that hungry spot that warms you as soon as you eat it in the late fall/ early winter.

Got a chance to eat here during Baba's Party Market. With a maximum capacity of 25 people, this place was packed! We ordered the Grilled Chicken Sisig (charboiled chicken marinated in lemon, ginger, and garlic. Kewpie topping and salad), and a side of lumpia (+$3).I enjoyed their version very much! I wouldn't say it's 'just like how Mom used to make it,' but more like a delightful twist that pays homage to the traditional flavors while adding a modern flair. Also, take some time to admire the cool artwork on the walls. BHK has a really cool aesthetic and vibe to it!Anndd that's not all! Upstairs is Baba's House, which is a community event space and Asian snack shop! Once a week they host karaoke from 6pm-9pm AND a Mahjong night! Definitely worth checking out.

I literally made a yelp account to show you what they served me here. Worse than dog food. The website photos made the food looks appealing but the final product went straight to the trash.

Delicious food! Especially the pancake & secret sauce ;) Check out their twist on halo-halo. Longanisa Katsu - heard was a WOW! Ate here for a privately catered party (House of Gongs). Owners are cool! Good Vibes & Family friendly. If I knew about Baba's House I would have loved to see it b/c I call my husband, "Baba" and I'm all things Baba ;) Wishing them all the success while feeding people's bellies.

This place is awesome - it was unfortunately pretty empty on a Friday night and I wonder if it's just because it's new, because the food is really good and the guy who I assume is the owner is incredibly kind. There was me & a man I assume is unhoused hanging out in there, and the owner made him a plate of vegan food as he requested, and my chicken adobo plate with rice, pancit, and lumpia was hella good too. I hope more folks come in to support a small business with kind ownership and good food.

Posting for all my vegans so they know what they're getting into! I'm a vegan Filipina that just wants to eat authentic plant-based food. I'd say the tofu mushroom isn't bad but I've had better. It could use more flavor, but they were able to capture the texture of pork sisig (I like my sisig oniony and cooked with vinegar). This is definitely my go to when I crave sisig bc I've been really disappointed with the local Filipino restaurants literally REMOVING all of their vegan options. FOB was the only place I could go to these days, but their options are limited and not like a traditional style meal. My boyfriend got the chicken sisig and agrees that it could be better. I'll be adding my own soy sauce, vinegar and maybe some vegan patis.

Just happened to stumble into this place as they were closed but the owner Ace was kind enough to make us some of the filipino egg rolls - Lumpiang Shanghai. These were FIRE! These aren't your typical egg rolls that you've probably had at a Filipino party. These were different with his family's recipe that really made it stand out. Nothing gimmicky or "fusion" that you see at other places. 5 out of 5 Smackin! Owner was nice he said the pancit was a staple and he had some rotating spam burger and chicken skewers that I will be sure to try next time. Can't wait to try the ube cake and sisig! I think he said they cater as well. He told us to check out Babas House which was in the back upstairs. That's a whole nother review

I got the too good to go and thought the meal was pretty tasty. The flavor was a little spicy but not unacceptable. The portion is a little small than I thought but doable. The service was pretty good so I would come again.
