I ordered takeout from Bhan Mae Vane to eat with a few others. We ordered the following:Pad see wi with tofu - It's savory and tasted a lot like pad see ew to me, but the soy sauce is more on the light side.Pad per nor mai - This is their bamboo shoot stir fry dish. The sauce is nice, you can eat it with rice. I like the generous amount of bamboo. It also has cabbage, carrot, broccoli.BBQ beef short ribs - This is one of their specialty dishes. I didn't try it myself, but they definitely looked tasty.Overall, I thought the food was delicious and I appreciate that they have the option to choose the protein option which allows many dishes to be made vegetarian if you choose the tofu or vegetables option.

I was walking around Webster Street and came across this Thai/Laotian place. It looked super busy, but I was able to get a seat. I ordered chicken skewers, papaya salad, and pad se ew. I wasn't a huge fan of the chicken skewers--they seemed a bit stiff, but the pad se ew was really good. This was my first time trying papaya salad, so I'm not entirely sure how it's supposed to taste, but I thought it was delicious. I really liked how they added pork rinds and fresh veggies. However, I would definitely change the spice level. I ordered medium, and it was super spicy, even though I can usually handle spice. It felt like a different level of heat. Next time, I'll go with mild so I can still get a kick of spice without it being too overpowering. The service was great, and I loved the atmosphere. The interior had these beautiful lights on the ceiling, and the whole space was well thought out.

Went here on a Thursday night with my friend. We arrived before 7 pm and we were seated right away. It was our first time here and this place was recommended by all around my friends and my coworkers, that's why we decided to drive all the way to alameda. Food: 100/100 we ordered more than what we needed but it was worth it. We wanted to try different things and we ended up loving everything. Pork belly is a must. Papaya salad was soooo fresh and delicious. We loved the dishes with shrimps which were soooo fresh. Drunken noodle was awesome (but I will recommend you finish this instead of packing it home for left over, because the rice noodle will soak up liquids so fast and you don't want to eat that the next day). We ordered the red curry with beef and it was amazing too. We finished off with a green milk tea and mango sticky rice and the sweetness and the tartness had a great balance between them. Service was excellent. Very attentive even tho they were super busy that night. And last but not least, congratulations on getting on the Check Please, Bay Area show!!

So many people recommend this restaurant. I have been here twice now. I highly recommend the nam khao and sakoo. They have dishes that I never tried or seen at other Laotian restaurants, so the sakoo was completely new to me but still delicious! I tried the khao piek since the worker said it was one of the popular soups, but it was too bland for my taste. I would try the khao soy instead. Both times I have been here, it is sooo loud. This is NOT a good spot to catch up with people; I have to yell across the table lol. This place can accommodate very large groups of 10+ though. Overall, whenever I am craving Laotian food, I will get my fix here!

First heard about this place on Check Please and it totally lives up to the hype! We ordered the papaya platter and everything was amazing! It comes with Thai or Laotian style papaya salad. The Laotian one has shrimp paste and the Thai one has fish sauce and peanuts. The mild was still a little spicy for me but toned down with the cabbage and noodles and pork rinds it was great! It also comes with 3 meat options, we got the fried wings, crispy pork belly, and beef jerky, all delicious! The menu says this dish may take 30 minutes to prepare; we only waited about 20 but we also came right when they opened. I loved our meal and would love to come back to try more dishes!

A hidden gem in Alameda serving up some of the East Bay's most authentic and flavorful Asian cuisine. If you're looking for genuine flavors that lean toward the savory side (especially compared to sweeter Thai interpretations), you've found your spot. The space itself is wonderfully open and inviting, with an visible kitchen in the back that adds to the transparent, authentic feel. The all-women staff runs a tight ship, maintaining attentive service even during the busiest rushes. Yes, it gets bustling and the noise level can challenge conversation when full, but that's just testament to their well-deserved popularity. They've thoughtfully included both table and booth seating, plus a big TV for sports fans.Let's talk food - their Crispy Spring Rolls are a must-try, perfectly complemented by fresh lettuce wraps and herbs. The Green Curry hits all the right notes, and their Pad Thai leans beautifully savory rather than sweet. For something unique, try their green tea variation on Thai iced tea - a delicious twist on the classic. A huge plus: they accommodate dietary restrictions, including gluten-free Pad Thai upon request.Pro tips:- They only take in-person wait list sign-ups- During peak times, expect 10-30 minute waits- Parking can be challenging on busy days- Portions are generous, justifying the slightly higher prices- They offer delivery for those nights you can't snag a tableWorth noting: while the prices might seem a bit high at first glance, the portion sizes more than make up for it. I've become such a regular that I alternate between dining in and delivery, and the quality remains consistent across both.Coming from someone deeply familiar with Filipino cuisine, their flavor profiles are spot-on for those seeking authentic Asian flavors. This place has earned its status as one of my top picks in the entire East Bay area. The occasional wait and energetic atmosphere are small prices to pay for food this good.

Wow! Such an amazing menu filled with so many different foods from Thailand and Laos! We ordered the papaya salad which was really good and came with a nice portion! We also ordered the pad Thai which hit the spot and a special sort of mochi textured ball with meat inside. You're supposed to wrap it up with lettuce and a bunch of other veggies, it was AMAZING! I loved how everything tasted so fresh and authentic!

This place has been on my radar for a bit now, finally got to try it and it was smackin! The portions are big here so it is great for large groups sharing. We ordered 4 dishes with 2 heads and it was def too much, but we wanted to try a few new things recommend by the super friendly server. Papaya salad, Lao sausage, pineapple friend rice and these stuffed tapioca balls (recommended). Everything was so bomb and the leftovers were still . Will for sure be back to try more dishes and bringing back up (more friends)

Stopped in on a whim after a quick search on Yelp! for some Thai food in Alameda, and came across this place, which serves up Thai and Lao cuisine. We put our name on the list and our party of 2 was called in after ten minutes. It seemed a bit noisy, but we got a nice corner table at the back, and we were able to converse comfortably without having to strain. We tried the Chicken Pad See Ew, Eggplant Pad Mak Kuer with Tofu, and Sakoo which is a specialty dish of steamed savory tapioca balls stuffed with ground pork, peanuts, sweet radishes and shallots, served with lettuce, chili pepper, and fried garlic. We enjoyed the Pad See Ew and Eggplant dishes, which were full of flavor and prepared without too much grease. The Sakoo was new to us, and frankly we were a bit underwhelmed. I am sure the dish was prepared well; it just wasn't something that appealed to our palate since it had more subtle flavors. The service was good, and I would come back again to try some other menu items. Street parking wasn't too bad - we found a spot 2 blocks away on our first pass.

Cute family style place with a lot of seating in Alameda, the place was packed when we got there on a Friday night but we were able to sit our party of 3 quickly within 5 minutes. The food here is really, really good. We ordered the papaya platter with angel wings (sweet chili wings), sausages, and crispy pork belly -- you choose the meats you want; it comes with papaya salad - thai or lao style with more fish sauce - and sticky rice. We also ordered the fried rice rolls. Everything was really solid & super delicious & I'd recommend and reorder the dishes we ordered except our crispy pork belly was a little dry for me. The papaya salad (we ordered Lao style) the platter comes with is great. The papaya platter at around $70 is more than enough for 3 people, and we took home leftovers that fed another 3 people. It's a pretty good deal for coming in with a family.I'm definitely coming back here regularly.
