So I woke up Sunday morning after Valentine's Day and said to W, how about we go the Benicia for breakfast? He didn't hesitate to say sure, where? Now, I'm not a big breakfast person, but I wanted brunch. Pancakes, so I thought. But more than our usual latte and a pastry or small egg snack. I looked on Yelp and found Baxters and was immediate interested in the crab cake Benedict. What pancakes?! And so we were off. Once in town, we also considered another location on the waterfront with views--which was open earlier. Also has crab cake Benedict. But 3.3 stars vs 4.7 on Yelp, so wait we did. I know, long intro--let's get to it!Baxters is a tiny place! I was too late for reservations, but we always enjoy eating at the bar, and while it sits maybe eight, we had it to ourselves when we arrived about 15 minutes after opening. The bartender was immediately engaging, and I started asking about the crab cake Benedict's, and, ooooh! The shrimp and grits! Soon discovered that said delightful bartender is also the owner, so I got the dets on many dishes. The dishes have a distinct NOLA flare, and we love NOLA! Ok, I'm still rambling--pancakes are ancient memories, and now the Benedict is off my list, replaced by the creamy, two-cheese grits topped with perfectly grilled prawns and a moat of oh-so-delish sherry-based gravy with a blend of secret spices. It. Is. So. Good! W had the croissant french toast with bourbon maple syrup. The dish had a perfect amount of cinnamon and sat atop a thick lemon cream sauce that was oh, so, delectable! And paired perfectly with fresh blueberries! We also had oat milk lattes with our meal, which were delicious! But most guests were imbibing in the many flavors of champagne cocktails the establishment offered. Baxters menu is an all-day menu except for Sundays, when that menu is enhanced by the Sunday Brunch offerings. We can't wait to go back for dinner in "The Office"--which is a Speakeasy section of the restaurant that seats only eight. (Reservations required. Book for up to four on Open Table. Call if you want six or eight.) Looking forward to trying the scallops with garlic mash! If you're a local and haven't yet been to Baxters, (new owners just 1.5 years ago), run, don't walk! And enjoy!

There is something special happening on First St in Benicia! Baxters is blossoming into an institution. This little restaurant and cocktail lounge is serving up class, classic cocktails and seriously delectable dishes. I can't get over our dining experience. My wife and I spent a special Valentine's Day meal at Baxters. Our meal started with the Brie Croute. The balance of pastry, balsamic, fig and Brie was outstanding. We both chose the Beef Wellington as our main course. The puff pastry was perfectly done, the beef tender and rare, the veggies perfectly presented and the mash smooth and buttery. The kitchen obviously has talent! All was sublime as we enjoyed a few different cocktails(mine were NA as I can't have any alcohol). The service was spot on and friendly. The ambiance was celebratory and full of happy patrons. I totally loved the vibe! We will be back.

This is probably one of the closest establishments to fine dining we have in Benicia. The atmosphere is definitely more upscale. It's more of a special occasion place. Parking is fairly easy. The restaurant itself is very small (5-6 tables) so I see why reservations are recommended. We came here on a weekend for an early dinner because we saw they have beef Wellington! We were lucky and since we came right at opening we were able to get a table without reservation and also order beef Wellington. They only had three left. Service was impeccable. We were kept updated on the status of our food. Service was friendly. We ordered the scallops as well as the beef Wellington. For dessert we had the tuxedo cake and the bread pudding. All of the food was delicious and cooked perfectly! The beef Wellington did not disappoint although it was a bit pricy at $60 each. I left feeling stuffed and very happy with our experience. I could see us coming back to Baxters for a date night.

Celebrated NYE 2024-2025 at Baxters Restaurant What an AMAZING experience. A pre-fixe menu provided a delicious choice of options for carnivores to vegetarian-vegans alike. A picture is worth a thousand words but the tastes in real life are fantastic. This wonderful private event reminds me how wonderful and how going to Baxters is a must in 2025 during, linch and brunch. You'll want to have this on your to-do in 2025. The bonus was seeing how beautiful downtown Benecia is during the holidays. Add Baxters to your bookmarks and go!

Went in for lunch over the weekend and was very impressed. The owners were incredibly friendly and provided great hospitality. My friend and I split the lamb meatballs and the Baxter burger. They were amazing, the sauce on the meatballs really complimented them and the burger was perfectly cooked with a great flavor. We also ordered cocktails, I went with a classic French 76 and it was nicely done. They actually crafted a brand new drink for my friend which she loved. The restaurant itself was well decorated and had a really chic vibe. I would be interested to join for dinner, I saw they have a whole speakeasy area too.

Really great! What a unique add to this quaint street in Benicia. Perfect for a party of 4. It's a small space, optimumly placed 5 or 6 tables of 4. There is a speak easy room through a mysterious curtin, which seats one larger group.Let us move on to the food!Scallops, perfectly cooked! Perfectly seasoning too. Only critique would be, don't serve luke warm. I would still order them again tho ;)Filet mignon was perfectly seasoned & cooked. Delicious!Gumbo style pasta, scrumptious.Drinks: old fashion was great! Side car needs a sugar rim.The bartenders/owners were wonderful and very thoughtful. If we lived in Benicia, they would see us weekly, I'm sure. I suggest: reservations; don't bring a big bag, nor large coats and be ready for a delicious, well thought out meal.

Stopped by Baxter after dinner for a drink, having heard they serve the best in town. My wife and I were warmly greeted upon arrival and even got a quick tour of the VIP room, "The Office." I had the chance to briefly meet the owner, great people and excellent drinks. I'll definitely be coming back with some friends for a great time!
