I hate to start off the new year with a less than stellar review, but there it is. A friend of ours treated us to brunch at Assemble. We had expectations of having a nice dining experience experience but ended up disappointed.Their winter hours posted on their website list Saturday and Sunday 11:00 am - 4:00 pm. Arrived about 11:15am and they were not open. Another customer waiting at an outdoor table and said they were opening at 11:30am. When we finally stepped in, they said to choose anywhere we wanted. We chose a tall table between the kitchen and bar. The room seemed uncomfortably cold inside. There was one heater we could see that was on, which was in the kitchen area. We ordered and our food server started us off with coffee, a small pitcher of milk (was not offered half and half) and a bottle of water for the table. We watched as the kitchen put up plates of food in the service area where they sat for several minutes. Eventually our plates were brought to the table. The plates themselves were cold. Our friend took two bites of her now lukewarm soup and sent it back to be reheated. She seemed okay with the sandwich, I didn't think to ask how it was. Hubby finished his breakfast - potatoes, bacon, sourdough toast and eggs over easy. In retrospect, he wished he had some jam to go with his toast but he didn't think to ask, and it wasn't offered. The California Benedict was disappointing. My food looked appetizing on the plate but it was not very delicious. The egg yolks were jammy, not runny at all, and the Hollandaise sauce was flavourless. The country potatoes were were tasty enough but they were not "country". They had a thin, gold crunchy coating that you find on frozen, battered potato fries, but in our case they were potato cubes. I still ate everything on my plate, because 1) it would have been wasteful not to, and 2) I was just plain hungry. Our food server was friendly and courteous but our food was a hit and miss overall. Maybe their burgers are better, will have to check it out. With only ten items on the menu, everything should be on point! It was fairly quiet, the dining room might have gotten half full the 1-1/2 hours we were there. Afterward, we took a stroll around the pier and hung out for a bit by the water, enjoying the sun.

The cheeseburger and impossible burger were delectable! So juicy! And the giant pickle was a plus.Service was a little slow on a Sunday (many people were watching the 49ers play). I wish there were a way to order inside and then sit outside, that way you at least get your order in instead of waiting for someone to take it. Our server was very kind and thoughtful (offered us a high chair for our baby) and was very on top of things for it having been his second day on the job!

Food - 4Service - 3Value - 4I would rate this overall 4-star if you are eating here so that you can get a pass to the Columbia Employee Store around the corner (discounted gear), and just 3 stars if that is not important to you.I had the Grilled Chicken Pesto sandwich which had generous portions and some fries, which also had generous portions too. Service was a tad on the slow side, and the food took longer than it should have as well.

I keep wanting this place to be better than it is. Located next to the Craneway Pavilion at the historic Ford Assembly Plant, the warehouse space has gone through a few iterations in the past few years including a more upscale eatery also named Assemble (review: https://yelp.to/BNY3yiTTZX). Now the menu is more like a Shoney's or even an IHOP down to the pancakes.Still feeling like a big turbine room, the restaurant itself has a testosterone-driven vibe that makes liquor and bar bites understandable as the main attractions. Jamie W. and I first came here three months ago to have cocktails and chips during a walk on the Richmond Marina. Jamie had the $17 Waterfront Margarita made with tequila, lime juice, agave, and Grand Marnier float.I went for the $16 Riveting Rosie with gin, lemon juice, agave, and strawberry purée. Both were fine but just look at the picture (photo: https://yelp.to/axrWcYFKzn). The unsipped glasses were only 2/3 full! We shared the $12.99 platter of Chips, Salsa and Guacamole (photo: https://yelp.to/0q6Nzp-Cii). It was pretty standard and seemed pricy for the serving size. Well, I came back by myself today and decided to try lunch here.I started with the same Waterfront Margarita Jamie had and this one was gratefully filled to the rim (photo: https://yelp.to/Z-LJw8VFZE). I ordered the $13.99 New England Style Clam Chowder with Toast (photo: https://yelp.to/4xlnhEw_cu). The chowder was a bit on the thin side, but the toast was aces and great for dipping. The $12.99 Lemon Pepper Wings were way overseasoned, and the watery ranch dressing didn't help (photo: https://yelp.to/DSyDyNVDDK). Yeah, I wish it was better.FOOD / DRINKS - 3 stars...food was lacking with the chowder and toast the best itemAMBIANCE - 4 stars...the coolest part of the experience SERVICE - 2.5 stars...very scattered, multiple servers, not well organizedTOTAL - 3 stars...middling for all its wasted potentialRELATED - Exploring Richmond? Spent the day visiting a couple of excellent Nurseries in Richmond and checked out this food spot for lunch on the water. The people were so friendly & helpful!.Brunch/lunch menu- got the french dip and a draft beer. Super delicious but not traditional- it was made with burger meat yet tasted amazingly similar. Highly recommend. My friend got the fish & chips which was my 2nd choice and she said it was so good. Worth driving out to if you are in the area. Interesting to see the water view to the city and all the different cities on the bay from there. It is in a large airy old? Building that is spacious but not echoey or cold. We got a nice booth table and it was very comfortable on a mixed rainy/sunny day. The vibe is nice and relaxed and located right next to the Rosie the Riveter museum.

This space has been home to several restaurants and I think this model works much better. It's now one entity inside the space with sit down service. We ate at the bar and our bartender Haley was very friendly. Enjoyed an Autumn Sangria and chicken and waffles. Delicious dish!I've always enjoyed this area and hope this place has long success.

Came in on a Saturday as a midpoint for our bike-ride on the bay trail. Tucked away next to the Rosie the Riveter national park site.Atmosphere was nice, large windows let lots of light in and the old factory setting was homie. Typical American bar food which was pretty good. I got the french dip which had a rather large crusty bread which wasn't my favorite, but the flavor was still delicious. Fries were on point. Not super crispy, but enough and perfectly salted. My biggest gripe was the service. I had one lady with long curly hair straight up ignore my requests twice. The first time as we sat where I asked for a high chair. 10 min later with no high chair I asked someone else for it and got it promptly. Maybe she didn't hear me, I try to give her the benefit of the doubt. But a little later I asked for an additional plate and silver wear set as she passed and she acknowledged my request, and just never brought it. Didn't ask someone else to bring it, I just watched her straight up ignore my request. 10 min later I ask another server who brought it promptly.3 stars for food that was fine but with terrible service.I probably won't come back on my own, but would give this spot one more chance if someone else wanted to come.

Ordered to go. It was fairly quick and tasty burger on a rainy day. Lots of people eating there before 4pm closing. Open and lit floor plan because they are inside the old Ford Assembly Plant which was essential to building Jeeps for WWII. The restaurant is next to the Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front Visitor Center and a Pickleball club. Also around the corner is the Columbia Sportswear Company "Employee Store" -invite only. You can pickup a "ticket" to enter the store from Rosie or the restaurant. Win-win all around!
