This place is neat and it's a nice place to discover local designers. The original works here are decently priced --pretty reasonable actually. You can find a lot of modern artwork here as well as smaller works such as jewelry, cards, magnets and whatnot. The walls are covered from wall to wall with work.I didn't buy anything myself but it was nice to browse around. It'd be a nice place to find a gift for the art lover that you know.

A friend of mine paints there, and I have met other artists there who are very talented and consider friends, although they're really more of acquaintances because I only see them at the gallery. You know what I mean....A very large space, much larger than most galleries, and it's a working gallery, with artists painting amid the displayed works.Gera, the owner, is really cool and friendly.A great place to see a lot of very creative art and talk to artists as they create. They have a lot of events, usually on Saturday nights, which are always really fun, with music and good food and wine/beer/sodas/water. Plus, there's a huge free parking lot adjacent to the gallery, so parking is usually no problem. It's well worth checking out.I'm there often, and it's a great place to kind of just hang out.Buy some stuff and support the artists! It'll brighten up your home and help the arts.

This studio is pretty dang cool. You can wander through and look at all the artist's different works and you can buy them if something tickles your fancy. The curator? owner? sponsor? manager? whomever, was nice, helpful and invited us to an upcoming event. This place has some damn fine artists who are producing some damn fine pieces. Just a little difficult to navigate through and the artwork is hung salon-style (which I like), but all the way to the ceiling, which makes viewing the higher up pieces nearly impossible since you can't step back far enough to get a good look. This is a working studio, so you can actually speak to the artist that created your piece!

The first thing that invites you to this neighborhood is the eclectic vibe of art and commerce intermingled, places to pop in for a drink, for home decor and art to lift your spirits. 4th Street Studio welcomes you in against any feeling you might have that the facade is impersonal in that 'new/fake space' way - after all this is a working space with the unique opportunity to buy directly from the artist. The artists here are paying to be here so remember that when you talk about pricing. The creative process has it's prices that we often overlook. This is local art by local artists and runs the gamut as a working studio so you get to interact with people while perusing the paintings to wearables, pottery and what you call nick-nacks or brickabrack is available for sale. It is a little packed together but that's not really a problem. I don't remember seeing much in the way of prices but I didn't have money in my pocket either but others have commented enough on that to give you an idea. If you're a window shopper - enjoy; otherwise consider supporting arts and artists in an era when artists are starving because so many people think they should get art for free, pay later, don't pay at all. This is a big space so expect to have your walking around time if you choose though the staff seemed approachable and will check on you. Go there, be in the space, let the art speak to you - it will if you're listening.

This is a wonderful studio that displays the work of about 30 artists. You will find some of them working on their creations as you walk through the space. You can watch them work and some even chatted with us. It was a really great experience. It has one of the largest selections of original artwork in the Bay Area and there are many beautiful pieces there.

Great place to shop for original art. The artists work from the gallery so you have the opportunity to meet them and get their perspective on their work. Wide selection of styles to choose from. Reasonable prices, and if you're a serious buyer don't hesitate to negotiate if the price is holding you back.

A great place to buy local art and to meet local artists. Very unique! Awesome hand crafted jewelry too. It's the same gallery that used to be down the street among all the shops. Now it's under University Ave. on the "up and coming" block of businesses by the Amtrack station.

I have met many of the artists at 4th Street Fine Art that actually work on site! Its still has a gallery feel and they even offered me food and drinks while I was there. Such great art right off 4th Street. My favorite artist was ShawNshawN's geometric paintings and Prabin Badhia's amazing figurative work! Prabin offered to draw me for only $25 as well.

I love 4th Street Studios. With 40 different artists, there are so many different pieces of work to enjoy and I love having a chance to watch the artists at work. The lighting in there during the day is great and the work is constantly changing so it's worth coming back again. Unlike most places in Berkeley, there's a free parking lot right in front to make life even easier.I first discovered 4th Street Studios while they were hosting a great fundraiser, "Positively Aging," supporting the Adult Day Services Network of Alameda County. The organization provides a variety of services to frail seniors and many of the artists have donated pieces of their work and time to be involved with this event and organization. For more information about this year's event on September 13th, check out www.adsnac.org/annualevent/annualeventFINAL2.html
