Oak City Fish and Chips

Oak City fish and chips is probably the best place for fish and chips in Raleigh! The fish is tender, and fried to perfection! Even their fries are perfect! And the price isn't too bad considering the amount of food they give you. I'm glad that they have an indoor restaurant space now and not just the food truck.

No. Just no.It has to be difficult to fry fish when you're doing it in a food truck. There are a lot of variables to consider. I think it can be done though, as there are some that do it well. Here, not so much. This was inexcusably bad. I like not-fried fish as my first choice, but when I do get fried, the one thing I don't want is overcooked, dry fish. So what did I get? Overcooked, dry fish. I didn't see that on the menu, but there it was on my plate. So I guess it must be part of the secret menu.The fries were cooked better than the fish. They were quite good. At least for the first few bites. And then the sugar (it tasted like sugar) that was part of the seasoning began to overpower the spices. Maybe it was just a bad day for my taste buds. But no. just no.

It was the season of Darkness. It was the spring of hope. It was the winter of despair.Let me tell you the story of two different food trucks that serve fish, calamari, shrimp, and fries. One of these food trucks has an incredibly talented cook behind the counter. He nails the cook times perfectly every single time. Sometimes, the ingredients aren't necessarily the freshest, but his perfect cook time makes up for this.Then, there's a food truck with an employee that either doesn't care or is simply incompetent. This employee has shockingly never gotten the cook time right. He will always overcook your seafood and undercook your fries. Now, these two food trucks are, of course, both Oak City Fish and Chips. When Trevor is behind the counter, Oak City Fish and Chips is an amazing place to eat. He is very good at his job and delivers perfectly-executed food. This easily makes up for any shortcomings in the freshness/quality of the ingredients (and believe me, there are plenty).When not-Trevor is behind the counter, I frankly hate this place. I think the platters at Oak City Fish and Chips are fairly priced, but they're certainly not cheap. When not-Trevor is behind the counter, I can rely on paying $10 for a meal that I will not enjoy. When not-Trevor is behind the counter, this place suffers a lot. I used to be able to rely on Trevor being behind the counter M-TH in Downtown Raleigh, but I haven't seen him in a while. If Trevor returns, or if they finally get rid of not-Trevor, then this place will be worth going to again. Unfortunately, I confirmed that Trevor isn't coming back, so.... Idk, avoid unless they fix it?

Consistently friendly, accommodating, and fried to order. Only reason I didn't give it a five is because I can't have it every day. We loaded up got fish, scallops, shrimp, oysters and the lobster Food is fried perfectly and to order, seasoning is rich with a light spice (it's hard to explain but it's good). All the fish is fresh, juicy, sweet, and finger licking good.

Was excited to try Oak City at their pop up today in Charlotte. Traveled out of my way in the rain to be met with rude customer service and overly salted food. Asked about the size difference between the small and large baskets and the girl taking orders acted like I was inconveniencing her for even asking. We're good on y'all coming to Charlotte.

I got 6 pieces of over fried shrimp with a hand full of fries for $16, no drink included. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Never stopping by again. I can't justify the quality or quantity for what you get.

Anyone visit the food truck at the state fair and get an incorrect order or charged incorrectly? My parents did and I have tried to communicate with the company over email and messenger with no response. When my parents (late 70's) ordered two fish plates at the window after waiting in the long lines they had no idea they were charged $ 77.94 for two lobster pops and one fish basket. Their receipt was offered via text - paper was out. When they picked up their food they picked up the two fish baskets they ordered. Once they were on the train home they got the notification from their bank of the $77.94 charge. We have now gotten the receipt from the bank.Realize this is a bit of a strange situation and on top of it at the fair. Sounds like they were completely overwhelmed with business and chaos with orders but it would be nice to see them do the right thing here. My parents did NOT order lobster pops. They are more than happy to pay for what they ordered and received but someone would have to communicate with us. At the time I am writing this - they have NOT done the right thing here. Just be careful and be sure that you ask for a receipt if you order from these guys.

Sub par food on a good day. I can't recommend this establishment for anything. I'm honestly amazed that they are still in business.
