A Hidden Gem for Authentic, Affordable EatsYing Kee is one of those rare, old-school spots that keeps things simple yet satisfying. While the interior may look a bit aged, the food speaks for itself--delicious, hearty, and incredibly budget-friendly. Every dish is packed with authentic flavors, reminding me of the comfort food I grew up with. I come here often with my mom and auntie, and it always feels like a warm, familiar place where the service is straightforward and the portions are generous. If you're looking for a no-frills, tasty meal that won't break the bank, Ying Kee is the place to be!

387 9th St Oakland, CA 94607Ying Kee is an old school Chinese restaurant in the heart of Oakland Chinatown. I was walking by on a chilly day, and decided to go in for a hot bowl of Wor Won Ton Soup. The lady was on the phone, and she waved me in and told me to sit anywhere. The interior is outdated and a bit of a dive. I could tell this was a legit chinese restaurant because there were no forks on the tables. I ordered Wor Won Ton Soup, Potstickers, and hot tea.Service was quick and attentive. I was served Seafood Wor Won Ton Soup. Price $13.50. Just one look told me I should of ordered something else. Maybe I should of asked for noodles? Not much for $13.50. Maybe 5 dumplings, regular broccoli, fish cakes, fish balls, and some pieces of fish. The potstickers looked exactly like the frozen ones I got from Amazon Fresh. Total bill: $21.Will I return? Yes, I will return and order something like Tomato Beef Chow Mein, and see how it turns out. Hopefully I have a better experience. Street parking

Food: The food is amazing. I have a very sensitive stomach, but I've never gotten sick from the restaurant's dishes. Everything is always so tasty and healthy, and I can taste the freshness of the ingredients.Service: The ladies at the restaurant are very nice, friendly, and patient with customers. It's always a comfortable experience eating here.Ambiance: It feels like home! Being surrounded by elderly Cantonese grandmas and grandpas in the restaurant makes me feel like I'm still at home. They mostly play Cantonese music, which adds to the cozy atmosphere.

We ordered take out from the 3 dishes for $38.99 menu. We've walked by this place several times and decided to try it.We ordered:1) tofu and mushrooms and bok choy, only disappointment was how few mushrooms there were (maybe 6 pieces)2) eggplant with pork - not bad if you like eggplant, good portion of pork3) salt and pepper fish - tasty but only about 12 pieces of fishOrder included house soup which was broth with some carrots and a pieces of oxtail. Broth could use a little more flavor for my test. For $38.99 (not including tax) - it's not a bad deal. The menu has quite a few options and we had a tough time picking 3 dishes. We cooked our own rice to supplement. We would probably try it again and pick some other dishes. It was after 1:00 on a Sunday and it was about a 10-15 minute wait -not too bad since there were about 12 other customers eating in the restaurant.Lady serving us was nice.

I come here pretty frequently and I usually the chao chow ho fun. One reason I come here if the low price and nice staff. It's not too busy in here so you won't feel rushed and can enjoy your food at a slow pace without needed to rush. The portions are also pretty big for the price. You would probably pay around $15+ anywhere else. However, you do get what you pay for. The soup is bland and doesn't have any flavor, you have to season it yourself with the condiments at the table. Other than that the rest of the dish is flavored and delicious, you just need to season the soup yourself. The variety of meat balls give different textures with the fish ones being softer and the beef balls having more of a bite to them. My favorite part of this dish is of course the kidney. It's definitely not everyone's cup of tea but it's delicious to me. It's not metallic at all and has a nice bite to it. I would recommend this dish for sure!

Their food is so good! I totally forgot to take any dishes! We got an order of their egg and shrimp chow fun. This was absolutely delicious. It's been a few weeks since I've eaten here and still crave it. We got some sort of stir fried lamb (forgot the official name they call it). That was pretty good. We got a bowl of rice to share. We finished it all! The tea was lukewarm, but the tea pots they use are pretty old. It is what it is, given how old this restaurant is. There was one staff taking orders and bringing food to you so be patient. I have never used the restroom here so can not tell you what to expect but I would suggest you to hold it or just pee before you come lol Will always come back!

My grandparents love coming here to eat so I decided to tag along with them today for lunch. I grew up in Chinatown and believe it or not, I've never dine here before! This hole in the wall is super affordable and the food is decent. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive! We ordered the scrambled egg with shrimp chow fun, a bowl of won ton soup, stir fry leek and lamb dish, and fried tofu with cod. The dishes came out quickly and I am so glad the food was not oily or salty. I don't think they use any MSG since I didn't have to drink much water afterwards. Bonus point there! Prices range between $10-14 which is super affordable nowadays!

We wanted to try the 3 dishes special (3 dishes for $38.99) - for take out. So we ordered salt & pepper fish, eggplant with pork and mushrooms with tofu and veggies.1) Salt & Pepper Fish - had a little kick to it that was unexpected. We got about 11 pieces. 2) Eggplant with pork - not a fan of eggplant but ordered it since our granddaughter wanted to try it (her vote after tasting it was - thumbs down). But the hubby liked it.3) Mushrooms with tofu and veggies - the grandkids love the mushrooms and tofu. I counted maybe 7 pieces of mushrooms (some whole and some halves) which is not a lot.Our order came with a tub of house soup. Again this was well liked by the grandkids. It was a broth with some veggies (ie. carrots, bamboo shoots)We'll probably try other dishes next time.

Wanted to try soup wonton but changed my mind and ended up ordered the 3-dish lunch special for $38.99 for the three of us.Service was good and attentive but the food was just so so. We ordered fish in clay pot, Mongolian beef, and string beans. The food tasted okay and nothing jumped out. The string beans dish has lots of meat in it, kind of like eating the Mongolian beef. We also ordered a bowl of rice, which didn't seem to be freshly cooked. Tasted like an overnight item and got heat up to serve. Will pass this business until hearing some good reviews.
