It's changed to Jungdon Katsu. We used to love the sushi here when it was Taru. After the change, the food, service, and overall vibe is not the same. It feels understaffed, unfriendly, and as if less care's gone into the upkeep and decor. Also, the menu now focuses on fried cutlets vs. sushi. We used to come for celebratory events but the whole vibe just feels sterile, somber, and like a fast food establishment. It's just different now, sad to give this once amazing place this new rating.

Taru sushi is our go-to place for a celebratory family dinner. The quality of fish and seafood and the generous size of sashimi are unmatched.Always friendly, attentive stuff. Try their hotate and hamachi nigiri.

This review is just for the Jungdon Katsu that is also in the same business as Taru Sushi because I only tried their Katsu. Can't say how Taru sushi's quality is but I'd love to try next time. I ordered their $34 combo chicken Katsu that comes with a bowl of udon (or you can choose soba), corn salad, cabbage salad, and rice. The portion size was just right for my daughter and myself that we ate literally everything and satisfactorily full. It is the best katsu I have had so far in my many katsu experiences. It is light, fluffy, crispy while juicy at the same time and the dipping sauce is just right. Next time I'd love to try their pork katsu. Every table tonight ordered katsu as what I observed. No wonder their katsu is featured at SF chronicle (that is how I found this place). Would love to visit again and take a drive.

This cozy Japanese restaurant tucked away at the end of a little court is a hidden gem. The decor is very simple, but clean and comfortable. They also have some outdoor seating. For two adults and a seven year old child, we ordered a tempura udon, an edamame, a dragon roll, a tataki roll, 8 pieces of salmon sashimi, an order of toro nigiri, and an order of hamachi nigiri. Prices might seem a little high, but the quality and quantity of the food made up for it. The sashimi cut was extremely generous, each piece was more than half an inch thick. And instead of 8 pieces, we were given nine! And for the toro nigiri, instead of two pieces we were given three plus a small piece of sashimi. The hamachi nigiri was also really nice and big with a small amount of rice. Fish was really fresh and of high quality. The tempura udon came with a large plate of tempura. Besides two pieces of shrimps, there were yam, onion, eggplant, broccoli, green bean, and kabocha. There were also these fried tofu puffs in the noodles. The soup was slightly salty. The two rolls were both very tasty.Service was good especially because we were given extra food! Too bad I forgot to take pictures until we were almost done. I do recommend Taru Japanese Sushi & Cuisine.

I've been here locally many times and it's my first review. Pretty good sushi but I'm more so here for the other restaurant named Jung Don Katsu because their Katsu is super crispy and tasty.

Been here a few times and a couple times before the Pandemic. It is a small scale , quaint little Sushi spot. I like the food here and it very low-key, but great. We went in the middle of the week. but I was able to get reservation. I let them know it was a special occasion, so they accomodated us. We had a surprise roll of Hamachi Yellow tail as a wedding anniversary bonus.. Wifey had a bubbly and the Sashimi and Chicken Teriyaki c plate portion wise were large. Definitely a nice place for indoor or patio seating for good food and causal vibes for lunch and dinner.

Not quite what I expected for fancy Danville. It was expensive and not very warm and inviting. You have to order yourself online which makes sense for really busy restaurants but when you're dead it's awkward. Food was ok but we didn't order a lot as it was our first time to try it and with the prices seemed risky to try too much.

This has been our family's favorite sushi restaurant for years. But now, unfortunately if you're looking for a restaurant with good service, I would look elsewhere. We were disappointed when we sat down and were informed that servers no longer take your order, you have to order from your phone, and pay from your phone. My husband and I don't usually bring our phones to dinner with us, as our purpose is to unplug and enjoy each other's company. Thankfully, I had brought mine this time. It took forever to scroll through the menu, they didn't have any paper menus at all (we asked), and no one was available to ask questions about the menu. The "server" dropped off our food and left without asking how anything was or if we needed anything else. They don't have any options to pay, except for credit card, debit, or Apple Pay and you're required to create an account online before you can actually place your order via phone. The sushi is good, but there are plenty of other sushi places near by that can provide a better overall dining experience. The pendulum has just swung a bit too far.
