Chicken Fajitas... with EXTRA mushrooms! R I C O
Chicken, asada and pastor super quesadillas w/ no sour cream
Taqueria Los Gallos. The sign in the window says "best tacos in town." I don't know if that's true, but we would say they're in the running!
Crispy taco plate with rice and beans. The taco was bigger than it looks in this picture. And so, so tasty!

I've been going to a Taqueria Los Gallos in Newark for over 20 years. I just ran into this one in South Hayward and gave them a go. I asked register dude if they were related, and he said 'no'. I checked the 2 menus on-line and even though the fare is super similar, the looks of each menu board is different with different pricing. So still don't really know what's going on here as the names are identical. Typical taqueria with plastic booth seating, a good amount of employees for fast service, self serve salsa bar, no TVs and loud Mexican country music. If you eat in food will be on plastic plates or a basket for tacos. Carne Asada Tacos ($3.35 ea/4*) A bit pricey but they do load up the meat. I had 2 and was quite stuffed for a lunch hour. Tortillas just warmed through with no fry traits, and it just comes with onions and cilantro. Any salsa you're gonna have to put it on yourself. Their salsas are thinner but a couple of them have pretty good prickling heat. If you went to Mexico, you'd find carne asada tacos to be more like these than not. I'd say they were pretty textbook. Enchilada/Crispy Taco Combo ($15/4*) Very respectable and filling plate. Not as satisfying as my prefered sit-down Mexican place but still quite suffice. The enchilada was decent and nice sized. I chose shredded chicken and there were a good amount that seemed like mostly white meat. The enchilada sauce is really good as it is lighter style that seems like the chili sauce is thinned out with chicken bouillon. The crispy taco I chose beef and it was the same chopped up decent carne asada that I got on my first visit, except this on a perfectly crisp shell with lettuce and cheese. There's crema, guacamole and pico de gallo on this combo plate so you can customize your taco or enchilada to your liking. I guess the biggest difference between this and my sit-down Mexican resto's combo plate is that the sit-down one has better rice and beans and the plate is generally a lot hotter and meltier than this taqueria version. But a plastic plate versus a heavy ceramic plate, there's a big difference there as the heat retention is more substantial on the real plate. Also tried a Horchata once and it was decent. They also have Mexican beers and you can even get fresh squeezed orange juice. I still have to try their menudo and their shrimp cocktail to see if I can be a somewhat regular here. But by some early looks I think they are in the right direction.

I noticed my usual burrito spots were skimping especially when asking and paying for extra meat they still skimp on the meat so I'm in search of a new place. With all the high reviews I was excited to try this place out. I'm very pleased with the portion of the meat in my super burrito from Los Gallos 2 on mission Blvd. But, as one customer had mentioned in the reviews I have to agree it was bland. The option of meat was good but the meat itself had no flavor kind of tasted boiled and texture was ok. I didn't finish it which is rare for me because I can eat lol. I just didn't enjoy it, so only 2 stars for the portion size I'm knocking 3 stars off since food is pricey these days and it just wasn't worth it for me.

Super burrito with shredded chicken AndA super wet burrito with carnitas. We dined in Super friendly service. Chicken was good enough. Not too much guac but overall a fine burritoThe wet super was about 1/3 larger than the dry super. Not packed with meat. It wasn't fatty or too salty. Cheese melted over the sauce makes it look nice So a fine neighborhood taqueria but not special to go out of your way for

We stumbled on this small restaurant after visiting several thrift stores in the area. We are very, very glad to have eaten here!We each ordered a crispy taco plate with rice and beans. Many choices of meat for the tacos, almost too many! But when the food was served, wow! Salsa at many different heat levels, and other toppings available. The food was sooo good! We were both surprised and very pleased. If we lived in the area, we would quickly become regulars.

This is our go-to Mexican takeout! They are fast, the salsa is great, and the food is always delish. We go for enchiladas, burritos (enormous) and the Los Gallos quesadilla.
