as a brunch lover, tanzie's thai brunch met my cravings! the restaurant is fairly small with some residential street parking around it, so be prepared to wait as the service is a bit slow. the inside of the restaurant feels super homey, and the menu is pretty limited. gaeng hung le - this was the star of the meal!! i will say that it is so flavorful that you might get sick of it after a couple bites, so definitely share if you are planning on getting this dish. regardless, the rice reminds me of a sticky rice with fatty, juicy porknam prik ong - the sausage is a little bit like indonesian satay, and i love how they cook the rice so it is super flavorful. sai oua - we got this with pork, and it was the same kind of meat as the nam prik ong dish. the egg is super buttery and soft, but i would definitely go with the skillet dish over this if you have to pick. jiu nung nam prik ha - the meat was tasty, but the sauce was just not it. i knew it'd be heavy on the ginger but even my parents who can handle/enjoy ginger found it to have a weird aftertaste.thai beignet - this is exactly like chinese donut, except so much chewier, kind of like mochi! it pairs well with the condensed milk and is a good appetizer.despite the long wait, i think it's absolutely worth it to check out tanzie's!

I was excited to try Tanzie's. The reviews were positive, and the menu looked intriguing. There was a wait, but it wasn't unreasonable, and the restaurant maintained a steady line of guests. Upon being seated, I was eager to explore the menu, and our server enthusiastically shared details about the dishes. We placed our drink order while reviewing our options. However, as time passed, I began noticing issues around me. Tables weren't being cleared promptly, creating delays in seating and service. While the menu explanations were thorough, they seemed to take precedence over actual service, causing unnecessary lags in order-taking. We waited so long that the host who seated us ultimately stepped in to take our order. They were incredibly gracious, but our main server appeared blithely unaware of the delay or the overall breakdown of our experience.Drinks were another issue. While other tables that arrived after us were served, ours had yet to come out. We had to flag down the person making espresso drinks, and while they quickly expedited our order, the drinks were incorrectly prepared. Mistakes happen, but our server neither acknowledged the error nor made any effort to rectify it. Again, it was the host--who was already juggling seating, waitlist management, and table follow-ups--who provided updates on our food. Throughout the wait, we received no proactive check-ins, which was especially frustrating since we hadn't even ordered small plates. As for the food, it was solid but lacked the meticulous attention to detail that could elevate the experience. My pork belly (Gaeng Hung Le) skillet had inconsistencies--some pieces were all fat, while others had a well-balanced ratio of rendered fat and meat. The dish was rich but could have used a touch more restraint to feel cohesive. My partner's Nam Prik Ong Skillet seemed enjoyable, particularly the sausage, though when I ordered a side of it, I found it overcooked and overly charred in some areas.Overall, the food was good, but the service was severely lacking. If the food had been exceptional, I might have been willing to overlook the service issues, but that wasn't the case. To our main server: less time should be spent making distasteful jokes about a guest's food assessment and more time ensuring quality service. The current approach does the restaurant a disservice.

Had a fantastic experience. Food and service were positive. Decor was very home-y. Seating was comfortable.Ordered the sai oua (chicken sausage, lava eggs, and rice). The sausage was savory but a bit on the drier side. Mixing with the lava eggs and rice solved this concern, but would have been more pleasant if the sausage was more moist. The khanom krok (coconut based pancakes) were amazing. Extremely light and delicate with plenty of flavor. The beignets were just the right amount of sweet and they were extremely flaky (positive!). The jasmine tea hit the spot just right - great paring with the food.Overall, the meal was filling and light at the same time. Would come here again!

What an adorable spot nestled in Berkeley off Dwight Way, with cozy indoor/outdoor seating (fyi, indoor has window seating if snagging a seat for one and there's a little fireplace). I absolutely love it here and wonder what this location was potentially before? For our honeymoon we traveled to Chiang Mai in Thailand and Tanzie's is inspired by cuisine from this region ~ to say this place was one of the most special locations we've ever been in our life is an understatement, so I was happy with the opportunity to brunch here. Our server was so sweet and helped guide us through the menu ~ we ordered the most delicious iced mango matcha and iced strawberry makrut matcha (also available in an orange, so yummy). They were beautiful and gone too fast! Next were the Khanom Krok (coconut cakes) that resemble a sliced egg with toppings including sweet corn, green onion, and yam. The perfect hybrid of sweet and savory. For the mains I tried the Sai Oua ~ pork or chicken Chiang Mai style sausage with lava eggs over choice of brown/white rice and what I believed to be a chili paste. Honestly..heavenly. The eggs were soft scrambled and resembled a rose bud. Glorious all around!Looks like Tanzie's may be closed on specific days, while offering brunch and now dinner on specific days as well, so def check the hours. Excited to come back and try the dinner menu, intrigued on what items are offered. Already can't wait to come back for brunch, I don't mind the metered Berk parking or spending a bit more before noon on something so worthy of delicately devouring :)Khàawp khun khâ

Tanzie's is worth a small detour. I read the two enthusiastic articles about this restaurant that Berkeleyside published in its Nosh section; the more recent article (December 13, 2024) concerned the introduction of dinner service at Tanzie's.We went for lunch instead, guessing that there wouldn't be a wait on a Monday after New Year's during UC Berkeley's spring break. The three of us did get a table without waiting, but we were pretty lucky: the dining room was completely full between noon and 1PM, even on what I imagined would be a slow day. There was only one server in the room (Krissana Tussanaprasit, I believe), and she was mighty busy. Every table needed to wait its turn.I had the sai oua with sausage and a lava egg. The dish is described by Berkeleyside:"Sai oua requires more steps than the already multi-step process for most sausages, marinating the chicken or pork first in a house-made shrimp paste, and then flavoring it with more shrimp paste and lemongrass, birds-eye chiles, makrut lime leaves, basil and cilantro."This sad oua was really good!We had espresso drinks after our main courses (two cappuccinos and one cortado), and they were fine.I'm very happy to have visited Tanzie's and would be pleased to return some day if I had reason to think that the dining room might be less than fully tight. It's possible to get reservations for dinner, which ought to sidestep the problem of potential waiting for a space.

This place is incredible. Everything we ordered was exceptional. The place is really small, which somehow adds to it's charm. The pork belly was SO tasty with the perfect bit of spice, and the lava eggs were perfectly fluffy and flavorful. We shard the Khanom krok, and I can't even pick my favorite one because I loved them all. The waitress was super attentive and offered her suggestions. One suggestion was the special of the day which was garlic dungeness crab with lava egg. It took everything in me not to order another one to go home with. I would return here for the thai beignets and ube coffee alone! I can honestly say this is my new favorite brunch spot and I can't wait to come back! You absolutely MUST try to matcha drinks. Mango was my favorite!

My only complaint is that I wish this place was bigger! There's outside seating as well, but we went on a slightly rainy day so seating was more limited. Me, my partner, and his family ate here on a Sunday morning for brunch and there were already a few groups already ahead of us. We waited a little over 30 mins to be seated, BUT the wait was definitely worth it.Food: Thai Beignets, vegan lava egg, and iced strawberry makrut latte, and fresh OJThai Beignets - delicious Vegan lava egg - best vegan eggs I've ever had. Loved everything about this. Wish they would give more fried garlic spread. Iced Strawberry Makrut Latte - A unique and delicious drink! Fresh OJ - They use cara cara juice which is less sweeter and acidic, but still has a great taste!

Such a great brunch place. I tried Tanzie's for the first time a few weeks ago. I got the jasmine green tea chia bowl and the watermelon juice. My partner got the lava eggs plate with their chicken sausage. I got to snag a few bites of a side order of chicken sausage as well. A good balance of hearty, savory, spicy, fresh, and some sweet. There's a lot of attention to detail and presentation which I love! This place can get busy and packed quick, especially on a weekend. The inside is quite small and cozy.

I came here for brunch and ordered the grilled pork jowl with lava eggs--it was so good! The portion was pretty generous too. My friend and I also shared a plate of beignets, which were perfectly fluffy and light. The staff was super friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. I definitely need to come back to try more from the menu!
